Hello everyone,
I bought a 1977 CJ a few weeks ago and the first time I got gas, I discovered the filler neck that goes from the gas cap to the gas tank is bad and leaks badly when gas in inserted or the tank is over half full.

Since then I have been looking everywhere to find one, but everyone only seems to carry upto 1975 and from 1978 and up, completely skipping over 76 and 77 (why is that?).

I found one online for a 1975 CJ5, the picture looked really close to what I had, but you cannot tell everything from pictures, like dimensions.

I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction?

Also, mine is the one piece hard molded rubber hose and was wondering if I could even swap in a metal tube with two pieces of rubber hose on either end like the 60's chevy's? If so, where could I get the rubber hose as Checker would not sell me anything as they were afraid of being liable if the part was not used the way it was intended.

Is your Jeep a 5 or a 7?

Ok, the hose to use is part#5354760 It fits a 76 CJ7. You need to cut and splice a piece of metal tubing into it. Other than that it is the same. I have 2 on the shelf. AZVJC price is $27.:)

Awesome.
just to double check, the inside diameter of the hose you have on the shelf is 2 inches?

Yes,2" 1977 was all by itself. The 76 neck is 2" by 6". The 77 neck is 2" by 2". The 78up neck is 1"by 2". Good ole Jeep always thinking up great ideas.

Excellent, thank you for your help and I am sure I will be purchasing one of the two you have on your shelf.

I'll be stopping by tomorrow around 1 to pick up the filler neck for Tyler. He lives out in Cavecreek so its a bit of a drive in a Jeep that only holds a swallow of gas due to the filler neck being cracked and rotten:D

Thank you Jeff.

You can put it in will call under his name (Jeff) as he will pick it up.

I also have a question, you mentioned using a piece of metal tube between the hose to splice it. Will a 2 inch piece of exhaust tube work or will the gas rust that?

Or do you happen to have some metal tube that Jeff can also pick up for me?
