Growing up in Northern California, my family had a tradition of going to a Christmas Tree farm every year to hunt down a Christmas Tree and cut it our selves. It was a lot of fun, especially for the kids.
Now that I have a small family of my own I would like to start that tradition up again. The problem is that I cannot seem to find any Christmas Tree farms in AZ where we could do this... There are plenty of lots where you go down and pickup a pre-cut tree, but its just not the same.
I figured that there must be at least one Farm up in the high country where we might be able to do this.... Anyone know of anyplacen anywhere in the State?

I got my out of Desertdawgs front yard last year. I would suggest doing this after dark though. I have seen several of the nursery yards have the potted trees you plant after Christmas. We did that for several years.:)

I have been to the first link above... And many like them... Lots of places in CA, MN, TX, OR, WA etc. but the only ones listed for Arizona are for pre-cut lots.
I had considered getting a permit and venturing out into the forest to cut our own tree, but I figured that I would ask around to see if anyone knew of any farms where they specifically grow trees to be used as Christmas trees where you can go and cut them down yourself.
I have potentially found one... Lee's Choose-N-Cut Christmas Tree & Landscape Tree Farm - 623-935-9590
17335 W Maryland Litchfield Park, AZ 85340
I figured that perhaps there would be a few more... Maybe up around Sedona, Flag, Prescott, Payson, Show Low?

You're welcome! :) No need to venture into the forest. Just need about 100' of winch line and a dark night. :D
Oh, and shame on you for not walking down to see me at the "Suites" the other night. I see how it is. I hope you didn't buy any junk off that Shnipe dude.

I did'nt see your Shiny Silver there, so I didn't think you were working that late. Otherwise I certainly would have said hello...
No junk from Shnipe... Just a hunk of metal for a door stop for the garage door :)

Yeah; I park towards the rear near the dungeon Shnipe keeps me in. He sits up front all shacked up with fine wimens, computer access and heat while I sit next to a huge arse transformer trying to absorb some heat. Bastid!

Makes me miss the Christmas tree runs our club did in Oregon. The National Forest issues permits for Christmas trees and you can go find/cut any tree within certain areas. These aren't tree farms, just regular forest, so the trees aren't groomed and it's harder to find the 'perfect' tree, but they are free :) And the snow runs to go find them are a blast.

Sounds like a lot of fun... I think I may have missed the boat this year for Xmas tree permits. Looks like you need to have them sent in for a lottery in Sept or Oct.
Next year I might have to do the snow run/x-mas tree hunt.
I found another one... AZ Golden Valley Tradition Christmas Tree Farm 4243 Tangerine Dr, Golden Valley, AZ 928-565-4646 ... This one is just a tad too far, About 3/4 the way to Las Vegas..

We get permits every year and have done so for quite some time. We usually end up getting drawn for the rim area. We went up to the Woods Canyon Lake area this past weekend and brought home our tree. It is a lot of fun and is a tradition in our family.

There is a cut your own nursery here in Flagstaff. It is located on Country Club Drive across from the Flagstaff Athletic Club and adjacent to the Elden Hills Golf Club.
Take the Country Club Exit off of I 40 and head South. It is about .25 miles from I 40
There was an article about them in the AZ Daily Sun (Flag's local paper) earlier this week if you want to check it out: azdailysun.com

Hey Thanks Pitch... This may be just what I was looking for... Maybe next year or the year after I will venture out into the wilderness to cut my own natural growth tree, but I just can't see toting my 2 month old and 2 year old and non-outdoorsy wife into the woods to hunt for a tree this year.
