They are not MOD friendly on Warranty issues!

The front U-joints walloed out the ears on the short shafts on my Jeep..2006 Jeep with 18,000 on it purchased by me from Steve Christy Jeep Tucson Arizona.

Second new car purchased by me from that dealer.

My Jeep is modified and I would never bring it in for warranty work on something my lift or larger tires caused.

Jeep makes the outer shafts weak on there vehicles, and most dealer do not have an issue covering it for replacement on modified vehicles since this issue happens on non modified Jeeps as well.
Here is the 2007 JK with the same issue as mine, He is fixing it on the trail by welding the caps on the ujoints:

The *****hat owner at Steve Christy Jeep voided my warranty and refused to fix my Jeep. (found out this is just a scare tactic)

The issue is the gap in this picture....Its wallowed out the hole the ujoint cap goes in.
Here is a movie of the slop...right click and save:

I covered the Jeep in flyers at the dealer in front of the owner and proceeded to drive around the dealership for an hour, the owner finally came out and flipped me off.

I made a larger sign and protested out front this eve for a couple of hours....its amazing how many people will stop on a busy road to chat with a crazed white guy with a sign.

It makes me feel better to do this....I no longer expect anything from the sh!tstain of a dealer.

Its amazing how many people stop to talk with a crazy man with a sign.

Yeah I was amazed people stopped cars in the street to chat with me.

A cop slowed to read the sign and just waved.

Lots of honks and waves.

One guy used my camera to snap the pic for me.

I was offered coffee and Cigs.

Two high school kids hung out and chatted for about a half hour.

UPDATE

Steve Christy called and ask me to stop protesting in front of the Dealership.

Offered me the warranty work.

I told him that I did not want his dealership working on my Jeep but will accept the parts so I can fix it myself.

After that I will never do business with him again.

It should not have taken me protesting in front of the dealership to get him to do the right thing!

They had to order the parts for the front axle....along with the relay for my intermittent wiper.

Just got off the phone with parts.....Steve Christy does not want me on the property so they are going to deliver them.

WOW! You are right that is a common problem and I am surprised they would not fix it. Especially since your Jeep was drivable. Most of the time the Jeep is not movable and has to be towed in to fix.

Your Jeep looks far from "modded".

you know what way to go!
seriously!
most people would have been like...wow that sucks
but seriously maybe you stopped a few other people from buying from him
sucks when you gotta hit people in their pocketbook to make them do the right thing...
alas, such is the state of the world these days...no one stands behind anything anymore...

Just to be a further pain in their ***, I'd tell them if I'm not allowed on their property to pick them up, they aren't allowed on my property to deliver them and to ship them at their cost, or I'll be back with my signs.

Yeah I agree with Don, your Jeep doesn't look all that modded. Heck mine came more modded then yours from the dealer.

I just don't understand these dealerships and why it's like pulling teeth to get something fixed. I hate going to dealership for warranty work because it seems they spend more time trying to get out of fixing something then actually fixing it.

Dang it! Just fix the dang thing and make the customer happy and spare all the grief!

This is a common problem on all Jeeps. Its part of the game. Very few TJ's (If ANY)that are STOCK do this. A factory warranty is to protect a STOCK vehicle. As for the JK..Well, compare apples to apples, not oranges. (he has 37's!!! ) I dont think that its right protesting like you did, but we do live in america so its your choice. It just amazes me how many people cant take accountability for what they create. Now that you KNOW there is a problem with the "weakness" why dont you buy some Alloy shafts for it??? Or you could just wait, untill the problem comes up again, (and it will) and go through this all over again. Seems kinda redundant to me.

Joe

This happens all the time on stock TJs, especially Rubicons.

I ordered Alloy USA front shafts and they are now on the Jeep....I will have the ones from the dealer as trail spares if I need them.

When I bought my Jeep the dealership was mod friendly and most people I talked to had no issues with warranty work, the dealership has now changed there mind.

Heck I have a 4" lift with 33" tires its not like its in orbit...But even so...most dealers will fix this under warranty no questions asked since it is such a common issue.

Its more about the way the ***** hole owner treated me.

I show up with an appointment 8 Am and the service rep says it will be cover under warranty, I get a call at 4 pm that they will not cover it.

They flat out lied to me.

I just wanted to make sure other people Knew about this dealership and avoided it as I hope others will avoid my headache.

This happens from time to time, they at least should have owned up to this..instaed of wasting your time.

GOOD JOB !!!!

You had the right idea to protest... My sister got screwed in the ***** by a "Buy-here pay-here" lemon one time, she stayed outside the dealership for 2 days and had the news crews come by and interview her.

Peaceful, legal protest is a great idea. As long as you are not breaking any laws, and are not causing harm in some way, I say more power to you...

And as far as those caps? Mine just came apart two weeks ago on a trail as well.

Hell, more power to ya. I would have done the same thing. There are a lot of variables in warranty work, but regardless, they didn't own up to their problems. They lied. Bad business.

chalk 1 up for the working class stiff. I'm in a fight now with United Health Care for a claim of over 10k for my wife that we had to go out of pocket for.

UGH!!! UHC is a pain! We fought them for 3 months on a 1K bill that they kept denying coverage on. I finally was at the end of my rope and got our company's benefits administrator (HR) on it. I was called the next day to be informed that everything was taken care of.
Worked for me...may want to give it a shot.

Whet to our company's HR office just as i hung up the phone with the service rep from UHC. I asked her to call her point of contact at UHC before i drive up to Salt Lake City and put foot to *****. This has been going on since the 2nd week of Oct.

UPDATE 12/15/2006

I received the parts form the Dealership today, they delivered them to my front door.
I should not have had to go through so much trouble to get my warranty honored!
These will be used as trail spares since Dave at hooked me up with a deal on these:

Lieing to not fix it is wrong ... I wasn't there so I don't know the whole story

Might not be what you want to hear on this topic... but I actually don't think the dealership did anything wrong by not offering to warentee the part.. after all it is lifted ... drivetrain parts do get abused then... was it a factory installed lift or a DIY.. we're your pinion angles set correctly ? Now for them to VOID the entire warentee is WRONG.......

just my $0.02 take it or leave it ....

I do think that sitting in front of their dealership was quite brazen... effective but a little tastless.. I can understand that you would be frustrated but did you attempt a professional reasoning with the Stealership.....???

This is a touchy feely issue ,,,,, if you drove your jeep and snapped the axle shaft ... would you think it should be warenteed ?

boy you dug this one up from the dead :)

I think you missed the major point... Those ears have a major failure rate at low miles with even casual wheeling (the type that is pictured in the jeep catalog of all places). They basicly looked at the fact that it wasn't exactly stock and voided everything...

I went to Avondale with the same problem LIFTED and they replaced it without question.

If one place CAN, and the other won't then something isn't being applied correctly. And THAT is why this particular case sucked so bad.

((plus he had AT tires on a rubi!! that should be considered a downgrade and un voided and lift voiding ;) ))

The thing just sounded to me like a "just riding along" when .... this happened scenario......

Ears wollow out sometimes...I get it... D30 and D35 axle shafts break to ....

I'll leave it alone.........

It is good to see the little guy putting pressure on the big guys to do what they are supposed to do. What a bunch of crap he had to go through just to get warranty work done. Why the hell did the dealer be so stuborn. All the bad press has cost that dealer 10X over the cost of the warranty work....

Dumb*** Dealer.....
