Turning west off Alma School onto Ocotillo about 5:15 pm today. I was in my other car. Here's your wave. After not seeing a VJC sticker on the street for months, have seen two this week.

Mike- do we still need to notify the sheriff's dept and BLM since we
have found the owner? I would think that if the owner gives us
permission to help him remove it that we should be OK.
Am I seriously mistaken?

We swapped the drum brakes off my old Dana 35 on to my new Dana 44
last Sunday. I thought we installed and bled them correctly but now I
am not so sure. My major concern at this point is that my brakes feel
a little funny now. They seem to stop fine however when I apply the
brake I can feel them pulsating through the pedal. The Jeep also
seems to rock a little laterally when stopping. It is so noticeable
that Dave at 4 wheeler supply thought I had abs brakes when he drove
it. He claimed that it was nothing they could have done when working
on my Jeep. What could be the cause of this and what do I need to do
to correct the problem?

Les,
Since Chris and I bled your brakes... I guarantee you that this is not the
problem. You could be more focused on your brakes now that you've had all
this work done or it could be something in the rear axle. TJ brakes are self
adjusting... give the rear ones a week or so and then see how they feel...
you did say that they were stopping normally no?
As far as the pulsing... your rotors are probably warped. Remove your
rotors and take them down to Pep Boys and have them turned. Replace your
front brake pads while you are at it. I'll bet this cures your problem.

I agree with Joe on this. That's why I was asking for clarification on
"idle vibes". If your vibes are really bad and you have poly motor
mounts, you can easily build a set of 1" motor mount spacers like I did
for Chris B's TJ. It cured his idle vibes.

Ruben,
I don't know about 2000 TJ's but I have a 99 and the instrument cluster in
these have a poor connection setup in the rear and from what I have read on
the net, it is a common TJ problem. What happens is that the flat bladed pin
connectors that plug into the back of your cluster have a weak connection
and when this happens your gauges go nuts. The solution is to remove the
instrument cluster and tweak the blades about 5-10 degrees, with a narrow
pair of needle nose pliers, so that they have a firm connection and the slop
is taken out of the connection. This takes about ten minutes and is one
thing you can eliminate. I hope this solves the problem.

Do you have a polyurethane transmission mount or motor mounts? If you do,
then they will be the source of your vibration at idle and it is indeed a
fact of life. The lift shouldn't affect idle performance (assuming you are

If it has vibes while at idle, it sounds like a torn tranny mount. May want

Les,
Since Chris and I bled your brakes...

Les,
I agree with Joe on this.
