Not sure if this is the right forum, as it pertains to land use, but it is important to Jeeps as it affects our ability to use them in Moab, UT.

Copy and paste from another location:
These businesses all signed a letter to Utah's governer urging him to limit or eliminate access to Utah's back-country to off-highway vehicles. Please do not give them your money, they do not want you in Moab.

Copied from Rocky Mountain Extreme:

In light of some recent events (namely the anti-access letter to Gov. Huntsman in the Trib and DesNews) it has been suggested that it's time to use the weight of the off-road community to bring some pressure onto certain companies. And I couldn’t agree more.
I believe that the first portion of the list should focus on Moab. Why? Because Moab's main industry is tourism, with 4-wheeling being one of the cornerstones of that industry. If a significant number of 4-wheelers begin to boycott certain restaurants, gas stations and shops in Moab, these companies will begin to feel the pressure and will either have to change their tune or downsize and even close.
The beginnings of this list come from companies that signed the mentioned anti-access letter. They are an identifiable problem that must be dealt with. This list should not be populated with companies that people simply dislike, or that seem to be a little bit green. This list should be targeted at companies that are actively part of the problem. If they redeem themselves by showing a marked improvement in their attitudes towards access to public lands, then they will be removed from the list.
In addition, we should not only boycott these companies, we need to write a letter to each of them expressing our discontent and inform them that we will no longer be using their services.

THE FOLLOWING MOAB COMPANIES SIGNED THE ANTI-ACCESS LETTER TO GOVERNOR HUNTSMAN. PLEASE WRITE TO INFORM THEM OF YOUR DISCONTENT AND STOP USING THEIR SERVICES.

Glenn,

Is this a current list ? I remember a similiar mail last year, but then it turned out that several on the list were duped into signing it.

Post the link :)

I seem to remember that as well. I love the idea of a list, but I think it was either revised or needed revising. For example, I called Eddie McStiff's when I was in Moab last and I spoke with the manager. He vehemently denied they were anti-ohv and to the contrary said that supporting that would be like shooting themselves in the foot. OHV users are big business for them. When you are ever in Moab, it's worth it to ask them about it if you stop in. They need to know that it's important they not support these extremist greenie initiatives.

On the other hand I'm fairly certain "Earth Studio" and "Peace Tree Juice Cafe" are still anti-ohv. :D

x100! The survey/petition was nebulously worded, something like "sign here if you want to preserve our trails" and most of them were shocked to find out third hand how their "support" had been spun.

The most effective thing to do anywhere is to walk in and ask for yourself, then decide whether or not to spend your money.

Talk about old stuff. Even the http://www.suwa.org/ does not have it on their website anymore.

I posted on this 31 Mar '05 http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showthread.php?t=7964&highlight=Moab+business

which conatins a copy of the letter and the business that signed it.

I think this is what we call OBE, Overcome By Events.

I would disregard this message traffic.
