View Full Version : Behavior and manorisms on the trail

Today we went out to cottonwood rd. and through the Upper Axel area to test out the new lift. The trip was awesome, however some of the people on the trail are real jerks. Before I go on I want to say that 98% of the folks on the trail were friendly and curtious when passing/being passed. 99% of those people were in groups (quads, 4x4's, etc.). But there are some real @$$ hats out there who think its a race to the finish and where the trail gets narrow you can be damn sure they'll be on your butt and trying to pass. One TJ nearly ran us off the road spraying dust and debris in our face and to my amazement they were parents with little kids in the back. :( Not only is this dangerous, its not fun to be around. Has anyone else noticed this kind of crap? Sorry for the vent I was a bit steamed after it happend.

I'm guessing you mean either Upper Ajax or Upper Woodpecker.
That is certainly NOT the norm, Xan, but unfortunately it does happen occasionally, but normally it's the bikes or quads that like to go fast. Sounds like this happened on a road, versus a trail/wash? Was the TJ in question running any club stickers (hopefully not AZVJC). Was it even lifted/built?
It may have been someone who is not affiliated with any clubs/groups and just out there mimicking what they see on the TV commercials.

I agree with what Matt said! For the most part, members of local clubs are generally pretty courteous on the trails/roads. There are always going to be the people out there that don't have a clue what they are doing and are going to seriously hurt someone. The most we can do is to educate the others.

Yes I totally agree. And no, this idiot TJ was not part of any group, atleast from what I can see. I'm pretty polite when it comes to letting others go first but when their rude I could give a crap. One CJ also passed up like they were on the great race.

I think it's dangerous to get going too fast even on the roads to the trail. Lots of times quads and dirt bikes come out of no where around a bend, and you are in jeopardy of gettin hurt.

We had a little incedent this weekend that ticked me off as well. I had just run the first obstacle on what I think has been identified as Woody's wash and had gotten out to spot the second jeep when 3 guys showed up to watch. After a few minutes I looked back and this guy is crawling around under my jeep. I asked him if he had any questions and he was curious as to what my bam bar was for. I started to explain to him that Iam running a lot of Hp and was getting so much spring wrap that I was shearing off my centering pins. He then proceeded to bag on my jeep saying that the motor didn't sound like it had any power, and that he raced cars and high horsepower motors always have big cams yada, yada, yada. So after a few minutes of trying to explain to this bozo that it was built for huge torque at low rpms and not a race motor, and him telling me I don't know what Iam talking about I told him the get the f*** away from my jeep! I probably shouldn't have lost my temper but this guy was picking on my baby and pushing all my buttons. I can't figure out why anybody would tell someone who had built thier jeep that they know more about it then the builder. Crazy stuff.
DOH!!!! So where was his bad AXX rig at ??? Oh that's right he walked in.. haha!! Your Commando Rocks Pierre !!!

Some people just don't "get it". There's always the know it all type who tries to impress everyone with their knowledge on any given subject. I just try to ignore them, but being Irish, I can lose my temper at times.
btw, any 30 year old Jeep, regardless of model, is more than welcome on the CJ run :)

you can order them from the site and get them delievered to where you are located at, or they sell them at some of the local off road shops around like 4wheelers.

To add my experience:
Just yesterday was on a narrow part the Pima trail (Wild West Jeep Tours, Dixiletta wash) with 5 other Jeeps when a 4 ATVs decided they wanted to pass... too impatient to wait for wide portion they tore their own trails throwing rocks and plant pieces everywhere:mad:   . Made a great showing for the tourists, whish I could run them into the ground, or at least tell them what I thought of them, but had to be "professional"

EFF that!! one thing i cant stand is people telling you what you SHOULD do or how YOU SHOULD build your crap. If you wanted THEIR rig.. youd buy it. i cant stand that crap. People need to learn when to shut their damn mouths!! Im glad you told the dude off
Reminds me of the other day in upper sycamore. Bunch of yahoos running around on a trail hitting other jeeps with theirs and then peeling out in the washes throwing dirt all over the guys behind them Freakin HOOLIGANS!!
Goofing around is all fine and dandy so long as it only affects the group you know well enough to have them be comfortable with it. When it affects random people not in your group its gone too far. We know our tendencies and are fairly predictable within our group. And of course we never have ALCOHOL involved so thats a big difference. we see so many people run around on quads and bikes with coolers of beer or even holding one in their hand

I was wheeling with Pierre that day, and the funny part of this story is that right before our famed wannabe 4x maniac begins bagging on the Pierre's Jeep, Pierre had just drove up the first waterfall like it wasn't even there.
By the way if that is losing your temper Pierre, I seriously need some anger management instruction.

Just about. I wanted to get up their for the snow run but just didn't make it. I did get my axle wrap problem solved, as well installed hydralic assist steering. Sure makes it easier to turn in the rocks. I've been thinking next time I come up we should push on and explore the upper reaches. I still want to get up to the cracks with you guys as well.

Firstly, I don't do well with trail yahoos. I've been known to "drift" when someone tries to pass like I'm sitting still (with a lifted, leaf-sprung SUA CJ... the speed down the rough roads nearly IS sitting still). You should see the faces on folks experiencing my own little bit of justice when going on the shelf road up to CK
If someone had done the cut in and hit my rig, they'd still be out there in the desert, but you'd never find them.
If a buddy taps my rig, it's all good... I'll take out his radiator at the earliest possible chance. no problem ;)
Some arse starts telling me that my rig ain't this or that, when i biult it myself, I'll give him a close up of my tire treads... make sure he gets a real eyefull so he'll know better next time.
I don't mind trail arseholes... that much. :grrr:

I drove 80 miles one way to go wheeling last weekend with four other Jeeps. I saw only two quad's (hunters) and no other Jeeps. Lets face it, if you want to get away from it all, you will have to go further out away from the city. Man was it quite when we would stop and shut the engines down. Good times.
