Here are a few pic's of the new Cooper STT. We will be running this tire on the buggy this season, so it will be put through the most extreme conditions.
The compound is soft with a tough sidewall. You can get all the spec's on this tire at Coopertires.com
It is available in alot of sizes at a great price.
The tire in the picture is a 37x 12.50-17

I don't think Dave works on Fridays... I'm gonna send him a pm though; wouldn't mind knowing how much these are; would like to find something that works better than the MTR's without draining the wallet...

Todd I see these have a 3ply side wall, so I'm guessing they wouldn't be alot better than the MTR in terms of resisting a tear... Any idea of how they would compare in that area? Is the compound a lot softer than an MTR?

That's a nice tire. Does it come in a 35x12.50x15?

Yes, they come in that size. For the price, look into some of the Maxxis M/Ts

Bummer that they included that rim flange protector that the Krawlers have. Seems that with lower inflation pressures tires with this feature tend to lose a bead a bit easier.

The tread actually wraps around the side wall alot more than a MTR. The compound feels softer than a MTR. I will be putting these tires to the test to see how tough and how well they work.
As far as side walls being cut, the way I see it it depends alot on driver.

We will see, I will be running them at 6 psi with water in the frt. tires. The tires were alot harder to seat the bead than a BFG.

Good luck getting maxxis tires:) There is not a wholesaler in Phx that sales Maxxis anymore.
Maxxis is very hard to work with. We tried to go direct but they would not work with us at all.

Ive been running the 37 x12.50 x 17 now for about 8 months and Iam really happy with them. Ive been running them at about 6 to 8 psi with no bead locks and I haven't popped a bead yet. One of the guys I wheel with has the 35 x 12.50 x 15's on his LJ that he drives quite a bit on the street as well as off road and he's really happy with his as well. The sidewall lugs work really well when pushed up against a wall or the side of a big rock. When we ran Woody's Wash a little while back we had four rigs on the run and the two rigs with the stt's made it out fine while the trail claimed two mtr's and a pro comp xterrain.

Yeah, I found that out when I was trying to get some Maxxis...and thats part of the reason I picked up the Pitbulls from you guys. Thanks again ;)
Thats a damn good price for 35s...Cooper makes a good tire.

Todd, I can't recall, are you running inner and outer beadlocks or just outer? I look foward to hearing about your experience with these tires.

I run just outer beadlocks. When I ran the BFG 39's I would blow the inner bead if I went below 6 psi, The Pro-Comp X-Terrains I never blew a inner bead even at 3 psi

http://www.bajataco.com/bajastires.html Interesting review. I'm really suprised by the 20k miles estimate for treadwear. I got more than that out of a set of Bias Swampers.

Hmmm....I got a quote from Discount on the Maxxis Creepy Crawlers. Not cheap though in the 37s.
I spke with Discount the other day and they dropped the Maxxis tire line due to issues dealing with Maxxis.. Hmm...

I've been running a set of 33x12.50r15 on my 2000 Cherokee for about 9 months, and have about 6000 miles on them. All that seems to have worn off is the little nubbies. I think on a lite rig they will last a long time. I got mine from Discount Tire. They were about 160 apiece.

FWIW
I got some bighorns from Discount last week. They had to order, and also chase me out to the parking lot after I walked the first time...............but they also matched an online price from selecttire.com and sold me the warranty....
that Cooper looks cool tho :)

My opinion----I would spend my money on something else....Working in the adjustment center I have adjusted 2 sets of these in the last 4 weeks..I am sure these will be a good OFFROAD USE ONLY tire...
As for Discount dropping Maxxis is news to me because I have been delivering hundreds if not thousands of them last two months now... I will check into this I know we have a contract to only purchase certain tires like the Creepies
I got the lowdown today.. The wharehouse won't sell them to us due to shipping expense.. theres no incentive for us to purchase them at retail..
So Discount tire is the place for Maxxis..

My opinion on the tire, I feel these tires are the best I have tried next to BFG stickies. After I played with the tire pressures these tires hooked up very well. The sidewalls have good bite too.;) Next comp. will be in Globe, this will test them on natural terrain.
I have a friend with a set of 35's on his TJ, has about 5000 miles on them and still look new.

Rick,
what were the problems?

Rick,
what were the problems?
Belt seperations.... Would be very ugly if someone would loose a tire at highway speeds & how tall we run our tires 33-35-37's & now 40's
almost impossible to control in a panic situation
Once again my (opinion) this will be a very good OFFROAD tire only
Our southwest heat is brutal on all tires If you like I will give you a tour of our adjustment center & let you decide for yourself

I would not say it is just a good offroad tire because you have adjusted some tires. What about all the other tires you adjust, are they only offroad also? Does not seem fair to make a conclusion on a few adjusted tires. How many have been sold and what percentage fail?
All tires will have a problem here and there. The STT does not come in a 40" tire;)
My buddy that owns Wickenburg Tire has customers getting 40 - 50 K out of the STT.

I have some interesting documents I like to fax or even send in the mail. reference of Cooper tires revised as early as March 02-07... There has been a recall with certain Cooper tires since Feb-10-06, & on this list is the Cooper Discoverer STT in seven different sizes with certain identifacation numbers
(3DBNCWF3206-3306) I am not going to list all the DOT number(s) I do have a list if needed.
A notice has been sent in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act...... Cooper Tire & Rubber Company has decided that a defect wich relates to motor vehicle safety exists in subjected tires may have been produced..
Subjected tires may have been produced with non-conforming belt wire coal stock. If placed in service the subjected tires may develop a belt seperation due to a reduced ability to prevent corrosion of the steel wires in an instance where moisture reaches the steel belt possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
The steel belt will rust with in 24 hours if moisture is present (fact)

Interesting, but I am sure any problems Cooper Tire has corrected any issues.
They sell alot of tires and make alot of other brand tires. ( Procomp, Mickey Tompson to of the big names.
Cooper Tire has been around for along time and am sure they will be around for a long time to come.
