I have a pair of factory TJ steps that are taking up room in my garage.

Will trade them for a six pack of Pepsi, first come, first served.. You
need to pick them up (near 67th Ave. & Camelback). If they aren't gone in a
couple of days, they go to the trash.

Anyone have any idea regarding the weight of the D30 and D44 (TJ) without
the wheels and tires;)

Thanks,
Fred

Anyone ever weigh their TJ or wonder what it is. Well, I did, as I'm
considering custom springs and I also need the front half and rear half
weight. The local truck stop has a split bed scale.
Ok, '98 TJ Sahara, soft top, 4.0L 6 cyl, 5 speed, A/C, custom bumpers front
and rear, no rear seat, Tuffy Security Box in rear, full armour (rocker
guards, f&R diff guards, engine skid), 4 35x12.50 SSR's on 15x8 AR767 + a
"thin" spare (Q78 15), rear mounted, tight to tailgate. Full tank of gas,
full off road load (tools, CO2 tank, etc), with me (175lbs) in vehicle,
within 20lbs. If you look at your Jeep, you'll notice that the rear axle
carries all the weight of anyone in the vehicle. The front seats are behind
the mid point of the wheel base.

Front axle half: 2040 lbs
Rear axle half: 2460 lbs
Total weight: 4500 lbs !!

Pretty darn heavy !!! Also, as I've always said, these TJ's are really rear
biased, weight wise. Here's an excellent example of why I don't like huge
spares, hanging wayyyyy off the rear of the vehicle (like with the
Bulletproof bumpers) and rear mounted gas cans ;)

:)

Yes, Jeeps are heavier than what people realize. I had a friend buy a 83 with a 6. I have a 93 with a 4. We weighed them on the scale on the Air Base, best I can recall we were both near the 4000 mark with his 83 being just a bit heavier.

Here are directions from central Phoenix

* Take the 202 to Country Club in Mesa.

* Go left (north) on the Beeline (SR87?) to the Saquaro Lake turn-off.
It'a about 20 miles out going this way. You Pass Fountain Hills and
cross the Verde River.

* Go right (south) on Bush Hwy (The Saquaro Lake turn-off)

* Go left (east) at the Butcher Jones Recreation Area sign. There is a
fee station, but since we aren't using the facilities, don't bother to
pay unless you plan on staying there a while. The green gate is in the
back by the Great Western Trail Sign.

From Chandler or Gilbert or Mesa

* Go east to Power Rd on any major east-west street.
* Go norht on Power Rd. You'll go over the Salt River and by the Saquaro
Lake Ranch and Marina entrance before getting to the Butcher Jones
Recreation Area.
* Turn right at Butcher Jones and the green gate is in the back of the
parking lot.

Oh, I've known that they are heavy, and thought that mine was close to what it weighed in to. I just posted this as some will find it interesting. Mant people constantly refer to Jeeps as "light" vehicles. They're anything but, especially when loaded. They are also so rear weight biased, it's no wonder they sit up on their tailgates like Tonka Trucks ;)

Hi All,

I lost the deal on my '98 XJ yesterday after three weeks of driving
it. Lousy dealership! Now looking for a different Jeep. I haven't got
a clue as to who might be honest enough to do business with and I'm
looking for suggestions and or referrals. Needless to say I'm a
little gun shy regarding dealerships right now but I'm willing to do
business with the right person.

My ideal jeep to start would be a stock 1997 Sport or Sahara w/hard
top.

Thanks,

Yup, winch is coming very shortly, possibly next week, along with moving the
hi-lift to the front. The ideal thing also would be to get the spare inside
the rear. That won't change the weight or the rear bias, but it would bring
a little more of the weight in closer to the center.

If you figure it out, it's 55% rear & 45% front. That's not too far
off center. It is managable.

I agreed to purchase the Jeep from the dealer at a rate of 7 percent
interest and signed the contract. After three weeks I noticed that my down
payment still hadn't cleared the bank. I called to ask why not and they said
because the interest rate would be a little higher than I agreed to.
Actually it doubled from 7 to 14 percent. This seems unscrupulous to me but
that's the way it goes I guess.

If anyone knows of a reputable and fair individual or dealership please let
me know.

Your more than welcome. I haven't been by there since 9/11 but I am sure they have had some problems. I guess I should stop by. They are from Iran. They were as honest as they could be with me and stood by the jeep they sold me, even when they did not have to be.

Hi Brian,
Sorry to hear about your Jeep. That really sucks. We know all about
dealerships. Been dealing with them alot lately. I have a 2000 TJ that I'm
thinking about selling. It's the sport. 4.0L, stock. 34K miles. Asking
$18500 for it. It's yellow. Not really been off road much. Only trails.
Easy stuff. Soft top, hard doors.
Let me know if your interested.

Brian,

Try All Models on 22nd in Tucson. They gave me a fair deal. They were honest with me and they normally have several jeeps to choose from. I told them how much I had to put down, they put it to the bank and then they told me how much the interest would be. Like I said honest people. The bank has to look at the credit you know. Normally the dealer won't know until whoever they finance through tells them. Try them out, they were true to me.

Tim

Where are the pics?
It's telling me that the album is empty.

If this dealership told you a lie you need to turn it over to the Better Business Bureau ASAP!

Hello All,

Roger Tomas is leading an Unspecified trail run on Monday, December 31, 2001.

When: 9:00am
Where: Mile marker 11 on Carefree Highway (aka SR74).
This is about 10 miles west of Lake Pleasant.

Rating: None
Length: Maybe 3-5 hours depending
CB Channel: 4

This trail run will be to the old P4W Ranch out west of
Lake Pleasant. This area has a variety - hill climbs,
ledges, rocks, notches, off-camber, etc. To do all of the
obstacles, I recommend front and rear lockers, decent
clearance, and 33" or bigger mud tread tires. Lesser
set-ups can take some bypasses but I don't recommend stock
rigs.

We'll meet at the dirt road (aka the haul road due to its
use by a sand and gravel company?) on the north side of SR74
near mile marker 11. Once everyone is there, we'll travel
another mile or so down the freeway before leaving pavement.

I'd guess this trail would rate somewhere between 3.5 and 4.0.
