Scott Kruise and I decided to hit a couple of junkyards in search of
Ford 8.8 Disk Brake Rear off a Ford Explorer. We happened to come
along a 98 Explorer with a limited slip and 3.73 Gears. The real
score was the price $98.00 !!!!. I have just had the rotors turned
and need to start figuring out the cost and labor involved in
getting it to work with my 4cyl TJ. The place we got it from was
Arizona Auto Pull-N-Save. the number is (602) 353-1826. I noticed
they had some others that were the drum brake kind. If anybody is
interested. By the way -Thanks Scott for helping me pull a axle with
hand tools and doing it under an hour flat with no jack........ :)

Checker charged me $12 to turn two front rotors, pads were $35 if
you actually NEED them, and it took me 20 minutes to pull both
rotors, 1 hour turning them at checker (busy weekend so I dropped
them off) and then another 20 to put them on. -Rob

I came across one of their training runs 3 weeks ago on a trail
around the Mt. Ord area. Stopped and chatted with the instructor and
his class. Instructor was in a Range Rover, the class had various
non descript SUV type things. I think I detected some Jeep envy ;)

Hello, I'm new to the group, and I'd like to do a fairly easy first
tun this weekend. I've only done one trail up till now, and that was
under the very watchful eyes of someone with a vested interest in my
Jeep. I'm on my own now, and I'd like to start with something easy.
I'm not quite stock, but I'm not ready to do something like H2H,
either. Any help would be greatly appreciated...I'm also interested
in learning maintenance stuff, and I'm located in the NW valley, if
there's anyone in that area willing to teach me. Thanks!

Well if that fr-42 run does happen, you should go on that one. It's a
good soft run.

You may want to try the Coves at Saguaro Lake run on Sat. Mainly
sandy washes and dirt hills that vary in difficulty.

Try the Coves run Saturday if enough people sign up. It's not really a trail more of a play area and a good place to try your skills on various obstacles. Not much in the way of rock crawling but plenty of hill climbs, sand and off-camber stuff.

Subject: RE: Re: Ford 9"

I knew that. I do not consider that much of a weakness when you compare it
to a D44 it is still bigger. The other weakness and the thing that makes the
Ford 9" so strong is you loose the third pinion bearing on the HP. Again in
a Jeep that weighs only 4Klbs I do not see that as a big weakness. I am not
running an engine that pushes 500hp either. I am only putting out about
250hp.

Randy,
ive been to currie a couple times with questions about their hp 9".
they told me they dont use the 9" gears in them. they use the 8.8" gears.
this is the only weakness i know of. Joey

Boy, the grapevine is FAST............... yes, the event as a "competition" has been cancelled due to BLM mucking around getting the permit approved and putting "stipulations" in place that were above the line etc etc. Part of the reason was we did not receive the support from our local rock crawlers to make this event a spectacular event.

The Arizona Rock Crawlers are planning a campout this weekend and will be doing "rock crawling" for fun and exhibition.......... EVERYONE is invited to join in.

Been wanting to do something along the same lines with my wife, but I can never get her comfortable enough to drive. I'm sure their are JeepChix out there with husbands who can't drive, too.

Another trail, easy but more interesting than a dirt road, is Bulldog Canyon.

We could call this the "Spousal Abuse Run", for what our Jeeps may have to put up with from the new drivers!

Subject: New trail idea..

Hello,
So here's my new idea, but I want your feedback before I post this as an
official run. We travel on camp creek road rated difficulty 1 then take
bloody basin road difficulty 2 back to the I-17 freeway. its 52 miles of dirt
road. I know your thinking that its way too easy, but the catch is.. we let
our wives, and girlfriends do the driving. that's right guys, we kick it in
the passanger seat and try really hard no to help them drive.. I know that
camp creek road has a large hill that you have to climb but the road is
smooth for the most part. the bloody basin trail I have not been on so I
don't really know. I can go scout the area before hand if needed. let me know
your thoughts. the difficulty scale I'm using is based on 1-10 points. if you
have the Arizona backroad adventures book, its trails #27 and #30. they rated
table mesa road a 5 and the ck backroad is rated a 6. so a 1 and 2 is total
cake.

I agree 100%, you can 't go wrong with Dan. He is great and his
products are unmatched. One side has covered up some bad body damage
and the other side just protected me from some more bad damage. I
got mine with the holes cut for flush tail lamps and smooth so I
could paint them to match my Jeep. Most people don't even know that
they are there. The best prices products AND service. You won't be
disappointed.
