Well the palet just got delivered at my house. Strapped to it was my
shiny new Dana 44 with Super 44 axles and an OX locker. Also with it
were my new lower gears for the front end. Unfortunately, it will be
a week to 10 days before my Dana 30 ox gets here b/c it is on
backorder. Any way, as you can all imagine I am quite excited over my
new mods and can't wait to install everything and get her out on the
trails.
So start planning now to attend the big axle swap wrenching party.
Chris and Joe, have we set a date and driveway yet?

P.S. - now I really need those pics and/or tips on installing the ox
cables and shifters.

Hello All,

Mike Acuna is leading a FR-42 trail run on Saturday, February 16, 2002.

When: Saturday February 16.
Where: Bartlett Lake pay station 10:00am. Start at about 10:15am.
Rating: 3.0+
Length: 3-4 hours
CB Channel: 4

Hopefully someone who has ran this entire run will show and lead the way.

I have made the run from Indian Springs Wash back into the

Verde and seen where FR-42 crossed Indian Springs. I'm not

exactley sure of the starting spot, but I think I can find it.

I would like to run the entire FR-42 from Bartlett to Horseshoe

Dam Rd.

Boy, the grapevine is FAST............... yes, the event as a "competition" has been cancelled due to BLM mucking around getting the permit approved and putting "stipulations" in place that were above the line etc etc. Part of the reason was we did not receive the support from our local rock crawlers to make this event a spectacular event.

The Arizona Rock Crawlers are planning a campout this weekend and will be doing "rock crawling" for fun and exhibition.......... EVERYONE is invited to join in.

Well after having the jeep down for almost a month, it's finally
functional again! I built a flat skidplate, new tranny mount, and
new front/rear bumpers, put the spare in the tub on a new rack,
installed an OR-Fab cage...and the Teraflex long-arms are FINALLY
on. Was told the first week of Jan they would ship within a
week....they actually shipped the first week in Feb, guess they
forgot to mention that minor detail. Also cut the front fenders
under the hoodline and built new hood supports...so no more fenders
at all. All that's left is to get an alignment, grind the rest of the
welds off the frame from the old brackets and put in a new starter.
Next up is 4" springs, build some long uppers and get some bigger
meats....it sucks when 33s start to look small!

Subject: Death Wobble with Leaf Springs

OK!!!! I just finished my full width axle swap (D44 from Chevy half ton up
front) and I have death wobble starting around 35 mph. I figure a LOT of you
have coil springs and are VERY familiar with what it took to get rid of
yours. I need some advice as to what might be causing it. Here is all of
the information I can think to give:

1) Caster is around 6-7 degrees right now.
2) Spring over set up
3) Tires are 35X15.50 TSL/SX's that were taken from a truck that was in an
accident. Bent wheel??????
4) All lug nuts are tight.
5) Ball joints are original from axle the first time. I did not change them
out as they "seemed" ok.
6) High clearance steering
7) Toe setting may be a bit "snow plow" right now. I tried to eye ball it
as I didn't have another to measure last night. Should be close.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm wanting to say that it is the fact that I
have a good deal of caster (should be around 2 degrees for this setup) and
that the wheels and tires could be totally messed up such as bent and large
flat spots.

Who is it that works at the alignment shop? I would like to bounce some
questions off of you too.

TIA to everyone. I'm close................

John,

I enjoyed last years BBQ a lot too. I know last BBQ I was one of the last few to leave and we had quite a bit of chips and dogs left over. I do have one idea for the next one to help avoid this.

I could put together a simple spread sheet to track what food items people will be bringing. As Jeepers are signing up for the BBQ they could send me and e-mail (maybe with "Food 4 BBQ" in the subject box) and I will track the information. I would also send out a few updates as the list grows to let the group know if we have 30 bags of chips and 1 dozen hamburgers.

Also, just as a heads-ups for the group, my e-mail will be changing. My new e-mail will be mmckeon5cox.net.

Subject: where is the flex?

I recently did a lift on my rig, 2 inches of shackle lift (heavy duty
shackles with crossbar support) plus 2 inches of spring lift. I changed
shocks at the same time to rancho's of suitable length. I've lost a lot of
the flex that I used to have and it's hurting me on the trail. Sway bar is
removed front and rear, same as it was before the lift. Pre-lift shackles
were horrible thin and wimpy, they twisted while steering and caused bad
handling. This is now cured, but my ride is a lot less flexy :-(

Friends have told me that this is common when lifting, they say it's
because of spring twist mostly. What is the answer? I've heard that
revolving (and rotating) shackles are pretty much the way to go, but at
around $400/set over here compared to $50/ set for the shackles I bought
it's hard to justify. I'm running the original rubber bushings, reason
being that I figure poly bushings would just exacerbate the problem. Are
there any easy(or easier) ways to get my flex back?

Thanks,

have a '98 Grand Cherokee Laredo, v85.9l, 33', 4"lift,

I usually hit the trail alone with my wife...
Second...when I hit around 50-60mph, the front end of

Check the U-bolts, and make sure they're tight. I've had death wobble
on two different Jeeps that were both caused by loose U-bolts. (I've
found they tend to stretch a bit over time.) That may or may not be
your problem, but it's easy to check and fix.
