I have a '91 YJ. One night my low beams were working and the next they weren't. I didn't do anything different, just street driving. I replaced the switch with no change. I checked the grounds under the hood and the dash and all of the wiring harness'. The lights themselves are fine. I don't have a clue what could have happened.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

By switch, are you talking about the dash switch?
Have you thought about the selector switch in the steering column?

Under the hood there is a relay/fuse block...it's all black plastic, pop the top off and check to see if their is a headlight relay and/or large fuse. Try changing those.

I've replaced both of these switches with no effect.

I will check this right now!

My wifes car had similar problem, turned out to be the hazard flasher switch was dirty. try cycling it several times. that may clean the contacts.

Well, it's not the hazard switch.

Head lights are only six months old. I doubt the low beams burned out at the same time! Stranger things have happened to me, though!

I had my headlight switch go out on mine...real pain in the butt when you're driving along at night and they turn off
Did you find the fuse/relay? nI haven't looked at the factory servic e manual for awhile but that's still my guess.

I'm going to have to wait till tomorrow to check the relays. Would there be a relay for only the low beams?

I've seen low blinker fluid cause this very problem. Basically your blinkers leech all the fluid from the headlight reservoir until it goes dry and causes the low beams to stop working. You probably have a leak in the blinker fluid reservoir. :D

No, I just topped off the blinker fluid last Thursday. I lost the cap and it evaporates pretty quickly. I buy the gallons of fluid at Arkies Auto Parts.

My high beams work great. Already replaced the main switch and the dash switch.

Yes, the low & high beams are two seperate circuits. The low beams, if I remember right, should be a large 30A fuse. Should look like this:

The dimmer switch is different from the headlight switch.

The dimmer switch is different from the headlight switch.
The dimmer switch is also the turn signal lever. It activates a switch that mounts on the steering column. I guess it could be the problem, but I really hope not! I replaced it about a year ago!

Where is the last place that you cheked where the low beam circuit still had power?

By dimmer, I think he might have been talking about the dash lights dimmer.
If memory serves me, though, the dimmer on the YJ is integrated into the headlight/parking light switch.
You've thrown enough money at the rig by now.
Time to start tracing the wires...
If power when low beams are on, then you move to the next item:
Start at the main switch
Relay
Hi/Low selector/turn signal cam
Front end electrical harness
Headlight sockets back side
Headlight sockets front side
Bulbs
Those are the areas to check.
I'm afraid that you're going to find a broken wire in there somewhere.
