I received the following email from the Gilbert Town Manger's Office. I plan to contact them for more information but I thought I'd post this here to see how much interest there might be amongst the East siders or anyone interested in showing off their junk (doesn't have to be pretty).

I'll post more when I know more.

===========

To all Club Organizers,

The Town of Gilbert is interested in having an event featuring Classic Cars, Off Road Vehicles, Motorcycles and other similar clubs on Saturday, March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day, in Downtown Gilbert. We are working with the local downtown businesses, such as Oregano’s and Joe’s BBQ to coordinate to draw the community to the downtown area. If your organization is interested in participating in this opportunity, please contact me as soon as possible to express your interest.

I'd like to come and watch but my rig is way too stock to show off I thinks...

No, any rig, stock to buggy, is fine. Folks like to see the differences and how mild/wild they can be modded for different uses.

If you go you have to show ;)

Sounds like it would be an AWESOME opportunity for a M&G and to have the club make a good presence!

I am interested.

It'd be great to see your Willy's there, Tom. It'd be a crowd favorite amongst the other Jeeps, imo.

Latest correspondence..

Lisa,

The Arizona Virtual Jeep Club (AZVJC) is interested in participating in your planned car show.

I have posted your email to our club site to see what level of participation we might expect. We have been active in every Loop 202 opening ceremony since the beginning and we can normally count on at least 5-10 vehicles attending. I won't know for sure until folks respond.

Please forward any additional information you have including location, times, space available, space limitations, etc. when available.

We are looking forward to this event.

Matt

We are in the early logistical planning stages and much of the “space” availability will depend on the response we get from various clubs. We very much welcome your participation. I will keep you informed as the planning continues. Thank you for your participation. We believe this will be a great event for all participants

Let her know that we can be "creative" with our parking, allowing us to fit ~2X as many vehicles into the same amount of space as any other car club! ;-)

I'll wait until I know more and see how much space they allot vs how much interest from club members :) Other shows have never had any problems with our creative parking - as long as we don't flop onto some guys mint vintage Shelby Mustang or something :D

I received an update today...

The car show will be March 17th, probably from 10am-Noon. We are working with the local downtown restaurants and businesses to coordinate everything. We could handle up to 6 or 8 vehicles probably. Let me know how things are going on your end.

My response...

Hi Lisa,

We've had at least a dozen positive responses so far, so filling 6-8 spots should be no problem. The sooner we have details the better as folks usually like to plan their schedules (trail runs, car shows, etc) well in advance.

Being offroad vehicles, we can also likely fit more than 6-8 vehicles within 6-8 parking spaces with some "creative" parking. When we attend these shows we typically park in a way to display our vehicles capabilities (eg, one Jeep parks with it's wheels atop another Jeeps wheels, or on a boulder, etc.) which is always a crowd pleaser. Here is an example from the Loop 202 opening...

http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/7530/santan0606002600x4006gk.jpg

If possible details on the actual location/parking lot area would be helpful so I can scout the location and suggest an area which may benefit our group as well as the overall car show display (eg a corner of the lot).

Thanks again for having us. We look forward to the show!

Latest update from the organizers...

3/13/07: The location is the park and ride lot just north of Oregano?s at the NWC of Vaughn and Gilbert Rd. I would like vehicles to arrive by 9-9:15 am. Your members will enter the lot off of Vaughn Ave., at the southwest entrance to the park & ride lot. We will have a check-in system, but it will be free flow as this is our first show. You can bring up to 8 or so vehicles.

I posted the flyer for the Gilbert Car/Jeep/Bike show this Saturday.

http://tinyurl.com/yt94wd

There are still one or two spots open for anyone interested.
The more modified your rig the better Sign up here (limit 8 due to limited number or spaces allocated to us)...

http://www.sosnws.com/OldSite/Trips/View.asp?T=4262

Even if you don't show your rig, feel free to stop by and say hello.

Thanks, Tom

It'd be a long drive down from Flag for a 2 hour show anyway :)

So far, the signup lists includes...

Definites include..

Matt OBrien - built CJ
Tom (tallgaeir) - built CJ
Tom Jacobson - built YJ
Mike Baney - built TJ
Mike Fissel - SOA Scrambler
Mike Johnson - TJ (unsure of mods)
Lewis Reynolds - XJ (unsure of mods)
Brandon Pfeiffer - (no rig info listed)

Matt Homan (Gasman) has a built XJ and is checking his schedule to see if he can make it.

That's 9 so I guess I'd better cap it so we don't have too many show up and have to turn anyone away (they only gave us 8 spaces). I updated the signup page that we've reached our limit unless anyone cancels.

I added you above, Tom. You have to be logged into the VJC website to signup for runs.
Looking forward to seeing that little CJ of yours again :)

btw, unsure if any trailer parking so you might want to just drive over.

Matt, Do you still have me on that list?

When I knew our cap was 8 I posted the link so folks could sign up, but I never saw your name added.
I know Mike Fissel can't make (although his name still says Definite) and Matt Homan added his name.
Lewis Reynolds is waiting to find out about a Roger Krause memorial run (?) on Saturday and if that happens he won't be joining us so that *could* free up one more spot.

If you want to come down and we end up with 9 I'm sure we can squeeze your rig in with some "creative" parking :)

For what it's worth, here's the latest email from Lisa...

We are just having the car and motorcycle show this year. We should probably leave it at 8 attendees. Not all the clubs have given me firm counts yet as you have, which I tremendously appreciate. I am leaving room so vehicles can park at different angles and/or make room for people to walk around the vehicles.

See you Saturday!

One could interpret this as we may have more room than simply 8 parking spots. If so, fitting 9, especially with tire climbing, etc) should be doable. If she tells us absolute max of 8 then we can draw straws to see who leaves.

So now we have...

Definites include..

Matt OBrien - built CJ
Tom (tallgaeir) - built CJ
Tom Jacobson - built YJ
Matt Homan (Gasman) built XJ
Mike Baney - built TJ
Jason - built TJ
Brandon Pfeiffer - lifted Rubicon Unlimited
Mike Johnson - TJ (unsure of mods)
Lewis Reynolds - XJ (unsure of mods) (may cancel)

I can make it if there is space. If someone wants to back out I will be there for sure.

95 XJ. Mods 4.5" lift, 33" tires, bumpers, cb, hi lift, cutting, dents, scrapes. I probably could break a taillight if that interests the crowd. Definately will stack the rig too.

Todd, I sent you an email. We do have 8 (actually 9 or 10) so I'll let you decide what you want to do. If you show up we can try to squeeze you in with "creative parking" :)

I'm not sure what they have in the way of tow rig/tralier parking down there.

Thanks to all who showed up today. Lisa said she really appreciated our involvment and the Jeeps/rigs we and the Dust Devils brought were real crowd pleasers! I didn't speak with him, but Gilbert's Mayor Berman showed up and spent some time talking with folks.

Almost forgot...I asked Lisa if she was involved with the Gilbert Days Parade. She is and she'd be happy to have us participate the next time. She's going to send me a reminder later in the year. When she does, I'll post up and see if anyone is interested in running their Jeeps in the parade.

Here are a few pics I took. Feel free to post up any you may have taken...

Just got home. Had a great time, nice to meet a bunch of you. Some really nice rigs out there. Next year atleast we should get a bigger area to set up in and can bring more jeeps. Unfortunatly, forgot my camera so I didn't get any pics.

I was wondering what was going on there. I cruised by on the way back from True Value getting some axle hardware and saw the Jeeps and blow up motorcycle.
