Subject: December runs
Sorry guys. I've got the camper on the J-10 in preparation for a December
camping trip to the White Mtns. Rock crawling with an 8 foot long, 10 foot
high, 7 foot wide 4 person camper on the back is a bit more of a challenge
than I care to undertake at the moment. I may get to do some 'wheeling
anyway -- snow and mud are always a possibility.
Maybe in January....................

Well, since no one has determined them yet, I'm willing to go with them
in the order posted.
Dec 6-Apache Leap
Dec 13-Box/Martinez Canyon
Now the question is: When do we meet? I noticed these two runs are
listed in the same book we've been relying on in the past: "Four Wheel
Drive Trails of Arizona, vol 1" by Scott Deuty. What is the travel time
from the East Valley? How about from Avondale? I underestimated travel
time to trailhead for Table Mesa, and missed everybody.
Anyway, I'm up for the Dec 6 run. I may have relatives in on the 13th,
so I might not be able to make the second weekend.

Sounds fine to me. Apache Leap Trailhead is about 45 min. or so from
Apache Junction...so you could figure it from there. As to start time, I
suggest 10a from Oak Flats Camp Ground. Directions:
Take US60 east toward Superior. There are several gas stations here, for
topping up.
Continue east on US60, up a long grade. Once on top, look for a sign on
the right for Oak Flats Campground. We'll assemble at the campground.
The trail start is a short way further up the road, but the camp
ground's a good spot to air down and disconnect.
It's not a particularly long trail, so we should be back by late
afternoon. It's generally a class 2-3, with a class 4 hill that can be
gotten around. Some great views of Devil's Canyon and other points of
interest.
See ya there.

Hello everyone! For those of you who don't know me - I am Larry Curell, and I
own the above vehicle. Doug, and a few of the other group members know from
the Crown king run that i do not have reverse in my Jeep. Well, victory is
bestowed upon me! Chrysler is paying up, finally! The history is - I had my
tranny rebuilt in North Carolina while I was in the U.S. Army. Then, four
days after picking it up from the dealership after being "fixed", it lost
reverse. Well, I moved home to AZ, and began to fight them. Now, I am asking
the groups help. Does anyone know of a GOOD transmission shop that will take
less than THREE days to fix my tranny? Preferably in north or west Phoenix,
but will travel for the right shop!
Thanks,
Larry & Tammy Curell
94 YJ - one month closer to having reverse! (January is the target)

Actually, Saturday the 12th works better for me, since I have a friend
w/ a CJ that want's to make the trip, but can't on Sunday. How's
everyone else feel???
As to Box Canyon, it is a separate canyon...Martinez runs into it. I've
done this trail a number of times, into Martinez and also to the Gila
(toward the Coke Ovens) and we can do both. There's some class 4 stuff
(rock crawling) in Martinez I'd like to try. The trail to the Coke
Ovens, aside from a stair-step, is generally class 2-3. If there's
interest, I'd suggest we run into Martinez, to the mines, and then
back-track a short distance to pick up the trail to the ovens.
In fact, if we want a long run, we can take a trail into White Canyon
Wilderness, and exit south of Superior, but we'd need to get an early
start. I've done White Canyon area from the east, but have never done
the whole trip at one time. Could be fun. If there's interest, I'll get
a quad. and work out the trail directions.
As to the Rover, I personally don't have a problem with it, so long as
he's thinking of getting a Jeep :) I've even done trail runs w/ a
Toyota (Gasp!) ...but we need to hear from the others.

Subject: TK Sliders - Sway Bar Disconnects
I just ordered a set of rear disconnects from SC4x4E (Tim Kyle), and was able to get a club discount (20% off) for myself and any other members of AzVJC. This type of disconnect does not require the sway bar to be tied up after disconnect, but allow it to float. If you want more info, go to the web page at http://Fly.To/MuddyJEEP
He has disconnects for front and rear swaybars, for TJ's and YJ's, and I believe CJ's and XJ's, though I'm not certain. Web page would tell for sure.
At this point, I can't endorse them, but
I'll post a review once I get the set. I hope to have them installed for the Box Canyon trip.

Hi Guys,
I have a couple of requests I'd like to respectfully pass by the group:
1) Can we make the Box Canyon trip on Saturday the 12th? The Appache Leap is
on the previous Sunday. Any major objections?
2) If we can, would anyone have any objections in taking a Landrover Range
Rover along. The guy is my boss and he's thinking about buying a Jeep.
(Besides, it could be a good opportunity for you guys with winches to get some
action :-) ).
3) From Scott Deuty's book, it appears that box canyon (page 50) is part of
Martinez Canyon. Further, after completing Box Canyon (attribute #26 on the
GPS table), you can go on to the Coke Ovens (attribute #5 on page 54). I've
heard of people who combine Box Canyon and Coke Ovens in one trip. This would
seem like a good idea to me. Anyone done this before?
Regards,
Eric

Subject: Tranny in 94 YJ 2.5 ltr / 4cyl

Subject: Humble Requests to the AZ_VJC
Hi Guys,
I have a couple of requests I'd like to respectfully pass by the group:
Regards,
Eric

Can't comment on this. Haven't done this trip before, but I'm looking forward
to it.
Have a great night!
