I ran across the front page of the repulsive today, and couldn't help but see the article about the Immigration issue and some family in Mexico that has a hard time.
I just cannot figure out why the citizens of Arizona would want to read about the hardships of another countries citizens when we have problems right here. How about the repulsive write about the local and or state wide or nation wide issue of a large percentage of elderly not being able to afford persciption drugs. How about the lack of social security benefits for the generations that funded the system for years. Now these are legal citizens who should be benifiting from the program, but a lot of them live in substandard housing, live on diets that consist of things that our pets eat.
It would surprise a lot of people if they only realized how many of these elderly are within minutes of their own home.
Oh I know the folks that live in the New suburbia would be hard pressed to find them, since these people live in the older nieghborhoods and or are rentors having lost their ability to own, but one only needs to make an effort.
Someone on this forum gave a rash about me not being able to post a link to a story, heres one in your back yard, see if you find it.
Its a shame we cant' direct some of the press towards these issues so we can overcome them, help them. Once we resolve this local problem we can do the outward reach if so inclined.
Our elected officials manage to find money for illegal immigrants and allow them on our sytem, but where is the money for the soldiers family, why do many of them live check to check, where is the housing help for those that dont' qualify for base housing.
While it is the giving season, it never ends, everyday, week, month and year is the time to give to those that need, organized religion does a good job of it, with your help.
Don't just adopt a military family for the holidays, check in once in a while after the holidays and see if assistance is required, it usually is, this is not something they would ask for and shouldn't have to.

How about it, if you can't or wont' help, maybe this rant will get you to think about it.
hey ole fat guy spouting after that scotch drink
happy holidays to all

We can't stop 3000 illegal aliens from entering this country daily, but we can spend billions on a war with no hope.

You just don't get it, do you?

People in America have every opportunity to freely choose a better life.

If they don't, then they are just "lazy" and lack the willpower.

Of course, it is different when you live in a country where the rich rule and keep the average harding working citizen under their thumb.

/sarcasm.

OH I get it, I just won't accept it, nor will I roll over, it appears that a lot of citizens are willing to stand by and do nothing, it has to start somewhere, perhaps that place and time will be here, or someplace like this in the near future.
One never knows what the future brings but without help it will bring nothing.
Take a look at the Minutemen movement, it was an idea that has grown to extremely large proportions and has brought a lot of the immigration woes to the forefront, and I would guess it will continue to do so even more in the future with the starting of construction of their symbolic fence in Naco, Arizona.
While some are labeled crackpots, many are citizens just doing something about it.
The attitude of the rich in control and poor me is escapism, IMO, but what the heck I'm just an ole fat guy having three fingers with some branch water.
May the dollar bill smile at you. Woe is me

well it does start somewhere... one way is by volunteering
if there is a cause that you believe in and you have the spare time, dedicate it to that cause
we can all sit around and talk but actions speak louder than words

Actually, escapism is the exact opposite.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escapism

Escapism embodies the desire to divert one's awarness from reality. There is no "attitude" of the rich in control, it is reality. Whether it be corporations or well-to-do artistocrats in government, we live by the rich's rule by and large. Who else has the time and money to invest in public service at the highest levels?

AS far as "poor me", well that is an attitude, but at point do you really want to split hairs on when perception becomes reality? Or vice versa?

Moreover, I don't think my sarcasm was advocating some sort of economic or political fatalism. It is my contention that, on average, men do not wish to live in squaler. Illegal immigration to this country would actually support this view. Because in Mexico, a country truly oppressed by the rich, and corrupt to the core, a chance to flee to the U.S. is escapism! Illegal immigration to this country is the harsh reality of coping with a government, or system that is so entrenched in corruption, only true political revolution will save it.

...but what the heck I'm just a young'n who is bored. ;)

Bored minds have been said to come up with the answers with the correct amount of stimulation.
But what do I know, I;m probably one of another generation that helped create the problem we now have. While the problem has been recognized, we can only hope change will begin somewhere, but it will take some assistance by those that want change, once again it has to start somewhere, it may take years such as the change from what it was to what it is now. But to do nothing is foolish, IMO.
