No, it is not an intestinal problem :D It is however a problem that I have not been able to pin point. I hear it when I accelerate from a stop. But not while I am driving along. Any suggestions on what it most likely could be

Did you remove the baseball card that's attached with a clothespin rubbing against the spokes?

What locker do you have in the rear axle? How do you know it is in the rear?

How about when you apply throttle but are going slow, such as with the brakes on in 1st 4Lo?

One possibility if you run out of more external things is a damaged r&p. Also, unless you are without a doubt positive it is from the rear, check the FRONT axle u-joints. Also check trhe DS u-hjoints. All of these can cause clicking sounds during acceleration that goes away at cruise. In fact, check the rear DS joint at the pinion first. You may have to pop the straps or u-bolts off to check it thoroughly depending on what yoke you have.

ok, well I am not too well versed when it comes to doing all of that. I am almost 100% sure that its from the rear somewhere. I do have a Powertrax rear locker in it. Its a D44 and that is about all I know. It also has the short shaft kit as well.

It really is very easy to check, but if that's not your gig, no worries. Maybe you can scoot down to 4 Wheelers and have somebody look at it. If it is the u-joint (likely culprit) they'll be able to determine that quickly I am sure.

I just got off the phone with Eddie over there, and he said of course to bring it over. If it is a u-joint on the CV shaft, is that a relatively simple fix?

If it is a joint in the double Cardan joint at the xfer case end, it is slightly more trouble. If it is the u-joint at the axle end it is very easy.

Other than torn up tires, driveshaft and and front axle u-joints are probably the most common somewhat serious failure you will encounter on the trail with any frequency. You really should educate yourself about changing them -- it'll save you someday. It is very easy to do and invaluable if you are stuck out in the boonies.

I am betting that Simon will happily sell you spare u-joints and somebody there might even point you in the direction of learning how to do it, and if they can't, lots here can.

Sounds like it is almost time for another trail repairs 101.

Very cool, thnks! I agree that maybe we should do a u-joint workshop. Maybe if that is what mine problem is. We can do one and use mine as the example?

I could only wish it was that easy. That sound I know. That is a tick sound, mine is a click. Yes, to me, there is a difference :D

I like the idea of a wrenching party for u-joints. I don't know exactly how to do it, but I do need to replace one in the near future. Not an issue yet, but it was making chirping noises on trail run a few weeks back but quit once I got back on pavement. Did some searching on the forums, decided it was the u-joint, but hasn't made any noises since. Regardless, if we can do a wrenching session, I'll replace mine too.

I got up under mine and believe it is coming from inside the diff housing
After a few calls, there is a suspicion it might be springs/pins needing replaced. I had the whole back end off of the ground and while the wheels were turning (both because of the locker), I would see it and hear it popping a little bit as if the gears were trying to engage. I dont think the gears themselves are bad or at least I hope not :o
I guess I will see when I get time to take the cover off. I am still up for a u-joint workshop though.

You have a limited slip of some sort then I take it. Christmas is coming...time for a proper locker maybe.

I do have a Powertrax locker in it now. Its a full time locker that has been in for a few months. I know there is a year warranty on it, but why would the pins/springs already need replaced?

Sounds like you need the springs and pins replaced as you stated!!! This is a very easy job. Download the install instructions from http://www.powertrax.com/

AS far as the U-joint replacement, this is another very easy fix.
I will refrence Stu's website because it has been such a great tool for me and a lot of other people.

Good luck.
