Having recently finished the axle swap, I figured the old girl could use a makeover and I was getting tired of the drab black/gray color anyway. I used a few cans of Hammer finish copper on the body and bronze on the rockers, corners, front bumper/hoop, windshield frame, etc.
The body is still beat to hell but it looks better from 20 feet away now :D

My brother bought it new in 79. After a decade and hauling her from VA to TX and back, she ended up sitting on our dad's horse farm for a few years. I rescued her from the weeds (literally) and got her road worthy again, then moved to Oregon where I started the upgrades for wheelin.

Not much :)
I peeled off all my stickers, removed any easily removable peripherals, washed it with soap and water, let it dry. hand sanded the rougher spots (gouges, paint bubbles, etc.) then blew it with the CO2 and wiped it down with a dry cotton rag. Then I just masked stuff with 2" blue painters tape and went at it. I removed the hood and painted it seperately.
I've got a couple of coats of the copper on, but I need to wet sand it and do a few more; or not, depending on how motivated I get. After the copper was dry, I masked again and painted the rockers, corner guards, front bumper/hoop, windshield, etc. with the darker bronze.
Eventally I want to spray a few cans of clearcoat just to seal it, but since the body is crap now and I know I'm going to scratch, scrape, dent, bash the hell out of it more anyway, I'm not worried about how it looks close up :)
You can check it out up close at Hunter's BBQ if you're coming.
