I have read and thought I understood the otherwise simple steps in installing lockright locker in my dana 30. After draining all the fluid, I came about the first challenge: Removing the pinion shaft retaining pin. I used nails, drill bits and other steel piece around the house and still no success. Needless to say, I am still at that same levelhttp://www.virtualjeepclub.com/images/smilies/mad.gif
. I looked forward in anticipation of the next challenge and it appears that my pinion shaft will not come out, as it might interfer with the ring gearhttp://www.virtualjeepclub.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
:(. I have no experience in removing the gear carier and I am afraid it might require gear alignment.http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
I am in desperate need of help, if anyone want to offer any assistance. I am off for the next week and would like to have my TJ back on the road soon. Anyone out there, Burgers and Beers on me as a token of my appreciation.

Definately gonna need a punch to get that out! or a small metal dowel rod to fit in. just removing the ring gear will not requiring it to be set up. All that set up comes from pinion depth anyway :D I had to take my ring off to get the pin out. just make sure you locktite it back on when youre done using a circular pattern like when you put a tire back on a car.
What day is best for you? I can help out mid mornings this week for a few hours before work. Maybe thursday night if you havent gotten it done by then.

I am available all day tuesday (12/26) until Sunday. I will purchase a punch in the AM and I hope NAPA or one of those places have them. Is there a particular size I should be requesting?
SHould you decide to come by and provide coaching, let me know and I'give you directions. I am in North Phoenix, in the lookout mountain area ( slightly northeast of Moon Valley).

no problem. ill see what i can do for either wednesday morning or thursday night. Might have some unconfirmed plans for tomorrow. Either way im sure we can get it done. PM Frenchchili and see if he wants to attend either day. hes decently experienced in locker installs.
THIS WILL HELP TOO :D (http://www.4x4xplor.com/aussielocker.html)
Not sure on the punch size but my suggestion would be to pull the diff out.and bring it with :D try stickin a few drill bits down in there and see which fits. I assume you have the axles out already? Make sure that you use a 12pt socket on the axle ends and not try and use a 6point on it. It WILL strip!
If you take the carrier out two things:
Remember the orientation of the bearing caps. Side to side and top to bottom. these are the two strap like pieces held in place with two bolts on each end of the carrier.
And you MIGHT need to pry the carrier out. If it will not slide out try this. Place some soft material under the diff in case it pops out and you cannot catch it before it hits the ground. this will save you a headache for sure if you hit the ring/bearings/races. But slide a piece of strong rope/strap through the carrier and tie it off so its looped through then use a large prybar through the loop to help pry it out. It should pop out eventually :D
When you hit napa, buy a can of bearing grease/assembly lube. The thick grease you lube bearings with. it will help A LOT with putting the locker together. I think thats it for now. Ill look for the punch size.

After the install, both wheel spun in the same direction. I closed everything up and filled her up with some slime. however, when I took her out for a spin, I could not turn the corner. Those tires where locked and never unlocked. I hope I did something wrong, because I was not expecting it to be that tough to turn. IN fact I could hear the tires chirp as I took the turn. I am not sure what to think. Any suggestions? I am all ears.
