Hey all, I took my element 2 test this weekend and I am now KE7JYU. So now I need some radios. What set up to you guys recomend/use for 2 meters? I want to install a 2 meter in the Jeep, as well as get a nice handheld. So any suggestions would be awesome.

If you must have a handy scratchy, the Kenwood TH-F6A gives you 2m, 1.25m and 70cm in one little package. Great radio that will withstand a lot of abuse.
As for mobile, there's a number from which to chose. I personally avoid repeaters and FM in general but that's just me. Kenwood makes a nice mobile TM-742 if you can find one used. It takes FM modules for various bands of your choosing. It accomodates 3 modules concurrently. Your privileges are limited to 6m and above of course.
If you can do without 1.25m in one package then a used Icom IC-706 MkIIG makes a great radio. Probably the best bang for the buck out there. You get 6 through 70 cm in all modes, and can listen in on HF if you like. That may provide motivation to upgrade to general class. The Alinco 220 rig is cheap and very good if you want to cover all the usual bands. 900 MHz will typically require converted commercial equipment. 1.2 GHz rigs are available but more rare as are the repeaters.

Element 2 is for the technician license, which is the lowest level. Pick up a copy of the study book, read it and take the test. The test is fairly basic as far as the technical knowledge goes, and the books has all the regs and restrictions.
Then after you get your license, find someone who has been doing it for a few years and ask them to help you out.

For HT's I'm partial to the Yaesu models.
I haven't purchased a mobile unit yet but the Kenwood models have appealed to me more than other brands.

I already have element 1 and 3 I took those about eight years ago. Does that help me with anything. I dont remember much. Was long time ago.

I've been running an Icom 207 for years and years in my Jeep with no problems whatever. Welcome to the group!
