How much modification will take place to do this swap...
I think I am gonna go with a 2002 Chevy 5.7 TBI with the NV3500 and Dana 300 t-case.
I know I will need to make engine mounts...
do I need to get a adapter for the dana 300 tcase to mount to the NV3500?
I m gonna upgrade my AMC 20 rear with Alloy axles and lockers soon
what else do I need... what cleance issues will I have with the NV3500, hitting the body etc. I am gonna do a 1 inch BL
what ELSE?

I think your mistaking a NV3500 for a NV4500 which is the popular choice for a Jeep... The NV3500 is only rated at 300 ft/lb in the input and has a relatively high first gear, there is a HD NV3500 but to increase the torque rating it has an even taller first gear... Doesn't your CJ7 already have a Dana 300? The Dodge 4x4 NV4500 bolts to a Dana 300 without an adapter but requires a bell housing adapter to bolt to a GM engine...
Don't believe GM had a TBI (Throttle Body Injection) 5.7l in 2002... I have a circa 1998 or so Vortech 5.7l out of a Tahoe, composite intake, center mounted throttle body with port fuel injection... Works well and will idle down to 300rpm without stalling...:)
GM truck engine choices were 5.3l and 6.0l with port injection, composite intake, front mounted throttle body (all are great engines and well exceed 300ft/lbs)...
Here is a link I found on the NV3500 : http://dodgeram.org/tech/transmission/nv3500_spec.htm
There is thread on jeepforum.com where I posted up some pics of my NV4500 install. I have new body mounts but no body lift. Transmission is close to the floor. Pretty much a straight forward swap...
Good luck with your project...

well your right on the chevy engine... what I ment was it has the "spider poppet injectors. )
but I have a NV3500 available... but if I can find the dodge 4500 that would be better. and find a bell housing for it... and as for the t case yes thats what i have thats why i was asking :)

Just curious what you would be gaining over your current setup with the NV3500 other than overdrive? Are you going to low gear your diffs?
Not sure if the NV3500 bolts up to a Dana 300 like the Dodge 4x4 NV4500 does, probably if you search the net you can find the info you are looking for or try the more technical CJ forums as I am sure this swap has come up before...

frm what I see the Dodge 1500 4x4 came with the 3500 and 4500 as an option... would they change the 3500 t case mount differ from the 4500?
I found both a dodge 3500 and 4500 all they need is a new output shadt bearings... which is no problem for me I will replacd them... BUT is the splines the same? from output shaft of the 3500 or 4500 to the input shaft of the dana 300
And will the dodge 3500 or 4500 tranny, bolt to a chevy bell housing? I dont see why it wouldnt.. considering chevy and dodge used the same trans but different bellhousings...

The NV4500 doesn't bolt directly to a traditional GM bellhousing...So if a NV3500 would bolt to the same bellhousing as a NV4500 then you will need a bellhousing adapter (Advance Adapters sells it for around $120.00). When they introduced the NV4500 they changed the front dimensions from that of a SM465, NP435 as far as the input shaft length, indexing rings, bolt pattern. The GM NV4500 has a intergal hydraulic throwout bearing so every switches over to the Dodge bearing retainer and then uses a Ford N1417 throwout bearing with a slightly tweaked GM clutch fork...
I would checkout www.nv4500.com... Tons of good info there...

As far as would they change the NV3500 from the NV4500 it seems like they'll do anything to screw us up.... :D If the same original transfercase would bolt up to both a NV3500 and NV4500 then you should be in good shape with your Dana 300...

Uh www.nv4500.com .... A NV4500 for free, the core is worth $500 so snatch it up ASAP even if it's a 2wd version...
Pros: NV4500 has lower first gear and higher torque capacity...
Cons: Hangs a bit lower

I have to agree...
With all the pluses of my NV4500, Dana 300 and 3.73 R&P (crawl ratio around 60:1) the only benefit of my NV4500 over my old TH400 Custom Converter, Bronco Dana 20 and 4.10 R&P in a Chevy powered 66 Bronco is the NV4500 has overdrive... Slush boxes are the way to go IMO for severe rock crawling... But shifting the stick is fun....until you get into traffic...

I dont like autos for rock crawling... from the few that i have seen crawl with autos... have to put the tanny into reverse or neutral to roll back a little... as to opose t just pushing the clutch in... I dunno I like shifting my vehicle.
well... my search will continue.
