This is a continuation to another thread I made awhile back about after market jeep exhausts and what brands you guys use. After learning more and hearing some really good set ups lately I'm starting to rethink doing the exhaust upgrade. Im looking for something throaty but not annoying. I've heard some bad stuff about non-mandrel bent systems (which apparently most shops sell) because of the affect that the pipes have on the exhaust flow.

I was going to pop for the borla system installed from a local dealer. The guy selling the aftermarket stuff recommended Mark's Muffler Master in Glendale instead. I went there and got a very nice all welded custom bent and tucked 2.5" cat back with the magnaflow muffler for $180 installed in two hours. Sounds perfect and modest performance gains to compliment my AEM intake.
Very pleased with M.M.M.

That muffler looks almost as big as the stock one... Aren't most performance mufflers considerably smaller?

I've spoken to MMM and their prices are unreal, he quoted me $150 for 2.5" piping w/muffler and labor. I forgot to ask but I can almost guarantee that their piping is non-mandrel bent.

I guess thats what Im trying to find out, is it that big a deal that its not mandrel bent??

I went with the Bassani kit #TJ0995.

Mine isn't, it is bent fine enough for the 4.0 though. I noticed a slight performace gain and mpg gain, but that was coming from a smashed tip and badly bent curve over the axle. I got 18.3 mpg on 31's with 3.07's with the new exhaust...thats as good as it ever did stock. I would say it isn't a "big deal", but if you are looking for max hp. you should look elsewhere than a new muffler and endpipe. If you are looking for sound, I can't see where the bend of the pipe would make much of a difference.

I have the dyno max catback for the XJ, it was around $125 from summit. I like the way it sounds and is a driect bolt in.

Here are some videos of how it sounds

I had some pictures of it side by side with the stock system so you could see how much smoother the flow looked. I can't find them so I'm not much help there unless you want to check it out in person sometime.

On a 4.0, 2.5 inches wont make any difference on how it's bent. If you use a smaller pipe, then you might want to mandral bend it.

I told you from the beginning to go with Mark at his shop. I have the same setup pictured, love it. The 4.0 isn't a HIGH power motor, it'll be fine.

The muffler I got was almost as big as the stocker but flowed and sounded better.
