Every time I log in I have to type my login and password twice. The first time it goes to the screen that says "Thank-you for logging in dragonfly" then it immediately goes back to the login screen. This has been happening for a month or two...WHAT'S UP?
Thanks...

Joe is probably going to want to know how many people are having this problem, if there is any certain time of the day it happens, etc. All of this information will help him determine what the problem might be, and if it is a problem with the site itself, or something else.

My acct usually stays logged in unless I logout or reboot. I logged out to test it and just logged back in and only had to do so once.
Seems like it might be a client browser issue moreso than something to do with this site.
edit: PC - Firefox on XP Home
Thinkpad - Firefox on XP Pro

...also he probably would want to know the browser you're using. With the current Firefox at home on XP I don't experience this problem nor do I on a UNIX platform with Firefox 1.5.04 at the office.

I've never had this problem before, it just started the last month or two, it happens every time I log in, I haven't changed anything on my computer....:(

I don't see any bugs reported on vBulletin's customer site... you may want to try using the "remember me" setting which will set a cookie on your system. You may also try using a different browser... I've tried internet explorer, apple safari, and firefox and all work perfectly on three different systems (unix, Mac OSX, and winblowz)
Whatever the problem is, it isn't terribly widespread.

This happends to me as well. All times of the day, with IE 7 at home, along with IE 6 at work. Every time, never any exceptions. I don't have any 'remember me' settings established. I don't plan to either..
Current Workaround:
Login once. Right click on the page and select refresh. This gets you in...

Click remember me. Fixed.
**** if you clean your cookies alot (like I do), I find myself constantly going through the log in phase.

Those of you who are having problems logging in:
MAKE SURE YOU SET YOUR BROWSER SO THAT IT DOES NOT CACHE THE FORUM!
Make sure the page is reloaded EVERY TIME you visit the forum.

I web wheel on a bunch of different forums, with different browsers. This is the only place where I have a problem. I don't think that it is a client problem...

Given the relatively small handful of folks having this issue (relative to the almost 3,000 people active on the site), I'm guessing it is indeed a client problem. That being said... and since I don't know what the problem is for sure... the issue certainly could be with the forum.

For those of you who refresh and are having problems, make sure you do a full refresh (Ctrl + F5). This will reload the entire page instead of the "refresh button" that just reloads the cache files.
Joe: I do think its a problem related to this forum, I surf alot of other forums and have never had this problem either.

This may be stemming from an olllld setup parameter/bug that vBulletin never fixed.
It has to do with having private forums visible to all.
Joe, try setting the sponsor's forum to not be visible to anyone but those that have access and see if this rids the multiple-login problem.
Additionally, if the server does not respond with the proper response in time, then the software can see it as a failed login attempt. I'd be interested in seeing a log of forum and connection activity (troughput, header requests, logged in users, page requests, database activity, etc.) when this phenom is happening. Since I understand it that the forum is hosted on a box at your home, this interaction could be due to latency introduced at the connection level. If the transaction between the server, database and client browser doesn't ack in time, the transaction could time out and cause a failed login. The refresh that gained login mentioned earlier supports this theory, as the cookie is set/ cahce active and a resubmit of credentials from the client made it within the time frame needed to properly authenticate.
Just some things to look in to. :)

Joe did reset permissions, maybe it was having issues with its own cookies. Keep an eye on it and make note of your steps and environment to post it here later if need be.

It looks like they setup the link to the forum incorrectly. I don't know who is even responsible for the old site anymore... anyone know the email address of the admin for hte old site? I'll let them know to fix the link.
