David,
Don't take this personally but,
there are two kinds of riders, those that have dropped theire bikes,
and those that will:P The only thing you can do is prepare for it,
Wear your proper gear ALL the time, no matter how hot. At least wear
your jacket glove and helmet. Also keeping in this mindset you might
want to get an older bike to start on, Such as a ZX-6E since you're a
Kawi guy. I know it aint as pretty but it is plenty fast and handles
plenty good. Besides you won't feel as bad WHEN you drop it. I
started off on a 1994 FZR 600 2 years ago, after I had been riding
dirt bikes for 6-7 years and I did good, but I got ****y and dropped
it. I fixed it up and respected it and all was good. I have since
upgraded to a 2001 GSX-R 750 and that was a HUGE leap, but I was
ready, haven't got ****y and thankfully haven't dumped it yet.
Anyway Sorry for the long post but in short, ride like every car is
trying to kill you(they are ;P), wear your gear, start slow, and most
of all respect your machine.
Hope this helps

Good.... I was waiting for you to chime in scott....EVERYTHING you
speak is of the TRUTH!!!!! After having raced Expert in the AMA/CCS

because YOU WILL DROP IT most likely sooner than later, no there is
no disrespect meant here but it is true.. If you are just getting a
bike for the "chick magnet" idea then get the coolest, fastest bike
that is avail right now...and when you ride make sure you have you
helmet strapped to the seat and that you have on the D.O.T. approved
OAKLEYS or SPY'S and dont forget the flip flops... But remember one
thing.... IF YOU HAVE A 10 DOLLAR HEAD THEN BUY A 10 DOLLAR
HELMET!!!! I was sponsered by Shoei for 3 years and I did a REALLY
good job destrying their best carbon fibre-kevlar helmet they had AT
RACE SPEEDS...but I am still here to talk about it!!!! Please be

Any runs planned for the FJ area next weekend? A 3.5-4.0 would be nice.
I live in Gold Canyon only 8 miles from FJ, so we could gather at my

My fridge can be cooling the beer for after the run ;-)

David,
I will second Joes reccomendation on Shoei Helmets. I have one and
love it. Try on different helmets at a local shop then buy what fits
you best, It seems some people have Shoei heads and some people have
Arai heads, both are great helmets. If you get a cheap one, you will
end up hating it due to wind noise, weight, poor ventilation etc. and
won't wear it then you know what happens. And I don't want that to
happen to you I enjoy wheelin with you. BTW when you get it shoot me
an email and I will go ride with ya.

Just wanted to second what the others have said about the Shoei. I had a car cross the centerline at highway speed and flew face first through the other car. That brain bucket saved my life. As it was I spent a year in a wheelchair with massive injuries. I since have started riding again (ten years later) with a TL1000R.

I was looking at Yakima and Thule's websites and your cross bars are square.
The only ones that are square on the sites are the Thule bars. Are you sure of
the make on the cross bars and mounts?
Thanks, Mike

David,
Don't take this personally but,
there are two kinds of riders, those that have dropped theire bikes,
and those that will:P The only thing you can do is prepare for it,
Wear your proper gear ALL the time, no matter how hot.

Please be
careful....

David,
I will second Joes reccomendation on Shoei Helmets.

I have found in many cases you can find a junk yard 3/4ton Ford or Dodge for
less. The you not only have the front but also the rear and if you are
really luck an NP435 trany.

If its a D60 Ford front end with a drivers side pumpkin anything under $1200
is a good deal. Passenger side axles are usually a bit cheaper than this.

Subject: [az_vjc] Pricing on a dana 60 front
Has anyone been pricing a dana 60 front around here lately? I am trying to
find out if the one I am iterested in is a good deal or not. Its a full
width ford from a 79 3/4 ton pickup. Its run of the mill, 35 spline inner
and 30 outer. Needs new seals and gears. Any ideas?

I have gotten a couple notes on my web page just crawling on download. On my connection it is awesomely fast...but that is cable service. Can you guys try to load http://members.home.net/stevenjmeyer1/jeep and tell me how it works on your connection. I think I may need to put the site on a diet. After all, I want it to be useful atleast.

Steve

Just wanted to second what the others have said about the Shoei. I had a car cross the centerline at highway speed and flew face first through the other car. That brain bucket saved my life. As it was I spent a year in a wheelchair with massive injuries. I since have started riding again (ten years later) with a TL1000R.

I was looking at Yakima and Thule's websites and your cross bars are square.
The only ones that are square on the sites are the Thule bars. Are you sure of
the make on the cross bars and mounts?
Thanks, Mike
