Picked up the protofab rear bumper and installed it last night. I love this thing. Anyways... Need to relocated the license plate now. Anyone know if there's a law stating that it need to be lit at night?

Thanks

I've been running without a plate light for years, but then I'm not out at night that much. Maybe I should do something about that. :)

You can purchase them from most any autozone/checker/pepboys, etc. for just a few bucks... A couple screws a couple wires and voila, you're done.

As was said, if you're not going to drive it at night, it's probably not a biggie, but it's such a cheap and easy thing to do to be able to be in compliance.

Yes, you legally need a light. Fortunately for us Arizona is pretty lenient on many of the laws...but yes, legally you do.

The only problem that running without a license plate light is that it gives a police officer a reason to pull you over.

summit magazine used to sell bolts that directed light onto the plate. they were about $20. A lot of my friends used to run them in PA where you would get pulled over for no plate light, especially if you deleted it with a mod.

here is one, under $10 and cake to install. not pretty but it'll keep you legal. http://www.bellrpg.net/soderbloom/RV/grouppart.asp?MAJ=37&PRI=050&SEC=656&GRP=%208909

I have them, but in spite of them being about the size of a pencil eraser I still managed to knock one off down in FJ on one of the trails...

I was immediately thinking the light bolts as well. Doesn't Autozone and the like sell them (in their dress up/ricer sections)

I've never seen the lite bolts @ auto zone or checker. I got mine at the cycle shop on cave creek, north of cactus.

Had it happen. No ticket. Just ran my info to fish for possibles. I wasnt too upset as i knew lacking one could cause that.

Not sure about BDS?

The place I went to is actually about a block north of Sweetwater, can't recall the name. Cycle Gear? It's been there for years, I remember going there back in high school for stuff for my atc.

I was pulled over the other night at FrankloydWright and Via Linda (I think that was the street) anyways, in scottsdale.

I was at a stop light and the police car was stopped behind me. when the light turned green he turned on his red/blue lights.

He was very nice by the way. He said he pulled me over for a couple of reasons...

- my license plate wasn't illuminated

- my tires stuck out too far from the fenders and I needed flares or mud flaps. ( I have a tj with psc corners and no flares).

I told him I was sorry and I'd get the license plate light situation taken care of (ordered a couple of those lite n boltz today)

for the flare I told him I didn't think jeeps were subject to that fender flare law. I could tell that he was a rookie cuz he said he wasn't sure either. lol. so he went and got his condensed version of the code book. It said "pickups" in the code book.

He said he wasn't concerned about it and they only really enforce those things to check and see if someone had been drinking etc or to see if they have a warrent.

Like I said, he was very nice and polite and so was I. I told him I'd get the license plate light taken care of and I'd put my flares back on in the back even if it isn't a law (could still throw up rocks and break someones windshield without them). then I was let go and continued on to the gym.

so, they are pretty cool about the whole thing but they do on occaision pull people over for it. Just thought I'd share :)

I run the Lite N NBoltz, they don't kick out much light but enough to be legal.

I have the OEM flares on the rear and PSC with 3 in flares up front.

Scottsdale Police: Got to be some of the nicest LEOs I have even met. My wife had her H2 stolen right after we moved in and the LEO's were fantastic.

I can only guess that their internal orders are like the one we had when I worked for the Sheriffs office, which was: "enforce the sprit of the law not the letter of the law". This translated into pull you over, no warrants or booze and NO attitude or wise mouth and it was slow down or whatever and drive safe. But an attitude or a foul mouth or booze and its NOT going to be enjoyable for you.

venture into that part of town? Having grown up in this city, (though admittedly in better parts) I can assure you there are much much much worse parts.

Anyway, it's a fix it ticket if you get pulled over without a plate light, and I don't know about you but I don't have the time to go to court.

Got pulled over in Fountain Hills several years ago for no plate light, no ticket just warning

got pulled over again in FH for having that photo radar shield on plate

I sure hope the exposed tire thing was just a rookie error, I have lived in a place that had very strict fender and bumber laws that would effect jeeps or pick ups

I think in AZ we are lucky how easy motor vehicle laws are

and thank God we dont have to have front plates!

spent the night in jail on suspicion of dui due to no tag light, was under the limit but still had my rig towed and 14 hours in madison street jail with 40 plus other dirt balls,
