Subject: Organized VS Un-organized
I would like to relay some statistics. Last night I sent a simple post to the AZVJC (Un-Organized) and to the Arizona Dust Devils (organized) forums requesting input on axles for the front Dana 30 on my CJ. Thru 2 pm today I have received ONE reply from the 1000+ AZVJC members and it was a smartass/comedic comment telling me to buy a Dana 60. From the Arizona Dust Devils 27 members I have received 4 responses with suggestions, personal experiences or questions, but no smart ***/comedic remarks. I got the same type of statistical response when I have asked other questions. Is the problem that I have a CJ and of the 1000 or so members of THE AZVJC there are very few CJ's . Or are my questions to stupid to warrant an intelligent response. This may be just an anomaly, but I am starting to get a complex. Just curios if anyone else experiences this kind of thing. Based on these statistics I would conclude that organized is better than un-organized.

Okay people I need to understand this. I have a 99 tj with a dana 35
rear and 30 front. How do I find out if this is a "c" or not? From
what I understand the "c" stands for custom not c-clip? How do I
know if I have a c-clip? I have read posts where people have said
the have a spare passenger side axle, I assume that this is because
the diff is off center and the axles are differn't in length. I am
asking all of this because from what I understand the 35 is
notoriously weak and I cannot at this time afford the super kit but
would like to have a spare for the trail. Also when I go to checker
to get u-joints they don't have a listing for the 99 tj???? How many
U-joints are there and are they all the same (front vs. back). Can I
use U-joints listed for a 98?
Well Thanks for the info in advance.

Agreed. A few days ago I posted a question regarding the interchangeability of XJ and TJ rear axle shafts. I received no response whatsoever. When I first joined the club, I asked several questions regarding my old CJ and people always responded with good ideas or suggestions.
Now, this club / mailing list has become full of people sitting at work bored just wanting something to whine about.

Mike,
I have found in the past that I sometimes have to post a
question a couple of times as they sometimes get lost in the swirl of
things. Especially in the last couple of days with the big "O" word
being batted around like a Byung Young Kim fastball in Yankee

You have the 'C' clipped D35 in the rear. It's the only one that's
available in TJ's (D35 that is).. The D44 is not 'C' clipped. I believe
that some of the earlier YJ's that had D35's had the non 'C' clipped
version.
The drive shaft U-joints are 1310's. You should be able to get them
almost anywhere. Try Napa or even maybe Checker. I know that Napa
carries them. They are the same front and rear, except for the CV joint
on the front driveshaft. I may, though, be composed of two 1310's plus
the centering ball, etc. I'm not 100% sure on that one. I'm sure someone
will correct me if that's wrong information.
One of the biggest things that you can do to help you not break the rear
axle is to be easy on the gas and, expecially, don't bounce the rear
tires. Tire size comes into play also. The bigger the tires, usually,
the easier it is to break the axle.
Cheers,

What rear axle do you have? The XJ's (that I know of, and have

is a little older, and the 27 is current.

I just wanted to publicly thank Rob Williams for having the patience
and tenacity to take this totally unprepared mom and her son to do
Broken Arrow a few weeks ago. And without too many eye rolls, at
least that I caught. He explained things...gave his opinion...tons
of tips...(he's always thinking of ways to do things easier, it
seems)...and gave me the room to do the trail. I know Broken Arrow
isn't difficult...but when you've never done anything like Devil's
Staircase and you're in your Jeep looking down at it, knowing it's
your turn next...well that's the sort of thing that used to make me
hyperventilate. I started that way...but as we inched down the
rocks...I relaxed a bit...and by the time we were to the bottom, I
had this incredible feeling that I'd never experienced before. I
wasn't afraid anymore...and that had a lot to do with it. That I had
sought someone out...done this on my own...with my boy at my
side...that was enough. But I also got just a hint of what it is you
all love so much about going out every weekend. And if there's more
of that to come...you'd better bet we'll be there. Thanks for
providing a forum in which I've been able to learn a bit from the
posts, and thanks to everyone that's offered to help me in any way.
I look forward to meeting many of you!

Subject: windshield hinges - club thoughts
When I purchased my '89 wrangler it came with chrome winshield hinges and many other goodies that needed to be added. I'm having a problem removing some of the bolts on the old hinges. Some were a snap to get out, but others are a PITA. I've soaked all of them with penatrating oil and have used a punch (3/8" dive that turns when hit with a BFH). A few of the bolts turn but won't come out. Others won't even budge. I'm getting close to taking the jeep to a 4x4 shop to see if they can work some magic. Drilling them out seems risky. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Side Note: I've been a lurker for the past six months or so. As I get more experience with all aspects of jeeping I feel I will be able to post informed replys to others questions. To me, this is a great club with many unique people who have a lot to share and are sometimes very opinionated. People are correct when they say, "you get out of it what you put in to it". I believe this club is strong due to its original ideas and founding principles. Why try to be like everybody else?

I ended up drilling the torx hinge screws on my CJ. After breaking two

a bit large enough to drill the head off of the screw, then used vice
grips to back the rest of the screw out after the hinge was off.
Hope this helps.

A few of the bolts turn but won't come out. Others won't even budge. I'm getting close to taking the jeep to a 4x4 shop to see if they can work some magic. Drilling them out seems risky. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Blake,
No... they will not work on a TJ D35C axle. The cheapest way for you to get
spare axles is to get them from someone who is upgrading to a Super35 or
other aftermarket axles. Ask around; I'm sure you'll find some.

Cheers,
Fred

What rear axle do you have? The XJ's (that I know of, and have

is a little older, and the 27 is current.

I just wanted to publicly thank Rob Williams for having the patience

of tips...(he's always thinking of ways to do things easier, it
seems)...and gave me the room to do the trail.

I look forward to meeting many of you!

Subject: Flo Jx this weekend? ARCA demo???
Sorry that this isn't about some engaging topic, like "should we
all just argue", or "Who hates who the most?" or some such bull****...
Anyway, I heard a rumor that there might be some sort of ARCA-
type demo on Lower Woodpecker on Sunday. Is this true, or close to
the truth? Is there going to be anything like this going on anywhere
near Flo Jx? Also, if anyone wants to go run some 4.0 ot 4.5 trails
out there, please let me know.
And yes, this was *supposed* to be taken in fun... :)

If you have the rear axle shafts from an 80's or so XJ D35 c-clip, will
those shafts work in a D35 on a TJ?
I am looking to get some rear shafts from an XJ in the junkyard for some
spares.
thanks for any help on this

After breaking two
torx sockets on them, I decided that drilling was the way to go. I used
a bit large enough to drill the head off of the screw, then used vice
grips to back the rest of the screw out after the hinge was off.
Hope this helps.

Blake,
No... they will not work on a TJ D35C axle. The cheapest way for you to get
spare axles is to get them from someone who is upgrading to a Super35 or
other aftermarket axles. Ask around; I'm sure you'll find some.
Kind Regards,
Joe West

A good friend of mine just installed an in-dash MP3 player with a
built-in 20 gig hard drive. It pulls out and you can connect it to your
computer via ethernet or USB to transfer the music. If you like, I can
check on the brand and where he got it and for how much.
