The best advice I got was when I asked the same question was: "save your
money and by one lift you want to replace." What type of vehicle is it
for?

Hi,
Been looking at 4" lift kits and have narrowed it
down to these possibilities. Super lift, rough
country, and trail master. These are the $500 starter
kits. Does anyone have experience with these. I
would like to know about reliability quality and all
those other things everybody wants to get out of it.
I am also looking for the option to go taller if I
feel the urge and dont want a lot of parts to throw
away if I do. I also plan on going to a full kit when
I get the money and would like to know if anyone has
experience on which would be most economical.

Thanks
Brian

To be honest Brian, David gave you the best answer. If you already
plan on going bigger, but don't have the cash for it, WAIT. If you
have $500 burning a hole in your pocket, start with things you will
need anyway that are not included in a kit. SYE, aftermarket tire
carier, winch, front bumpers. Why waste the money on a lift that you
are going to replace anyway? Also, you will prob go with bigger
tires too, so there is another added expense, a second set of tires.
I know it is hard to wait, but think of the money and labor you will
save yourself. If anything, buy a budget boost (coil spacers) just
to get you out of stock size.

I have to agree with Mike 100%. I am currently working on getting the stuff
for my 3rd lift. I would have just wanted and saved my money I would
already be there and it would be the way that I want it to look. I bought
my 2" lift and ran it for 2 1/2 months, before going bigger. Good luck.

As others have said, it depends on what tranny, what rear axle, how much
lift including how much sag due to extra weight you may have added to
your Jeep and due to how much you've abused your springs. Note that
if your springs are new, they're probably taller now than they may be a
year from now.

Of course, you'll be removing the t-case drop so that will also increase
the length of the driveshaft you need.

I think it is best to do all your mods and then measure. This will put
your Jeep out of commission but only for a day.

Hi Alan

Not sure what Jeep you have. Not sure if you have drum or disk brakes on the back. But you should be able to hammer (maybe use a punch) to knock the old stud out. Then push the new one in from the back and use a open nut (one the stud can go all the way though) to pull the new stud all the way in to mounting hole.

First choice would be to press it out. If there's enough room behind
the axle flange, use a large c-clamp and a socket on the back side of
the flange. Or, a better choice might be the Harbor Freight u-joint
tool that gets mentioned on this list quite frequently. You may need
to remove the brake shoes to create enough room to work with.

Last choice would be to pound it out. However, there's definitely not
enough room behind the flange to pound in the new stud so you probably
need to use the option above for that.

I take it as a post from a vendor who is trying to make money on
parts that are rediculously priced. They are not helping anyone in
the group by ripping us off. I believe (just my opinion) that the
OT, or atleast most of the OT posts are to inform and help us as a
group. Some ones useless mail to you is gold to someone else.
Filter out the OT posts through your e-mail, I know some members do
it, and it is not that hard.

If it causes some type of disturbance then no its not okay. And
thats what it did, that would be my two cents!

Just to make some more noise, let's not take ourselves too seriously, (we
might be mistaken for ARCA) If the intent is to help, who cares? If the
content doesn't interest you, don't read it. I myself am a rational
anarchist. If YOU need rules to keep yourslef out of trouble, OK, I'll look
at them, and if they don't restrict my freedom, I'll tolerate them. (read
ignore) But since I am a basically quiet guy, not looking for trouble, they
really don't affect me. Let's not over-react.......
