Subject: Touch-UP Paint/spray cans??

I want to thank all those that helped me out with finding a store that would make up spray cans for touch-up. I believe all of those that replied to my posting on Touch-UP paint, recommended "Space Age Paints" on Country Club. Well my Son went by today before leaving Mesa to come up to Payson, and the employees at Space Age Paints told him that they couldn't do the spray cans. They did get my color code and said that they could make up a quart of paint to match, but didn't know anything about spray cans etc. etc. Did they stop providing this product? And is there possibly another store that can do this for the customer? Thank you in advance for all of your help,

Casper

You can buy the sprayer, or the refillable spray cans
from harbor freight.

Hello Gang,
My son lives in Mesa, on Country Club just a couple of blocks from the interstate. The scum busted out his rear window in his Toyota SR5 4x4 pickup, and after totally trashing his dash etc., they took the whole works =
CD Player, rear 6x9 speakers, amp, and his custom built speaker boxes with two 12" speakers, and well over 200.00 in CD's which were kept in a custom built storage unit. So, lock 'em up tight guys. And then that may not enough. Well I thought I would let you all know, especially those living on County Club rd. Oh BTW, after the cops dusted for finger prints (because the scum left their tools, flash light, and lighter, on the rear bumper), it was very apparent that they had intentions to try and steal the truck, for they found the same prints on the steering column, around the ignition and the ignition was really damaged as if someone tried to insert a screwdriver and bust it over. Well I thought I would just vent, and tell you to watch your rigs................

Hello All,

Nick Gasmena is leading a Raw Deal (Upper) trail run on Friday, February 22, 2002.

When: 7:00PM Friday Night
Where: Meet at the usual "Air Down" spot off of Table Mesa rd and Frontage Rd.
Rating: 4.0+
Length: 2-4hrs
CB Channel: 04

I want to do a night run friday night. I plan on going through lower raw deal, so those of you who dont want that 4.0+ trail, you may still come along. There is a bypass to just watch those who want to do the upper section of raw deal. I have run this trail many times, and I believe that 31" tires, 1 limited slip or better, and some ground clearance would be in nessessary to run this trail with our group.

Those of you going on upper should have 33"+ tires, a 1 locker and 1 limited slip. Ground clearance is nessessary to clear the large boulders.

I hope to see a lot of you out there! I wouldnt mind having a BBQ afterwards if any of you would like to join just for that!

Previous owner of my Cherokee replaced the steering wheel with a GMC one. I have no horn as a result. I purchased a Gant steering wheel but I am missing the original Jeep internals such as the spring to make this work. I also have the original steering wheel with no horn button. Has anyone mounted a button on the dash and what wires were used? I was thinking of this as a temporary fix until I can get the proper parts from the junk yard or else where. Murphy's Law, didn't seem to need a horn until the Jeep became my daily driver when I gave my wife the pickup.

Subject: 5.5" RE Long arm kit.. Why isnt is flexing more?

I am fortunate to have a nice big rock for me to play on when im bored in front of my house! Unfortunately, when I had my old 4.5" RE kit, it could get to the top of this rock without lifting a tire. I still have another 6 or so inches to the top of that rock, and as you can see, my driver side front tires is off the ground by about 3"!!! What is wrong here? The anti-rock sway bar is even disconnected! I do have rear sway bars, with the extensions... and I run the provided Old Man EMU Nitro shocks that come with the new lift kit. Any ideas as so why this baby isn't on top of my house by now? I am kind of disappointed.

Nick,

The RE long arm kit wasn't designed to increase articulation at all over it's brother the short arm kit. The long arm kit was designed to increase stability on and offroad.
One of the reasons your long arm kit may not be articulating as well right now is that your bushings may be very tight... give it awhile, a few offroad trips, and then try your rock again; I'd bet you conquer it without lifting a tire.

Kind Regards,

Joe West

Two things:

1. You will not be able to remove the spider gears no that they are welded.
2. You Lincoln locker (welded spiders) is not a good idea on a D30. The
carrier will not be able to handle the stress and will brake.

The shocks are too short for one thing. The OME long travel shocks (I'm assuming that's what they sent and not the "regular" shocks which would be waaaaayyyyyy to short) are for 4 ~ 4.5" of lift only. You can check, quickly to see if either of the shocks are fully extended by looking to see if the monotube part is showing a necked down section, . If so, the shock is fully extended.
BTW, I know you have the Currie A/R bar disco'd in the photo, but be aware, that the links are too short for that much lift. The links that are provided are for 4 ~ 4.5 " on lift. What you'll have to go is get a couple of feet of 1/2" steel rod and a right and left hand 1/2 x 20 die. Cut the links to the correct length and thread the ends, one right hand and one left hand thread on each link. The correct adjustment is such, when on level ground and you look at the Jeep from the side, the long arms (black flat arms) of the A/R bar should run "uphill" slighty, from the front to the rear. It should basically follow the top of the lower frame rail angle (12* or so).

Cheers,
Fred

Subject: Leaf Spring Death Wobble Solved

For those that are interested, I solved my death wobble issues on my CJ
after doing my full width axle swap. I sort of "threw the kitchen sink"
at it and it works now!! Here are the things that I changed.

1) Ground 7 degrees out of the passenger's side diff perch and
relocated the driver's side perch 7 degrees to bring caster from 12
degrees to 5 degrees. I then installed 4 degree shims and the caster
sits right around 2 degrees now. This did NOT solve the death wobble
issues.
2) Replaced upper and lower ball joints on both sides. They were
pretty shot. Didn't get a chance to run it with just this change to see
if this solved it by itself.
3) Put new wheels on (no tires) and adjusted toe. Toe was out a good
3/4" of an inch front to rear. Alignment shops suggested 1/16" of an
inch max.

I think the toe adjustment was my down fall. Once I did the toe, death
wobble was not there any more. I am running on some old 35" TSL/SX's
that have a few bent wheels and massive flat spots (was in a big
accident). Even with the thing shaking due to wheels/tires, I still do
not have death wobble.

Thanks to all who gave advice. It is much appreciated.

Yes, for a D30 it breaks at either 3.55 or 3.73. I just bought new
gears and had to buy a new carrier. I too had 3.07's

Someone correct me if I am wrong....but there is a carrier break between
3.07 and 4.56 gears. If I understand it correctly, the answer is no, it
won't work. Of course, I could be all wrong, in which case someone will
gladly point that out! ;)

I am getting 4.56 gear to replace my 3.07's in my Dana 30, my question
is, since I have welded my spider gears, can I use them in the new case?
Or am I fooked and have to get new spider gears and weld them up again?
I am thinking they won't come out since they're welded together but has
anyone done this? btw anyone got a case and spider for a reverse cut
Dana 30 for 3.73 and up gears they want to sell me? Thanks,

Scott Maiden

That's odd, because they say not to use one without manual hubs.

I run a Detroit in the rear and a Powertrax NoSlip in the front with
35's, 4.56 gears, and a 4:1 tcase. I have run these lockers in Moab,
Axle Alley, Terminator, Predator, etc and even on some snow runs and
I've never had any problems with them in 2 years.

From what I've learned from talking with other Jeep owners as well as
owning them is that the full Detroit is better behaving in the rear than
a NoSlip. The NoSlip is a really good choice for a front diff that does
not have locking hubs. My front NoSlip is completely transparent until
you shift into 4WD.

Detroits run around $500, depending on where you get it. Not sure on the
powertrax.

How much is a powertrax no lip and a detroit soft locker.
Will a powertrax work woth 35" muds?
I understand the difference between the two, just need to know the
questions above.

I noticed my ARB compressor was making quite a hiss.
After looking at it last night, I noticed the gasket
is has split. I am just learning jeep stuff.....so,
is this a pretty simple fix?
