Working on the 304,runs and idles rough, stock ignition and 2 bl carb. I pulled the spark plugs out and they are loaded with fuel. Has good blue spark at each plug when I connect the plug to wire and ground spark plugs. When I screw the air/fuel mixtures in the engine will die which I believe it should. Question is can engine distributor be firing wrong if it is old and possibly worn? The gear feels smooth and it has new rotor and cap.
Thanks Walter

The goal is to have the air/fuel mixture screw screwed in as far as it will go with the highest engine vacuum you can obtain. You will need vacuum gauge to find this out. You should also check engine timing.
