Sharon and I ran away from home on Christmas day, we took the back way up to Sedona through Yarnell and Prescott. Couldn't have been a better day for it, and we pretty much had the road to ourselves after we turned off 93 and onto 89 North of Wickenburg. Much better than I-17.
It took about three hours to get there but the last 15 miles coming into Prescott is a blast! Getting through Prescott was a little confusing, alot of new roads, and the old ones don't look the same.
We stayed at the Amara resort in the downtown area, nice place, dinner was awsome.
The next morning we met Rich (in the creek) and Kathy at the Coffeepot and had a great breakfast, then took off on a secret mission to the top of Robbers roost trail. There is a flagstone quarry at the top, we stopped just below there, going any further would have destroyed the bushes that had overgrown the trail. Here is where we stopped;

The Robbers roost trail is named after a large red rock that you can see prominently behind Rich's Jeep here;

There are some great camping spots on a side road that we checked out, we want to come back with Grosser, ( our GMC Sierra 4x4) and scout that rock for climbing routes. Here is one of the campsites we found;

After we got out of there we ran "Outlaw", an easy 2.5 trail over to "Greasy Spoon" which might be a 3.0 because of the canyon descent and climbing back out, which was the hardest part of the trail. No real challenges for our rigs, but the rented Grand Cherokee that we met as we were leaving might have had a bit of trouble.... Here is Rich coming down Greasy Spoon;

There was some scattered snow remaining in the sheltered spots;

But nothing to get excited about, then we found the BIG obstacle! Rich almost turned around when he saw it, but since I had already made it through, he tackled it like a real sport;

He didn't admit it, but I think he might have locked up to get through, naturally I didn't have to since I had a Rubicon....
After making it through, we decided we had had enough fun for the day and headed back to Sedona. No trip to Sedona is complete without visiting Nena, so we stopped at Farabee Jeep rental to check on her "development". She looks about ripe here, three weeks from hatching;

Nena is a great gal, and is always ready to talk Jeep or suggest a good trail in the area. She turned us onto Robbers roost on our last trip up there and we enjoyed dinner with her and her husband Dave. You can guess what he has been up to since then...
All in all a great escape, we left Wednesday morning and had the road out to I-17 all to ourselves, :eek: but the highway was a white knuckle event until we got off at the 101. HYJAK is a handfull at 75 mph!
