Hey,

We got to experience a rare site this weekend! Here are the pictures of two Big Horn sheep that we saw on the rim in the entrance to box canyon:

I saw some sort of mountain goat last week as well, it while sitting in a traffic jam at hoover dam. Although from what I understand, not that un common up there.
Sorry about the angle.

That, too, would be a Desert Bighorn sheep, a ewe. I have seen them there a few times. Also saw some last Jan off of Black Mesa, just east of Sunset Point rest area. Also saw a couple in the Bighorn mountains, about 5 years ago.(Next mtn range west of the White Tanks)

That would be cool to see in FJ. I have not seen much wildlife there at all, other than snakes.

Oh...OK. Still kind of unusual, no?
Snakes are our friends!! I use my Jeep to go out and look for them! :)

Looks like one of them had a collar. Have you called fish & game to see if they have had a recent transplant there?

I noticed the collar, but have not made any calls to G&F. I figured that it would be a perfect place for them to live naturaly as the high cliff walls would offer protection.

You may be right though, they could be relocated.

I have seen them there several times. They dont seem to be bothered by us in the bottom of the canyon. There is some good sized oned. The only time i see them is late evening coming out of Box Canyon.

Game & Fish transplanted quite a few (17???) into the Picketpost Mountain area 3-4 years ago. The sheep have been tracked yearly and have increased in numbers. I think it's GREAT they're now seen in/near Box Canyon. This means "HUMANS" and "MOTORIZED VEHICLES" DO NOT bother them. It's obvious they don't care much about people either. From the pictures you all have taken in the past couple of weeks they don't even look at you. I also have pictures of them sleeping under the huge mining trucks near Kearny and are standing and feeding along the edge of the highway.

These pictures will help considerably when G&F continue to close Martinez Canyon or any/all trails in the FJ area due to "big horn sheep corridors" etc. Have a FJ Route evaluation meeting tomorrow. G&F will be there so I'll ask about "tracking" and put facts into the records.

Having grown up in Las Vegas, I went to Lake Mead quite often and the Bighorn sheep will practically eat from your hand.

Right now the Hoover Dam by-pass is under construction and if the presents of people, trucks, earthmovers, cranes, and dynamite don't deter them, what will?
