OK. My brother switched radios with me when I was at work one day. He says he didn't yank anything, but my girlfriend who was home says she thinks he did. Now my gauges don't operate. The night lights come on, dummy lights operate (i think), but no odometer or needles moving. The interior light and hood light do not operate either. None of the bulbs are burnt out and they are not getting power. I checked the fuses and they all seem fine. What gives?

Just to clarify, you checked the fuses both behind the glove box and under the hood?
If so, check out Stu's site www.stu-offroad.com for dash cleaning instructions--maybe your stereo installer left something unplugged.

According to the wiring diagram it is F17 under the hood for the TJ (Using 2000 manual)

they all might share a common ground.
if its not that (incomplete circut) it has to be the fuses, check and then doublecheck.
i put in a deck in my heep and fried a fuse in the process i had the same symtoms

Looks like they do share a common ground (1993 FSM ) In my case the Neurtal saftey switch on the transmission (32RH) shorted out.. ( I can see the exposed wires) thinking incomplete 'loop'

fix that and go from there.
that might not be effecting the lights and gauges.

Parking lot lunch break today.....
pulled the access plate to the transmission from inside the tub..... claened everything . visually inspected, check out A ok... I pulled the plug from the NSS (neutral switch) and the YJ wouldn't fire.. plugged it in and it did .. the switch and ground should be fine. I also visually inspected the chassis grounds to the block and body under the hood. all fuses inside the tub are good..... the fuses under the hood check out as well...... Relays shouldn't matter right ????????
any other thoughts ????

I got it! Mine was the IOD fuse in the hood fuse box. Probably shorted something when removing the radio. 10 A fuse and took it for a test drive. Everything works again.
P.S. I'm still not sure what IOD stands for.

IOD/ Ignition Off Draw
The term ignition-off draw identifies a normal condition where power is being drained from the battery with the ignition switch in the Off position. The IOD connector feeds the memory and sleep mode functions for some of the electronic modules in the vehicle as well as various other accessories that require battery current when the ignition switch is in the Off position, including the clock.

I O D= ignition off draw, meaning this fuse is left out during shipment so it kills battery power to dash, RADIO, and other battery power items. It keeps the battery from going dead until it goes on the lot. Most likely the wire to the radio got shorted during the swap. Hope this helps.:)

It all depends on what the "OR WHAT" is, I guess. Ha!

Hey, it all makes sense now. Hood light, interior light, odometer reading, and I bet if I would've tried, my alarm wouldn't have worked either.
