Daniel is stuck on upper Raw Deal with a busted upper track bar mount.

Jamie just called me and asked me to post up. They are going to attemp to use straps to get him secure so he can turn. If anyone has an on-board welder or can assist please PM me and I can contact the group.

You know this I am sure, but two or three batteries, a few sets of good jumper cables and some stick is all you really need if you're going to burn the bracket out there.

I have stock track bars complete with the TRE and bushings if you find that is what is needed.

Just got back, they got him strapped up enough to keep the trackbar from moving and towed him up to the top of the trail. Should be able to get on a trailer now and get home.

Good Luck Daniel! Sucks your wife had to be there to see you break this time:eek: :D

Barry,

That was suggested to me but I was not in a position to try something like that before. I'd rather learn the advanced "MacGuyver" stuff in a backyard first. I helped with everything I could but wasn't comfortable with doing that and I don't know if anyone else was. Besides that I don't think anyone had wire of any sort that would be good enough for it.

Daniel,

Whenever is fine or the next time I see you. Don't forget two of the other straps were from Walter and.... the guy you got stuck in the big air hole. :D I was the yellow one. :D

The battery idea had been discussed, briefly. No one was comfortable doing it and no welding rod or heavy wire was available. What would be cool is to have a Workshop of sorts using batteries to do this, and possibly other on the trail fixes. There were plenty of batteries there to blow a hole in the frame. I had done it many years ago with 2 batteries, jumper cables and a metal clothes hangar for a rod. If you were to carry some rod and steel in with your other tools you would be set. It would be nice to actually try welding this way on an old frame to get a feel for it in a controlled setting and not learn while on the trail.
This was my first trip with AZVJC and it was a blast.
Thanks Walter

Walter, that's a terrific idea if anyone is down for throwing a MacGyver party. :D

The usual suspects, do you wanna throw it? :D

Glad you had a blast too Walter.

I'd like to give this McGuyver welding a try! I think I'm gona pick up a few welding rods for the tool box!

If you have any basic welding experience, it's pretty simple... I keep half dozen 6013 rods (in a sealed 3/4" piece of PVC), a pair of welding goggles, and jumper cables in my tool box ALWAYS, for just such needs... In my years of playing, it's come in pretty handy a "few" times.:o

Though it's harder on the battery, and you need to let it cool more between welds, I've never used more than a single battery...;)

PS: Using unshielded wire (coathanger) will result in LOTS of porosity which will have to be ground out and repaired later, ... But like the saying goes... any port in a storm...:D

Yep, the only choice I had at the time was a metal clothes hangar or a plastic one. I just couldn't get the plasic one to arc.:D

next time you have no wire a few nickels just might get you off the trail and maybe home..just a little farmboy tech.

i carry 6013 and 7018 rod with me all the time. i run dual batts so it works perfect. welded a couple times with batts and jumper cables. but then again ive have been stick welding for 6 years and welding in general for 7. and i weld for a living. its the cheapest welder per say to carry but the way to go is the premier welder or ready welder(spool gun wire feeders). yes that mount was thoroughly ripped clean off the frame. shouldnt happen again though its pretty beefed up now.

I am glad I could help! That is awsome that Chris (Lostoffroad) was able to get you taken care of so quickly. That was a bad break and I have never seen anything like it before. That looks like a very strong fix, great work Chris!

Did you disconnect and remove the batteries before using them or use them while mounted in the Jeep?
