Well , the train has left the station, and hold on, Scottsdale, in the next few years is set to loose its age old look and moniker, "the west most western town", will slowly ride off into the sun set. The waterfront project has and will change the face of the western town, and it will slowly progress south thru old town, many mega projects are planned that will show up in the next couple years, these will need space and the only space is old town,
They tried to shut down my friends bar The Coachouse at Goldwater and Indian school several years ago, he fought and won, but again they'll come after his location, its just a matter of time.
I'll bet Ole Herb is rolling over in his grave, wondering what the h000 the planners are doing to the town he worked so hard to put on the map.
Those of us that have been here a couple days or so, can tell of the changes in jsut the last 10 years, it is only the beginning.
Anyway, just though I would share that, enjoy the WESTS MOST WESTERN TOWN while you can, by 2015 it'll be gone. Heck maybe we all will
merry christmas

Living here in Scottsdale for the past couple of years I have come to the conclusion that this is the most corrupt city government I have ever seen.

My wife and I knew squat about the Phoenix area when we moved here and other than a change of planes or stopping in at a Flying J enroute with a easterly or westerly destination neither of us had spent any time here.

Turns out I had some friends who lived here, some in Phoenix and some in Scottsdale. We looked them up and all said Scottsdale was the place to be so we began our search here. We found a place of course, bought it and moved in.

We are here and here we shall stay IN SPITE of Scottsdale government and so many of the JERKS that live here!

I live and work here and I for the most part like the way the city is changing. I dont like how with that change comes overcrowding in the scottsdale rd/camelback area. But from a hotel standpoint it really has helped us bring more peopel to the area with more beign offered (ie restaurants and activities). That being said i spent the better part of my teenage years in Wickenburg and really enjoyed the western feel to the town which also is losing its way. I guess thats the hardest part about being a place that people want to be. Keeping your image during growth without sacrificing the foundations of your town is the holy grail of urban developement. Scottsdale is a hotbed for new businesses and transplant residents for the same reasons we live here.

We moved down here from Oregon a bit over three years ago. Lots of folks said Scottsdale was "the" place, but we chose to buy in Gilbert on the advice of the bro/sis in law who had lived in both places. We are very glad we did.

Scottsdale is nice. We have friends over there and love to visit, but Gilbert has turned out to be a great investment (not just monetarily) and is a wonderful place to raise the kids. That might be the difference as I see Scottsdale as more of an adult oriented community and Gilbert as more family oriented.

Even the Wests Most Western Town emblem suffered. Someone forgot to register the trademark and somebody else picked up on it. OOOOOps

Don't see Avondale being another Scottsdale. There is no money here. You find too many lower end housing developments - it will be the next Maryvale!

That's a play on statistics - due to the smaller average size of land ownership there are more people who are millionaires in the west valley. The big money is still in Paradise Valley. They're all fighting for the dollars though. Glendale also has some big plans for the area surrounding the stadium.

Sometimes it amazes me how some react.
This is a growing world, and with that comes the need for change and adaptation... evolution, if you will.
Everyone has an option of where they want to live, work and play... for the most part (homeless exclded).
It really boils my oil to hear folks crying and yelling about how progress, of any sort, is ruining things.
As one of my good frinds, Marty Boetel, put it at a land use meeting in N. Scotsdale, in a fight to keep some mountain or whatever from becoming a preserve and closing off access to trails... "The land you all live on today is the land I went wheeling on as a child."
That was in response to folks buying the edging properties in higher-end communities and then forming coalitions to close the land abutting their land so no one else could build behind them... effectively increasing their property values and eliminating the possibility of having to deal with neighbors with a possibly better view :shaking:

Scottsdale hasn't been "Western" in probably 40 years. It's just a facade paid for by tax dollars and deep pockets. While it may _look_ western, it most certainly isn't, hasn't been in a while, and never will be again (save for a nuclear holocaust where CA falls into the ocean).

You need educate the jerks, or at least scare them into moving back to LA where they came from. Tell them to take their BIG sunglasses, their Pomeranian's, and their 3 series Bimmer and GTFO!

I'm only kidding of course...kind of :)
