I'm thinking about going on this one. Questions is, does it get too cold if the Jeep is stripped all the way down? Hate to put it all back on again.

Hey guys, this run sounds like fun. I'm going to be in town for a few days and wondered if ya'll mind if I tag along. Been a long time since I've been on an AZVJC trip. I have a ride with my step-son in his 93 Bronco on 35's if you don't mind some non-Jeep company. I'd rather bring a Jeep but my YJ is 2,000 miles away. :) Can I come and play, too?

If its a full size it aint gonna fit for crap some of the trails are as narrow as a jeep and off to the left is about a 200 ft drop...Just ran it today in the daylight not nuts enough for a night run on this one...

I have never ran the Sunflower trail, still new to the whole 4 wheeling scene.
What would you say are the minimum requirements to run that?
I have 34" SS with about a 5" lift on a Trooper, open diffs. I have a set of KClites on the front, so I have some lighting. I have been told I would be fine on this trail?
If so, I would like to tag along.

Yeah the Bronco is definitely full-size. I've never been wheeling with anything bigger than a Jeep. In all my years of wheeling in AZ, I never made it to Sunflower Mine trail so I'll have to take your advice guys. Is a full-size too wide?
Thanks,
Bill

You should be fine as long as the driver is somewhat confident.

We ran it the other day with a stock Cherokee and a Taco rear locked in our group.
The Tacoma was slow going, and was dragging his belly and banging skid plates all the way through the tougher sections. The Cherokee with open diffs had some troubles but he was pretty new to wheeling and did better as the day went on. Both made it but it was slow going. No straps though except when Jason tried his best to get through the rut at the top in a discovery, he put on quite a show! I think he may need new seat covers next ride ;)

I ran the trail not that long ago and don't remember anything too tight... took a stock Tahoe on the run and it did fine.

We've taken stock Jeeps over the trail (I did it with 31's and 2" blocks), with a bit of scraping here and there. With that lift and those tires you should be OK, even with open diffs.
The lighting on the KCLites helps you see the trail, but I think Joe was talking about rock lights. They light the ground under your vehicle, to help spotters get you over the obstacles. Not required, just nice to have.

Gotcha!
What kind of lights do you use for the "rock Lights"? brand? wattage and size? where to get?

I'd suggest you go over to WalMart and get the little 2" lights for $14.95. They work great, and somewhere on this board I think there is a post on how to do the install. I have a set, but haven't had time (or need) to install 'em.
Put one on each side of the underside of your rig, up away from the where the rocks can get 'em.

Harbor Freight often has a set of 55w halogens for sale for $19. I'm in AZ today and can't find my pics but I've had one of these under my YJ for years now. I made a little rock guard for it out of dry wall screen from Home Depot (a couple of bucks) and it has yet to crack or get seriously damaged, despite being in a vulnerable spot for thrown up rocks.
Be sure to use a relay. Here's a wiring diagram (http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1087&d=1111553160)

I'm in for my first night run! I've been on this run twice now and besides the typical larger, varying rock in the river bed areas it is pretty straight forward. Last time we had this gentleman who picked up a brand new Eagle edition and drove it straight to the trail.
A little pin striping and a few bumps later, the Jeep was good to go. :D

Great folks, they came in and added a 3" lift 33" tires, air compressor and ps rock rails!!!! I think I saw it there last week getting the ps rock rails installed!

Can't attend after all. Some rutabaga brained nitwit decided to toss a rock at the windshield while it was parked at work yesterday. The glass people just finished up the replacement, and we are told not to go tonight - windshield sealant needs time to dry, 6pm is too soon.
Crap.

Awesome run guys! I thought it would be a breeze since everyone said it would be easy. I was worried it wouldn't be much fun. Boy was I wrong. There were lots of challenging parts to this trails, especially running a full size Bronco. 35's made it easy to go over stuff but we had to thread the needle a few times. We couldn't have done it damage-free without the help of an awesome spotter...whose name escapes me right now, dang it. Chris, our driver, is still asleep. I'll ask him when he wakes up. Thanks mystery man!
Whoever started this run picked an excellent night for it. The moon was almost full and it wasn't too cold or hot. Well, the ride home was cold but not bad.
The Isuzu Trooper was neat and of course the Jeeps were cool. I was wishing the whole time I could have brought my own Jeep along. Although the fullsize Bronco made it, that trail is definately more Jeep-friendly. And you guys were right about the drop-offs. Scary!

Thanks to the guys we had out last nite; I learned a few things from them. My dad had a blast too.
See ya on the next run.
