I don't belong to any other club. I feel AzVJC has had and will continue to
have a very positive impact.

I'm a dues paying member of ASA and United. I've written many letters,
attended many meetings, participated in many trail clean ups. Many other's
in this group do exactly the same. I think the activism of AzVJC and the
lightning fast mechanism to spread the word about issues can be just as
affective, if not more so, then people who pay dues to a club and attend
monthly meetings.

I think it will take all of us, both in organizations like AzVJC and
structured clubs. No on has a corner on these issues.

Happy Trails...

Doug

I agree.....I agree. But I hope that you understood my point also. I was not
thinking about it and I did provide my email address. Also, I think that I'm
the only black Scrambler in town with "Scramzilla" painted on the hood. :-)
I'm easy to see.

Clay, I have to hand it to you... I think you now have the record on
one of the longest threads in AZVJC history. Damm I'm glad I have
turned off email from that group and only read it on the web. I think
several people will suffer mailbox overload on this one.

You have probably noticed that there are about a dozen or so that
regularly reply and in general I think those are the ones who have an
understanding and are doing something... problem is they can't put
their egos aside.

Hopefully the hoards of silent members that are out there will pick
up something from this and it will make an impression. There will be
others that could care less what is said and will continue to take
and take with little regard for what the future may be.

I have been on the sidelines out there for quite awhile and it amazes
me what some of these people will say and the disregard they have in
throwing out track information and directions to trails to 1000+
members. People will hand out info to someone they have never even
met to find trails. And we wonder why we are seeing more damage and
yahoos on the trails?

This has been an interesting exchange out there and I'm sure it will
continue some. It has been readily apparant that the people you hear
from out there are the ones already trying to do their share. The
rest you won't hear from when you ask them to stand up and be counted.

Mark

PS: Hang in there... educating the unwilling is a most challenging
chore.

You know lately it seems that a lot of folks are getting the kicks
addressing the AzVjc in a
negative way. I don't think a lot of these people come to the table
with enough knowledge about
the group to even suggest that we do nothing to preserve our Az public
lands. I have only been a
member since Nov., when I purchased my TJ, and yet I feel that I have
learned so much not only
about my jeeps and what it can do with it, but what I can do to
protect and preserve public and
blm lands . You don't have to be a paid (voted in) member to any
such club to make a
difference. A lot of clubs use the AzVjc 1400+ members to voice and

And you should be proud.
Is pride enough?
Don't know about you, but I spend allot of money on my Jeep every year,
what's 20-30 bucks a year? Even if I do decide to go above and beyond that
to protect my Jeepin' rights by attending meetings as an individual, I
wouldn't consider the Dues as my release from liability to attend meetings
concerning my land use. Vote me in, Yada,Yada, but don't mind me if I become
PROACTIVE!!!

Does this mean that Vern has inherited "the Crown" from David Withers as
most controversial member?

Hehehehehe

At the risk of putting it there again I have to say all of your
resonses have been great, I have had trouble finding getalife.com and
the site about the door hitting me in the ***, I would have to say I
could not have been more wrong, I have to admit that part of my
comments had to do with the Nearly Jeepers comment, although I agree
completely with what was said about staying off of trails that you
don't belong on and not ruining the exsisting trails, the way it was
stated made me feel like if I didn't have the experience or right
equipment I didn't belong in this club. That is why I asked about
different clubs with the attitude. From all of the responses I have
gotten and can see that I was completely and totally wrong and spoke
out of turn. Your club rocks and the people seem to be honest and
sincere. I am sorry that I can't take back the statement about small
units, but if the shoe fits. Any of you hardcore people feel like
taking me to the top of a mountain somewhere and leaving me let me
know, my Fiance says I could use the exercise.

Vern Heiple

p.s. My fiance and her friends really do say that about the tires and
lifts. Yes I have a lift and bigger tires, and I am big enough to
admit that I fit the stereotype.

Subject: My front end noises - what we found

Absolutely nothing!

We can't duplicate the sounds at all. DougB came over tonight. We had
the front diff cover off and we look and looked and looked and could not
find anything that looked out of the ordinary or was making noise. So,
we buttoned it all back up and took it for a drive in the dirt. We tried
forward and reverse in 2 high, 4 high, 4 low, and 2 low and could not
get it to make any noises. Everything sounded normal.

We figure that maybe something was caught somewhere in the driveline
hitting something else. I had looked and didn't see anything like that
on the trail, but maybe it was small enough to miss or hidden by
something else. It seemed to go away when I shifted in to 2wd on the
smooth road at the top on the way in to CK. Maybe the extra speed threw
the item out.

I'm going to run it through Box Canyon sometime soon to test it for a
longer period of time and to put the drivetrain under a little stress,
but nothing hard. We'll see what happens.

One more time....... If you will re-read my post you will see that I stated
this "Club" does NOT have to become and "official" club. I was merely
stating that the official clubs.....paying clubs dues, have a HUGE part in
keeping trails open for you and everyone else and to consider it as an
option.

Now with that being said. If you attend land closure meetings; Send money
to the originations that keep land usage open; Tread lightly and respect
public property, then you are not the intended audience. As far a "these
people coming to the table without knowledge of the group and not knowing
what VJC does to preserve public lands".........Well this person at the
table has heard plenty. If you are of the opinion that all 1400+ club
members in the VJC are land protecting, Eco-Nazis fighting, Tread lightly
Jeepers........MAN do you have some catching up to do. Just read some of the
treads that have been posted.

Look Stu, I'm not tying to start a pissing contest but I can assure you that
every other affiliated club in Arizona DOES do all the things I have stated
and more.......This is an undisputed fact.

Here, let me quiz you for just a second. Did you know that if someone camps
on public land has to have a permit? (new law) Did you know that ALL clubs
HAVE to post their club runs on their club page in advance? If you dought
any of this, just call you local "BLM" office and ask them for yourself.

Now I'm not talking about "organized permits." I'm talking about club people
camping out at AJ and wheelin over this weekend. I bet you 75% of the people
in this club did not know that.......And if you are a member of another AZ.
4X4 club, that does not count on your behalf........Look it up. Remember,
you ARE a club.....ie, group.

So the next time you or anyone else has a wildcat camping weekend at
AJ.....and do not pay.........Hmmmmmmm.

Okay I'm not a jeep mechanic, but I try to do whatever is needed all on my own. lately I've been feeling like my jeep is lacking power in the upper gears. Like, I don't even shift into 5th anymore on the freeway. Nothing major was changed recently, just feels a little doggy. What should I check? I had the oil changed and recharged my K&N. What are the symptons of bad spark plugs? I'm at 61K miles and I'm sure the dealer never changed the plugs.

The Super 35 kit is maid my Superior and is comes with a Detroit locker and
bigger chrommoly axels. The D35 is famous for breaking axels, carriers and
bending axel housings.

Break the bank? What bank? Im still working on me degree ($$$)... I think Im
going to go with the sawzaw method and start hacking till I can fit big
rubber under it. :) Wow the 33's are looking good now. ;>Thank you all for
the info. Fred you asked if I was auto or 5spd... 5spd with a D35 and a
locker running 3.73 as of now. What is a super 35 kit? Like I said I know
nothing :) But I am willing to ask and learn.
Thanks again

I am not a TJ expert(i am a CJ type guy) so I am sure if I get this wrong
some one will let us know.
To clear 35" tires plan on a 5 1/2" lift kit. as for the gears I would go
with 4.56:1 and while you are at it might as well do the super 35 kit in the
rear if you are running the D35. If you are running the D44 than but a
Detroit locker back there and an ARB in the front.

Opps did I just break your bank?

I don't know much (nothing at all) about this. I have a 00TJ and was told
that I should ask all of you what is the best way to go when doing a lift. I
want to end up with 35" rubber under the jeep. I was thinking of only going
33's but if I am spending that much money why not go all the way. What gears
do I need to run? Other modifications? Thanks for any advice or experiences.

Subject: great service at OR-Fab

Just thought I would pass along a positive comment about one of our
local vendors. When I tried to put my top up yesterday so I could
wash the Crown King trail dust off my Jeep (you guys know how anal I
am about cleaning my Jeep), I noticed that it would no longer go on
over my new sport cage. I called Mark at OR Fab and he asked me to
bring it by so they could take a look. When I got to the shop today
we discovered that the factory had left my stock roll bar wider than
usual (yes they are adjustable). Mark and Wayne took time out of
their day to pull out my cage, make a minor adjustment to bring it in
some and reinstalled everything. Mark even looked over my tire
carrier that I bought from them and gave me a couple pieces that
seemed to have been left out when I bought it 6 months ago. When I
got home my top went on without any problems and my Jeep is now shiny
and clean. Chalk me up as another very satisfied customer of OR-Fab's.
Thanks Mark and Wayne!

Les
