Sandy had talked about it several months ago... had asked us for some trail information, which if I'm not mistaken led Shnipe out into no-mans land and eventually found us a new trail... that I can't even begin to run... so Thanks for Nuttin Honey!!!... I haven't heard anymore about it.

Friends of Sycamore are working diligently with FS with route inventories and evaluations for the entire Sycamore area. Approx. 86,000 acreas ??????

BTW: Sandee did NOT send anyone out to "Open" for "Find" a new trail!!! I asked someone to check out a trail that has been used for a number of years that has been inventoried but was identified for single track use only. [claimed 4x4's couldn't do it]. 4x4's DID use it 10 - 12 yrs. ago. I've never heard back whether anyone checked it out for use.

An entire inventory has been done by the users AND a professional inventory team. The Friends of Sycamore, the evaluation team and specialty staff from FS have done an "evaluation" of each trail. A few were recommended to be closed............. riparian protection and a few deadend spurs. Although even the spurs were open to more investigation as to whether these might be hunting routes.

The overall concept is for the Lower Sycamore area to be for families, camping, close loop trails for youth learning and tot lot for ATV and bike riders. There is a 4x4 "play" area [log pit, hill climb, sand pit, rock pile etc] planned for near the river. There will be 4x4 trails from this area to specific 4x4 sites within the area but the major connections for 4x4 will be the trail system outside Sycamore itself. Moving north the area will be mostly signed specifically for ATV trails. The northern most portion will mostly be dedicated to single track trails. Around Sugarloaf Mtn will identify a "rock crawling" forum.

It's an on going process and will eventually fit into the Tonto Forest Plans and Transportation plans. This process and an actual "park" is several years away yet.

Friends of Sycamore meet the third Tues. every month at the Mesa Ranger District office at 7:00 p.m............... everyone is welcome.

I did NOT say you sent anyone to Open or Find new trails; I was under the impression at one point you were looking for help with route invatory.

This is what you wrote; "looks to me like it's time for them to do the same. The Friends of Sycamore are going through a complete route evaluation now. We did the first 1/2 a couple of weeks ago................. hope to finish Sept. 15-17. If anyones interested in the process or want to be involved, please let me know.............."

This is when Shnipe started driving around the area looking at trails and subsequently discovered No Limits...

The message you quoted above is re Evaluation of inventoried routes........ not "looking for trails". This includes documenting data on each route on the inventoried trails. i.e.: who uses the route, hunters, challenge of 4x4, ATV or single track, riparian, T&E, condition of the route, parallel to an equal route, near the highway, need loops, cultural, historical etc etc etc.

We were asked to provide GPS or data re routes that were maybe missed on the inventoried but that did not mean to "find" another trail. We were only interested in existing routes. With the evaluations done the FOS are putting plans together for the Lower Sycamore area regarding ramada, potties, camping sites, 4x4 area, tot lots, how to delineate routes for ATV's vs single track. ADOT will be rerouting the entry this next year so plans for rehabing the existing entry will be discussed. Now that Tonto is entering it's Forest Plans and Transportation Plans this group will fit plans together.

hes not implying that we went out on any of the inventory planning or evaluation. Hes just saying the last time we started talking about the Syck OHV park Junk and I wanted to run around and get an overall idea of the condition of the sycamore area for our own knowledge and not just what we had been hearing or reading. When the idea about the No Limits area not being included in the trails we could use came into mind i went back out and checked again to see if it was something that should be included in the plan of existing trails by the time the plans are all said and done.

Was it submitted to FOS as a trail that had been missed on the inventory or verified as being on the map? This needs to be done or this trail/area will not be included in the final plans for Sycamore. Sycamore will not be an "open" riding area. All riding/driving will be limited to designated trails / areas.

If you have some trail information please get the information to a FOS member or join in at one or more of the FOS meetings. Your help sounds to be important.

RufflesTruffles... please don't b!tch about the information presented when you were the one who asked "Sandee/Anyone" if there had been any updates... Wasn't trying to stir the sh!t pot folks; was just throwing in what I knew, based on the fact that you asked.

I thought Sandee was originally looking for input on trails... (I was obviously wrong... My Bad) Shnipe had done some looking around at the general condition of the area (In an attempt to help out and provide Info)... Found us No Limits as a result... Up until Sandee's reply to me; I hadn't heard anything else about Syc... that's all I was saying, thats all that I knew...

I'll go ahead and stay the fawk out of all of this now...

Shnipe........... Question: Is this "No Limits" trail the rock wash around the north side of Sugarloaf Mtn? If it is it's already on the maps as a NEW trail to be developed for extreme 4x4. ......... Even with the single track guys not believing it can be done until they ran into someone out there a couple of weeks ago. :D :D :D

If there's something else I'd really like to know about it so we can get it included in the planning. THANKS,

I passed on all the info a while back to Rich and the FOS crew. I sent him another email about it a week or so ago when this thread started. He said all the arrangements were to be made

He did mention it at last weeks meeting............... as soon as I saw what he plotted on the map I knew this is what we had already planned. GOOD JOB!
Thanks............ Rich said he'd received the info a while back but didn't know who it was from. That was the trail we had discussed to open when we found the "competition site" along the main road at the "Y" going around the back of Sugarloaf was found to be a "tortoise study" area. Art is still supporting finding a rock pile or competition or extreme site along with extreme trails so actually this was something he suggested we look into. Thanks..... saved me a bunch of time. Besides that you blew the single track guys minds!! They couldn't believe a jeep could do this. yuk, yuk !

Would love to have you join in the Friends of Sycamore. There's only two of us that are covering 4x4 and I'm not a lot of help re "what's on the ground today" because I simply don't have the time to go out there any more. Would be really nice to not have 2-3 meetings each day. Guess it gives you all more time to "play" huh?

LOL @ PLAY TIME!! Ive been trying to get to the meetings but im on a set schedule taht has me here on tuesdays. Ive tried in the past to request the days off but they dont see Preserving Our Wildlife and OHV areas as a high on the list excuse  I do get the minutes from the meetings though.

I think what you guys are working towards in the Syck area is great. Im in 100% agreement that this trail would be perfectly suited for the extreme 4x4 trail you guys are looking for. We have been keeping an eye on the trail and the guys at crawlingaz as well to make sure we keep it in great shape. Last thing we need is to have what you guys are working for be screwed over cause of yahoos.

Thanks for all you do Sandee!!

I hate to say, we need protection from ourselves.. The "ourselves" meaning people in general. Just got back from Ocotillo Wells and made me feel a bit safer with all the park rangers watching my junk and it was nice having a lier free desert with ramadas, showers and bathrooms. I really would not mind paying a yearly fee for these areas if they were better kept up.
