sooooo....I wanna do LED tails...Ive got the reverse light covered with a 55w light mounted on the spare...
I need to hit up the truck stop and try to figure out what I want..(I want the rubber grommet style) but as far as how many LED's and all that...Red/rd.white/red.....any suggestions...?
And those that have been to the 67th and I-10 TS...where in the place are they located...?? I guss if Jamie found them I can..LOL :)
Also....any good places to see how to modify them so they dont blink fast...?? Ive got an '02...
Im going to get trail corners cut for the LED today..and would like to get the LEDS today or tomorrow..thanks for the help

Autozone has the LED rated flasher module, or did some time ago when I converted. I had to do some running around to find them. I bought the two they had since they were so difficult to lcoate at the time.
I highly recommend not using the inline resistor approach. It is kind of a lame way to solve the problem although it certainly can work. The resistor just generates a pile of heat. In my mind it is better to replace the flasher circuit with one designed to oscillate at the desired rate for the reduced load of the LEDs.

inline resistor
if you add a resistor you will be taking away the low electrical draw of the led lights.
i don't know about buying them locally, but www.buytruckstuff.com used to have all different styles for resonable prices. i know a few people that dealt with them and had no problems. good luck.

Yes, that is the point. Actually, you will be adding to the draw, not taking anything away. It puts the load back to what the stock flasher circuit was desigend to see which reduces the flash rate.
There's no need though since there's a LED version of the flasher module used in most modern vehicles. The Tridon (also Trico) EP26 is what works in a 1998 TJ (EP27 is stock) and there are others around for other model years.

cool....thanks for the info Barry....Id rather do that than hack into it....does anyonee know if it does indeed work for the 2002 Sport..??
Im gonna get a set of TBT corners nd LEDS from them with the pigtail...Id rather just plug n play if you know what I mean...by the timee I got everthing it would be almost as much...

Harbor Freight has round LEDs for 18.99 each. West Coast Marine on 43 and Bell has retangler ones. Both flush mounts.

so the question is does the new Trico EP26 flasher relay take care of the fast blink issue on a 2002 TJ with LEDs.....?
Anyone know..?

Did you check Stu's site? I can only speak first-hand for 1998.
If the 2002 stock unt is the same as the 1998 stock unit, then the EP26 will work fine since they have the same specifications.
I wonder if 4WS is carrying these since PSC also has a line of LED taillights. Might be worth the call.

OH....come on.
Perhaps you just need to pay someone to install it all for you! :D
All the info you need is in http://www.stu-offroad.com/electrical/led1/led-1.htm
It breaks down the flashers (all two of them) as to what vehicle model years use which one.

Not at all directed at you Stu...I thank the Lord every day for your site!!
But I'm not sure if I get the EP 26 if I still have to modify it...or if that was an older write up...
Im sure it had everything to do with me not eating ANYTHING today..until just a short time ago...whew!

if you have a 2002 year tj then follow these flasher mod instructions...
http://www.stu-offroad.com/electrical/led1/led-4.htm
OR.. go to northridge4x4.com and for $55 + shipping they will send you a modded flasher:
http://northridge4x4.com/proddetail.php?prod=FLASHER-RELAY
as for LEDs... I like my grote LEDs... I used the trucklight brand rubber gromets though because they work well with the thin sheetmetal... the grote gromets work better if you have extra armor like crusher corners etc. otherwise the grote grommet I had was too loose and sloppy.
I wouldve gotten these LEDs from mesa4x4.com :
http://www.mesa4x4.com/dynamic/part_details.asp?part_num=LD-5570R
but I have an 04 tj which has the evap canister in the rear passenger area... the mesa4x4 leds wouldve been to bulky without adjusting the evap brackets... the grotes are slimmer but thats not an issue in your 02 tj.

**edit... an unmodded ep26 flasher will work in an 01+ tj as long as you don't turn on your hazard lights... the moment you do that you will blow a fuse.

yeah...with a straight thinking brain...Im getting that...the EP26 wont work for 01 and up...
looking at the soldering again...after food...it looks pretty easy....I wasnt getting if it was the EP26 that was being modded or the stock flasher relay...
Ok..so I think I got it now...LOL...

COOL!...I got the LED's from Mesa4x4 today...and am waiting on the bolt lights for the plate...thought they'd be cool..
Anyway...I looked around today at 4 different AutoZones and a Checker for good measure (and it was right there)...and NO luck...even had em look it up...so I guess Im gonna try to order direct, or jsut mod the stock one if push comes to shove...:D

Ok, after thinking for several months about doing it and reading this post (which I had had a question on earlier), I got the LED's and installed them. WOW what a difference. I had no luck finding the flasher either and after going on to the MESA 4x4 site yesterday to see if the had a part #, I checked the tech section and saw how to mod the flasher. So, I did this and it was actually pretty easy. All works good. I cannot decide though (even living in AZ), should I take the lights out and at least prime the bare metal edges of the holes ?

Picked up a set of the PS LED lights from 4Wheelers and finally installed them last night. If you're doing this mod on a YJ you need to replace your existing flasher with a Tridon Stant EL-12 Flasher (as noted on Stu Olsen's site). As soon as I swapped the flasher the thing worked perfect... Now I'm all cool and stuff like SHNIPE :D
I found the flasher at the Checker Auto right down the street.
