If they're talking about the spring in the e-brake release mechanism
(as I think they are), then your assertion would not be correct.
But it would be an effective excuse to convince the wife you need
the upgrade. ;-)

The "3-in-1" u-joint tool that normally goes for $39.99 is in stock at the
35th Ave & Bethany Home Road store. I was over there a bit ago and they had
a half dozen or more sitting on the shelf. These seem to be commonly out of
stock so if you've been looking for one, now is your chance.

If you don't have one of these for doing u-joint replacements, you are
REALLY making it more difficult for yourself, IMO.

Hello All,

Alan Parker is leading an Unspecified trail run on Saturday, February 16, 2002.

When: 8:00 AM
Where: I-17 and Table Mesa Rd. North East Corner Dirt Lot
Rating: None
Length: 4 to 6 hours
CB Channel: 7

This is an exploration trip starting at Table Mesa Rd. and I-17, heading west to trails north of Lake Pleasant. The trails well be using are well mapped but Lake Pleasant has increased in size, and most of the available maps have not been updated.

The route will take us across the Agua Fria river, then by White Bluffs, and just north of Indian Mesa. If we can get this far, well take the trail to Fort Tule, and then eventually end up at Castle Hot Springs Road. According to DeLorme mapping software, this route is 32.7 miles. Email me if you would like to take a look at the maps.

This is an exploratory trip. The trail conditions are unknown, and we may have to turn back without reach the goal. If this happens, there are plenty of alternative trails in the Table Mesa area.

The maximum number of vehicles is 6.

I imagine you all have heard the story going around the Internet about the Duck Hunters using dynamite to blast a hole in the ice only to have their dog retrieve the stick and run under their Jeep (in some stories it is a Lincoln Navigator) and blow it up. Well, obviously it is an urban legend, read now the original 1899 story that spawned a mess of Urban Legends with the same theme:
http://whitewolf.newcastle.edu.au/words/authors/L/LawsonHenry/prose/joewilsonandmates/loadeddog.html

BTW, if you haven't read the current Urban Legend go here:

Hello All,

beer is leading a Coves of Saguaro Lake trail run on Saturday, February 16, 2002.

When: Saturday Feb. 16 @ 9:00
Where: Meet at Butcher Jones at the back of the lot by the green gate.
Rating: 2.5+
Length: 1/2 day.
CB Channel: 4

This is just an exploratory and fun run to get out into the desert. I have a mostly stock jeep so this is probably a good run for stock vehicles that haven't been out too much. I haven't myself, really been out that often and am still not sure about wheeling all together but am willing to learn and am not afraid to jeep my jeep.

TO GET THERE: Take the Bush Hwy (exit Power Rd. from the 60) and head North toward The Salt River. Continue on Bush Hwy until you see the Turn off of for Butcher Jones. Turn Right at Butcher Jones and head toward the end of the lot. Meet there.

if comming from the west valley you can get there
by
going down shea to the beeline(87) and take a left. Continue until you
hit
the bush highway (bout 8-11 miles) at bush highway take a right and
look for
the bucher jones highway (3 miles from turnoff) take a left and
continue
till you hit the butcher jones place (like a mile or two).

Alternate route
Take 202 east to Country club road get off and take a left this is the
beeline(87) follow it until you hit the bush highway (bout 25 miles or
so)
at bush highway take a right and look for the bucher jones highway (3
miles
from turnoff) take a left and continue till you hit the butcher jones
place
(like a mile or two).

At the Coves of Saguaro Lake, there are at least 4 coves to play in, on, and around. Many hill climbs provide a challenge to all levels of 4-Wheelers and vehicles.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and offers for help on easy

run with on Sunday...something that a novice without lockers can do.
I'm not saying I want a cakewalk...something with a bit of challenge

not break her. We have all day, so time isn't a factor. Thanks!

A couple co-workers and myself are going to run FR42 on Sunday. We'd like to have a few more vehicles along (maybe 3-6 more). We'll probably exit via Indian Springs to avoid the washboard on Horseshoe Dam Road. We hope to be off the trail by 1pm but that should still leave plenty of time to stop and chat and take in the scenery.

When: 9:30 at the Texaco in FJ. Pull out by 9:45
Where:
Rating: 3.5+

CB Channel: 4

I have never run this trail, and need directions. Should be great weather this weekend. Also this is a 3.5+ trail, so it should be fun for all jeeps.

Orville's Loop will take you over almost every type of terrain; you will traverse washes, hills, rocks and then do them again. You will view the Gila River Valley, Florence and the East Phoenix Valley from the top. There will be moderate to hard rock climbs and ledges.

It takes some driving experience and a slightly modified vehicle. A rear traction device is required and this trail requires clearance and 31" or larger tires.

Hopefully someone who has ran this entire run will show and lead the way.

I have made the run from Indian Springs Wash back into the

Verde and seen where FR-42 crossed Indian Springs. I'm not

exactley sure of the starting spot, but I think I can find it.

I would like to run the entire FR-42 from Bartlett to Horseshoe

Dam Rd. Don't forget the groceries and plenty of water.

Dan,

I talked to the president of the "U Joint Tool" company you described and
told him that it would be tough to sell his device at even HALF of his
asking price... that the market for such a tool wouldn't bear what he is
trying to charge. I believe the best price I could get out of them was
about $220 or so... still more than TWICE what I'd be willing to pay.

I have the Harbor Freight tool and while it is extremely inexpensive and
very rough around the edges; it gets the job done... although not nearly as
well as the vice I have mounted to my rear bumper <grin>.

I'd highly recommend the Harbor Freight tool... you'll love it and it even
works on ball joints!

Yes it does, and it should be able to do the ball joints too. I've used
mine on every u-joint on my TJ so I can say it does all of them just fine.

According to David it wasn't him that I saw today. Who else has a
chili pepper red TJ with black soft top and 35's?
I passed you on the 101 in Tempe/Scottsdale this morning and again
this afternoon.
Here is a big jeep wave!

Les
