waiting for a 231 to show up and can I run the existing one safely without a chain?

I know I wont have 4 wheel drive but the chain is stretched so badly it is slapping against the housing when you dirve and worried about it jumping teeth and getting lodged and blowing the case apart.:eek:

What would happen if i just remove the chain and drove it?:confused:

It would be easier to pull the front drive shaft than split the case. run in 2 hi and should be fine.
