You can always give Rick Beer a call at the Arrowhead Discount Tire Store. I am pretty sure he has hooked others up with some used tires.

Doesn't the TJ FSM also include a maintenance schedule for greasing the
muffler bearings and changing the air in the tires? I think these
preventive maintenance procedures would most definitely keep your TJ as
fresh as a daisy even in the middle of the summer monsoon season.

Subject: [TR] Tip Top Mine Loop - Saturday, March 9, 2002
Hello All,
Alan Parker is leading a Tip Top Mine Loop trail run on Saturday, March 9, 2002.
When: 9:00AM (hit the trail at 9:30)
Where: I-17 and Table Mesa Road North East Corner (dirt parking lot)
Rating: 2.5+
Length: 4 to 6 hours
CB Channel: 7
From the meeting place at I-17 and Table Mesa Road, well head across I-17, then north parallel to I-17 until we reach the Agua Fria River just east of Gillette. There is a network of roads well need to work through. Well stick to the map to avoid wasting time on dead-end roads.
The trail starts out at the ghost town of Gillette just south of Black Canyon City. Well head west on a 4WD-designated trail that goes around the north side of Williams Mesa. After about 5.5 miles, well connect with a more established road that follows Boulder Creek and then Cottonwood Creek to the Tip Top Mine. The total route mileage to this point is about 8 miles. Depending on time, well explore Tip Top Mine, the Seventy-six Mine and a couple of other near by 4WD trails.
The planned route out of the area for this trip is to follow the more established road that follows Cottonwood Creek and then Boulder Creek, continuing on by the west side of Williams Mesa to the Agua Fria River. The road crosses the Auga Fria and leads to W. Table Mesa Road.
The trail conditions and rating are unknown.
The maximum number of vehicles for this exploratory trip is 5.
I have maps of the route if you are interested in checking them out.

Subject: Re: Many questions about mods
Dana 44 Swap
------------
Pros:
- stronger ring and pinion gears
- stronger axle shafts (due to no c-clips and larger diameter)
- can replace axle shafts without opening diff (due to no c-clips)
- more gearing choices (can go above 4.88)
- slight increase in lift (due to larger axle tube diameter)
- bigger/stronger bearings
- bigger brakes (better stopping power needed for larger tires)
- stronger housing
NOTE: The last four items would be true if you used a Dana 44 from
some other vehicle. I *think* they are not true if you use
an actual TJ Dana 44. But I could be wrong about this.
Cons:
- reduced ground clearance under diff
- possibly greater cost (vs. the Super 35 mod)

--- Driving a CJ I am not to familiar with the TJ But
I believe if the vehicle is 85 or older you need to
replace the tire air something about the pollutants
making the air thicker therefor improving viscosity,
as for the muffler bearings I eliminated having to
grease mine by simply removing the muffler, this can
be accomplished by finding the right sized rock and
repetedly going over it untill it comes off. Just my
.02 cents. anyone want to incorporate. Jim ( crusher )

Joey,
You are almost correct... the 1955 and earlier ZJs came with the greasable
coil spring shackles, but the later model ZJs (1956 and up) came with a
modified quad-link semi-floating axle hanger which was non-greasable. You
could order the greasable hanger for an additional $47.

I am getting ready to purchase yet another steering stabilizer for my 98TJ (3" Tera, 33x12.5 gymtr). This is my 3rd. Is it pretty common to blow these shocks? The last one was procomp es3000. Is there a sturdier brand?

Just so Gary gets the real picture.....the "sand hills" in the White Tank
Mountains is actually a large pile of gravel (or maybe it is sand and
gravel). Regardless of what it is made from, if one is accustomed to
running a vehicle on sand dunes, one will be extremely disappointed in this
"pile".

I am getting ready to purchase yet another steering stabilizer for my 98TJ (3" Tera, 33x12.5 gymtr). This is my 3rd. Is it pretty common to blow these shocks? The last one was procomp es3000. Is there a sturdier brand?

Mountains is actually a large pile of gravel (or maybe it is sand and
gravel). Regardless of what it is made from, if one is accustomed to
running a vehicle on sand dunes, one will be extremely disappointed in this
"pile".
