I'd love to! But I haven't started Xmas shopping yet and Sunday will probably be the only day I have free.

Have fun and Happy Holidays!

Dunno about the tow hooks, but when it comes to hard to find bolts, the best
place I've found in town is Lenhart's ACE Hardware in Mesa on 1st Av. They
have a well stocked bolt room and can probably find you anything. When I broke
a bolt head while installing my nerf bars, they had the exact 3/8 inch self
tapper I needed. They also had all the pulIeys and lag bolts - graded for
capacity - I used to build a hard top hoist, stuff you won't find at Builder's
Square.

They aren't in the best side of town though. One time I went there and when
leaving discovered all traffic was stopped on 1st Av because of a gang fight
in the middle of the street.

Love to, but already have plans. Schedule looks booked up until after
New Years.

BTW-found a BEAUTIFUL dent in the 'frame' just behind the passenger-side
control arm after the Sunday trip Dec 6. One of the rocks I had no
choice except to slide off put a 6"x3" dent in the frame. About 1/4"
deep, and appears to be the only real damage. Hmmm...sounds like good
incentive for that lift, doesn't it??

I'm still getting over a bad case of Jeep Envy from this past weekend, but I'm
up for another run!

I'd like to, but probably can't. My son and I will be working on his car
(he's 15 and wants it ready for driver's licence time...uh oh).

I second that. It's the best hardware store around. BTW Dan, I had the
exact same problem w/ a self tapper on my body guards. No one had one,
but Lenhardt's did. Probably wasted $5 in gas and 1 hour of looking to
buy a $.50 bolt. Should have gone straight there.

You'all go ahead and make some plans. I've got Christmas shopping to do or I'm
in real trouble. If I can get everything done Saturday I may be able to come.

I found the tow hooks by using an online salvage yard request thingy. Someone
in the tx list told me they bend them on thier tahoe all the time, at 24$ a
pop (from the dealer). I found them at 10bucks ea, + shipping. I am not sure
of the name of the place, but the # is 1 800 274 8090. cant beat that,
especially if i start bending them!

Subject: NP231 upgrades

Hello group....

I was looking at JP mag online HTTP://www.d-p-g.com/jp/currentissue/html/cover.html (or you can buy the issue on the news stand) they have a nice line up of power pick me ups for all Jeeps, but the one that really caught my eye was the NP231 transfer case hopups. They have heavy duty 4 low drive chains, 4:1 low range gear sets, and the works. (when you get to the page about the NP231 make sure you go to the bottom of the page and hit next.. more info on next page.)

The HD chain is from a Dodge full size P/U. a full 4"wide and will handle more power and I would think bigger tires too. They show a 4:1 gear set, with 6 gears instead of the stock 3 gear set.. (stock gears are 2.72:1) and will handle up to 1200 Ft LB of torque....and the list goes on...

For those of you who don't know me, I found you through Len (SJ full size P/U) and George (SJ full size Wagoneer) I am a welder by trade, Work web site: WWW.Wellscargo.com . If you need something welded, let me know.. I can take it to work, when I get down there, and weld it for ya.

Troy Franks
88XJ Cherokee (Tonka) Procomp lift,31X10.5 tires.
69 SJ Wagoneer (papa Tonka) 4 inch lift, 31X10.5 tires.
Ogden Utah for 3 more months, then Pheonix.....YES
PS.... buy the way if anyone needs anything from 6 States Dist. (custom drive shaft place.) and can wait till March to get it.. I can save you on shipping when I move. 6 States is 1/4 mile from Work, and I can swing in and pick up any part you need me to. Ask Len or George who I am.. they know me from the other Jeep list they belong to.

I have heard of just using the NP231D from a dodge 1/2 ton instead of the
stock np231 found in the cherokee/wrangler/GC. There are some modifcations
that will have to be made for fitting it in the Wrangler, but the only thing
needed for the cherokee/GC is a new rear driveshaft. The np231D has wider
chain gear and teeth, and is supposed to be way stronger.
Talk to a competent shop about this upgrade.
