My 06 TJ speedo is adjusted by swapping the gear in the transfer case, but a friends 97 is different, how can that be adjusted to compensate for the gear and tire changes.

That's weird... My 97 (The original BRUZR) had the speedo gear in the T/C...

I got a gear at 4 wheel parts and we pulled the bolt unpluged the wire and twisted out the unit from the SYE and it didn't have a gear and I did not feel one in the hold. There was another piece there, maybe we didn't take enough off, have to look again, it was getting late by that time!!!

Is it one of those "Super Short" SYEs? If so, they use some kind of ring and a sensor...

JB Conversions says, "Replaces the plastic gear speedometer assembly with an electronic sensor and tone ring. "

Don't think so, but I will look at it again. He just bought the Jeep so we are still getting used to what it has, previous owner listed it as a ProComp Tail shaft adapter and a Rubicon Express rear CV shaft

Well my 98 has a unit that sends a pulse to the spedometer computer. Superlift truespeed computer splices into the system and you can adjust for tire size and ring gear changes and get your speedo right on. Also your transmission will shift at the correct speeds again.

The 97 is just a plug in gear unless someone has modified it with an after market
one.
