Had a great time running Willow Springs today. It was nice meeting new folks and finally wheeling again with friends after a 6 month hiatus. I didn't get many pics but the few I did take are here...

I look forward to seeing pics others took :)

I had a blast today! Thanks Matt for setting this up. We had a lot of Jeeps but everybody made it through okay with no major carnage. It was great to finally wheel with the Wind Danzer. She impressed me with her driving skills and No Locker!

Here's some pics!

Here's Matt in Ole Copperhead!

Good pics fo far. I need to download mine yet. I just got done working the DS into a position bungied to the frame. It seems I got some nice rotating "humming vibe" while hitting 70+ on the way home. I'll chat with Simon tomorrow about a resleeve if possible. If not (or it is just way too much $$$'s right now) I'll just keep it bungied up to the frame till I can afford it. ;)

I think my name is now "tire killer" as I'm 2 for 2 now in as many weeks.

I'm finally going to shower now and I'll get pics up in a little while.

That trail is good for taking out a front drive shaft. My DS is sitting on the garage floor right now waiting for a new one. I was getting really bad vibes over 50 mph. Wish I could have been there today. I'm glad there was no major carnage.

Yea, did the DS balance and the taking out of the tire within 10 or so feet of the same area of the trail. I had been doing very well too...

I am hoping the bungie thing will work for a while until I can afford a new one, or resleeving this one or the old one... or getting locking hubs.

Unfortunately I am beat so I will upload pics and post tomorrow. I had to much union stuff to do today when I got home. :(

Looks like another great run to Willow. You were only missing one thing. Me :)

Willows one of my favorites. You can't drive it to the lake. But you can get within a 1/2 mile and walk to where you can here boats. But to get down to the lake. That would take some doing on foot. The reeds are thick, and the ground is muddy and soft.

The rest of the trail after the spot you guys stopped, has a great rock garden thats just waiting to break what ever it can on your rig. After the rock garden. Your done. Not passable by any type of vehicle.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Hey Bruce!

Yeah...we mentioned that it was weird running that trail without you yesterday. But, as you can see, we had a white YJ along to partly make up for it! And the leafers represented very well!

At least a couple of us (me, Matt) went down to the start of the rock garden, but decided to not run it due to size of group (12 total) and was about this time we heard of Jamie's hang up just a little ways back.

I had a blast yesterday as well! Was cool running with everyone...some new faces, too. No damage on my rig except to worsen a previously plugged hole in the driver front tire. John (Jwohl) and I added a few more plugs and air while you guys were helping the other John (YJunk) through that rocky line in the wash (where the pic shows Jamie dropping into). Need to turn the tire around and put the plugs on the inside...how hard is fully removing a tire from a beadlocked rim??? And yeah...I know I need to do 2 since the tires are directional. :-(

Here Rich is confirming for me I was only supposed to back up SIX inches... not nine. As it was he put me in the right spot because I drove forward out of this and over the rock I slipped onto which high centered me... Thanks for holding me in place guys. Thats the ROC baby, and Thats how we (almost) roll..

I should probably also thank Nick... The rear axle was pretty bound up here and nothing snapped... Don't think I could have done that with the D35; which means I should also give Desert Fab a plug for putting it in... And while we're at it, look at those pretty tail lights I got from 4Wheelers...

It was good meeting everyone and I'm looking forward to getting out there with everyone again...

If anything broke, you'd have had it fixed in no time using all those tools and spare parts you were carrying ;)

Oh now that comment on the trail makes a little more sense about me being empty... I have a huge tool bag strapped in front of the passenger seat, on the floor, to the cage... So I gots me some fixem things... If I don't have anyone ridin shotgun (like who would) I put it there cause I'm anal about weight distribution (goes back to that ralley thing) I do need a spare though; no doubt about it... Had a good time and your CJ is sweet...

LOL... It is totally your fault I drive that way... If you had only taught me to slow down a little!! Now I just bang through cause it seems like the natural thing to do... Well that and your spotting always left me hung up on something.

You know deep down inside we're both attention whores who drive just alike... Just seems right that we wheel together. That's what the ROC (apparantly) is all about... So throw up your rock hand, hit the gas and hold on.

Aint that the truth! HEy wait... i dont get you hung up! youve never not been able to drive off of something when i was spotting! You get yourself hung up not me (remember the day near gordo? so is it bulldog that needs the permit or this one too?

Shnipey I'm not sure, but I think the answer is yes... The Mesa Office for the Tonto FS is just south of McKellips on Ingram Major crosses are McDowell and Higley...

I think Bulldog Canyon and willow springs are all in the same area... But I'm not sure cause that was my first trip out there

Glad you knew my comments were in jest. If I had a ProRock 60 I might think about using the skinny pedal a bit more too :)

The Bulldog Canyon Recreation area contains at least 2 trails I know of. Bulldog Canyon (the trail) and Willow Springs. Hence, the Bulldog Canyon Rec area permit covers both of these trails (and any others within the BC rec area).

Regarding the permit question...

YES...same permit for Bulldog covers the Willow Springs trail.

Its cut to stock width 57" I think... It came out of another YJ running the same gears etc... was pretty much a plug and play deal.

With a smaller group, we can reach the garden sooner and spend time going in/out. Tom and I have been through it a few times. That's where I bashed in the side of my CJ :)

Once through you can continue down the wash another mile (?) maybe, then it gets too gnarly. From there it's a relatively short hike to the lake. We're thinking it'd make a nice overnight trip - drive in as far as we can, camp out, drive out the next day - but not until the nights warm back up a bit :)

Overall it was a great day with some new faces and awesome people. I think the trail is actually a little more difficult on the way out and I will admit that I took some of the bypasses on the way out as I didn't want to kill another tire. It seems more people got hung up on the way out then on the way in. I'm sure being on the trail for a good part of the day led to mistakes and missed tire placement in some sense.

I can't wait to get back out there again and look forward to it. I very much enjoyed the challenge and hopefully will not mess up in the last 10 feet that I went again. ;)

Its cut to stock width 57" I think... It came out of another YJ running the same gears etc... was pretty much a plug and play deal.

That is cool that it worked out that way for you, both of mine came without braketry on them. Not so much plug and play. Wheeler's ended up doing the front and Jeff and I completed the rest.

That would be a lot of fun to go all the way through the end of that rock garden, and I am always up for a good camping trip. Looks like your rig worked out really well.

On a completely different note... If you've ever wondered where you might use a hand throttle (at least for me) this was actually the first time I was glad I had it in the rig... once we were pretty sure the rig wasn't flippin over, i was able to bring the revs up a little, let the clutch out a little and maintain some break which got me up and out of the notch the right rear had slipped into... once she came down, i took advantage of the momentum, put my foot the gas a little and bounced the rest of the way out.. Think that would have been a little harder if I had to release the break at that angel. Got mine at the local bike shop...

Hand throttle?

2 feet, 2 pedals. Perfect match! Makes me look like a much better driver than I am (and that's prolly not saying much!).

Also good to keep one foot on brake and one slightly on gas when the carb gets a little fussy at steep angles!

Yeah I think we all get that we don't have as much experience out in the rocks as you do... Who fawkin cares. You're the big Red Neck Cheese... Good for ya...

You flap your gums too much for me and there is hardly a comment you make on this board that isn't some sarcastic jab on someone. There's a point where it gets boaring and you put me to sleep a long time ago.

I love to jab and rib as much as the next guy, but you're like a little kid who doesn't know when to quit... So go have fun with the two or three people who think your clever...

I was honestly looking forward to hittin the trail with you, but It already feels like its a bad idea and too much work, cause anything that happens you're gonna grind on for eternity.

I'm a newb wheeler, so what... I'm not talking isht about the way I hit the trail, but I get the feeling it twists your tit that someone took a picture and made a comment... Get over it (oh here comes the clever response that assures me I mean nothing to you .... Fawkin Yawn)

Up until this point, I thought you were taking it well, and I knew I was holding up OK... You certainly seemed to be spewing forth more than your share of sarcasm and Jabs.

So now you got your panties in a bunch, and your Widdle E-Feelings hurt.. Big deal. Get over it.
