Hey Guys,
I have been a memebr of AZJC for a couple months now, but just now signed up for the email from the club, so you will have to forgive me for being a little bit behind. (also, this is knid of a test email so we'll see if it works as planned)
I am a member on JU (JARockCrawler) and have been reading about the burnt toyota on the Martinez trail. From what I hear the Owner has been found, correct? I would like to be of assistance in anyway possible, although not free this weekend, when a group does go out there to extract the truck I would love to come and lend a hand, or a winch .

Les,
It sounds like your rotors are warped, or possibly the drums are out of round. I do not believe that the problem has anything to do with the work you have done...well I guess one way it could have come from the work you did is if the rear brakes were adjusted to tight, so as you drove the drums heated up, and when you stopped they "bent" slightly. Or, when you tossed on the parking brake they were bent out and held there as the drum cooled, so it now is a permanent oval.
Hope this helps,
JT

going to go out there Friday, flatfenderman?, if you do, how close
can we get a trailer? Anyone with pickups? Chirs said there is no

Sadly I dont have a winch or a trailer just 4x4 with open axels. The only
good thing Is I have a Full Size Grand Wagoneer SJ which is good for towing.
I can get a trailer hitch if we want to use that but otherwise I have a very
large 45# Pry Bar which is good for things and I High lift.

Just like the other guy when i pushed on it (or went over a bump) the lights would go on or off. Mine was fixed while still under wrnty. but only took them a half hour or so.

Subject: Re: heim joint questions
Heims seem to get a little sloppy quicker than rod ends. Probably because
the joint is openly exposed to the elements where the rod ends are usually
booted to protect them. Wearing of heims seems to be more pronounced in
steering applications because it doesn't take much slop to begin to notice it
in your steering. I ran a 3/4" heimed drag link for about 2 years. I began
to notice a little sloppiness in it towards the end, but it wasn't too
unpleasant. I think I am talking about a situation where you will get 3-5
years of good life from a heim while you might get 5-10 years from rod ends.
Not really a big deal. Just thought I would mention it.
I would go with the $30 heims if given the choice. They are usually stronger
and made from better materials so they will last longer. Definately stay
away from the ones with Teflon lining. NOT a good idea.

Nope, it's the same on TJ's. I don't understand what's the big deal about
"custom" extensions. You can make them out of anything, even a few washers
for fine adjustments. It's really pretty easy.

Hope this helps,
JT

Sadly I dont have a winch or a trailer just 4x4 with open axels. The only
good thing Is I have a Full Size Grand Wagoneer SJ which is good for towing.
I can get a trailer hitch if we want to use that but otherwise I have a very
large 45# Pry Bar which is good for things and I High lift.

As for Bill, a one eye missing, half blind in the other Carp could have seen
that as bait.

Even with a trailer I wouldn't recommend anything less than a 3/4 4x4
(preferably a diesel) to pull the hulk out of there. There's some steep
hills between M. Canyon and pavement.

Cheers,
