To all that didn't see Mike's post...
Mike Baney has posted a run for this Saturday to cut up and remove the aformentioned burnt Toyota carcass. The owner of the Toyota will be there to assist.
To all that like cutting stuff up, come out to the fun.

Hey Guys,
I have been a memebr of AZJC for a couple months now, but just now signed up for the email from the club, so you will have to forgive me for being a little bit behind. (also, this is knid of a test email so we'll see if it works as planned)
I am a member on JU (JARockCrawler) and have been reading about the burnt toyota on the Martinez trail. From what I hear the Owner has been found, correct? I would like to be of assistance in anyway possible, although not free this weekend, when a group does go out there to extract the truck I would love to come and lend a hand, or a winch .

Subject: [TR] Coke Ovens - Saturday, March 9, 2002 - Reminder
Hello All,
Mike Acuna is leading a Coke Ovens trail run on Saturday, March 9, 2002.
When: Saturday March 9, 2002
Where: Meet at the Texaco just past Florence Junction at 9:00am
Rating: 2.5+
Length: 4-6 hours
CB Channel: 4
We've always wanted to check out the Coke Ovens, but haven't yet.
We've been through Box Canyon up to Martinez Cabin and are pretty
sure we can find it. We have a GPS and a guide book too. If someone
signs up who wants to lead that would be cool too. We would like
to run Box Canyon to Coke Ovens.....then if there is still time
we would like to run Battleaxe out to AZ177.
The Coke Ovens Trail is an all day trip. It covers a lot of different countryside, traveling over and around the rolling hills and traverse some rocks and ledges in the road.
Years ago the Coke Ovens were built to support some of the smelters at the nearby mines. It's a fairly common misconception that they made coke, which is made from coal. However, they were built to make charcoal from the then more plentiful mesquite of the Gila Valley.
Over the years they have been closed to the public numerous times and several have been used as "housing" for the hermits of the hills. At one point (so the story goes) an owner attempted to convert them into a type of tourist resort - and started to make rooms out of them. You can still see the lofts he installed in some of them. This project was never finished.
At this time we are able to see and explore these amazing creations. They are located on the side of a hill along the Gila River and are quite spectacular.
Across the Gila is the old town site of Chochran. If the water is low, there is a river crossing to the west of Chochran that can be taken for an exit out to the Florence-Kelvin Highway
This trail is definitely a favorite for all levels of 4-wheelers. Stock vehicles shouldn't have any problems although clearance is highly recommended. There are several areas of "rock stair steps" that will be a challenge to the novice or stock driver.
Enjoy and remember to TREAD Lightly!

It would seem logical that if it fits under my hard top, it would most likely fit a soft top. I know of only one model (that I am aware of).

Dave,
If you are referring to me, the answer is no. I'm not that cheap. I agree with what Joe is saying to some degree and will eventually have a replacement cage in my Jeep. I chose to install the OR Fab set up because it does offer better protection than the stock unit, and I felt that for what I could get an OR Fab set up for it would provide some additional security until the full cage is done. I did'nt think that waiting on a full cage in lieu of getting some additional protection was the least bit logical.
Yes, I am going to spend more money in the long run but it's a damn Jeep, isn't that to be expected?

I have a 78 Cherokee with a 360 4 barrel Holly on adapter plate to 2 barrel manifold with a TH400 transmission. When I stomp on the gas in the city it kicks down as it should. At highway speed it still passes well when I hit the gas due to the 4 barrel but the transmission doesn't kick down. I believe the vacuum lines to my heater controls are not connected. Is this my likely cause or should I be looking elsewhere?

Thats exactly why I got the ORF setup. I plan on having John at Hunter do something different in the future when I finally install the harnesses to go along with my Mastercraft Seats. This will require some mods to the cage.
Until then I like the ORF.

No bother, turns out to be a bad master cylinder. I've ordered the parts, about 74 bucks or so. Should be a quick job and clutch bleed I'll be doing as soon as I get the parts. Turns out, the bushings that are the axis of the clutch pedal go bad and allow to much play in the pedal, which in turn can lead to the clutch cylinder going bad....I'll explain it later! Might go Mountain biking next day off, I'll let you know.

I am selling my 88 XJ. It has the 4.0, AW4 auto, NP 231 tcase, and is in good shape. It has 177k on it. It has a few exterior dings and does not have a perfect body, but it runs awesome! I routinely get about 21 mpg between Flag and Phoenix. The interior is all in excellent condition. Would make a good project for a trail machine or a great commuter. Hey Guys,
I have been a memebr of AZJC for a couple months now, but just now signed up for the email from the club, so you will have to forgive me for being a little bit behind.

Dave,
If you are referring to me, the answer is no.

Subject: Burned toyota in martinez / Thank you
Hi i am Chris Vesleys wife Stacy and I just want to let everyone
whom is willing to help us know that we really appreciate the offers
for help. chris has been devistated since his "BABY" burnt to the
ground we were all there to watch the horrific event. we are still
trying to cope but with all your help it really shows that people
who love wheelin' just as much as we do are willing to come together
when someone is in need of help ......we love all the trails and
respect them. (JUST A FREAK THING HAPPENDED ) we are sorry for any
inconvience to anyone. and again i thank everyone from the bottom of
my heart for all your willingness to help...God bless and may all be
safe out on the trails......
sincerely
Stacy Vesley :)

Subject: Re: Clutch problem 93yj
No bother, turns out to be a bad master cylinder. I've ordered the parts, about 74 bucks or so. Should be a quick job and clutch bleed I'll be doing as soon as I get the parts. Turns out, the bushings that are the axis of the clutch pedal go bad and allow to much play in the pedal, which in turn can lead to the clutch cylinder going bad....I'll explain it later! Might go Mountain biking next day off, I'll let you know.

>I'm having to bleed my clutch about once a month now, but just in the past couple days the pedal has gone flippity-floppy in the first 3 inches of pushing down on it. I bled my clutch again this morning and it didn't help. I did notice fluid though where the pedel peice comes through the firewall...on the hood side?!

Email me for pics and more info: mcgaskins@email.com or call me. Thanks!
