ive got a 95 gmc sierra, 1/2 ton 2wd 4.3 5sp, motor has about 60k

about 2 years ago it started running rough, stalling whenever i came to a stop. I bought an s10 to drive around that time so the fullsize got parked behind the house and was driven very infrequently, about once every 2 months. Yesterday i charged the battery and got it started after about 10 min of caressing the throttle i was able to get it to idle. I had to take it to the dump (its been serving as a garbage truck). On the way back if i let off the throttle and let it drop below about 2k it would stall. today while tryiing to start it, it would fire, then stall after about 2 sec. yesterday i replaced the fuel filter, distributor cap, rotor, plugs, wires, egr valve and selenoid, and coil. the injectors dont seem clogged as they are spraying a consistant stream into the tb. The gas in it is a year old, im sure it is contributing some to the problem but it had this problem when i put the gas in from the pump. the check engine light comes on about every other time i start it up, but it only stays on for about 1 min or so.

Thanks in advance.

(im trying to check the diagnostics codes now.. )

Could it be the valves ? I know adjusting them properly helped on my truck:rolleyes: Just a thought

Try a new oxygen sensor. Those things should be replaced along with spark plugs during a tune-up. Fresh gas is a must also. The IACV could also be fried/stuck open. If all that doesnt help, maybe a compression test to see if you have a flat cam lobe or burnt valve.

Before I did any more to the truck, I would run out and pick up a couple 2-3 bottles of "cleaner" to add to your fuel tank, the head out on the freeway for some driving. Maybe run up to Payson for a burger or something.

I ran into the same problem and that was what solved it. You can spend a lot of money fixing problems from old gas when a $2 buck bottle of fuel injection cleaner will work.

AMEN to that

i put 2 8oz bottles in .. at half tank.. about 16 gallons..

ive been reading chevy/gmc truck forums, there a couple that have had the same problem (but no response too my q yet). most of the responses point to a vaccum leak.. the truck is 11 years old, put in a NEW bottom end in 01, but all the sensors, vac lines have never been changed. I ran out and got an idle air control valve and put it on (in fact yesterday alone i got 5 punches on my autozone card.. so i get my $20 gift card)... it runs much better, but it still wont idle....
