I saw what resembled a well built CJ on a trailer towed behind a dodge

I am expecting one hell of a trip report from you guys as soon as you
get back. Hopefully with some great action photos. Those of us who work
during the week without the luxury of vacation time are very jealous.

Subject: Axle Alley Run... Thanks Bill and Ross
Just a quick note to Bill and Ross for leading the Axle Alley run today... I
had a great deal of fun although it was quite a long run (thanks in part to
me for one broken u-joint and a cut sidewall).
It was a great run guys... Tim; nice seeing you again. Ken... yo aint never
spottin for me son... <grin>
Scott, Tim; good job with no mechanical problems (wish I could have said
that).
For trail damage we had one bent tie-rod (Chris; you drive like a pro... and
only 15... man is this kid going to be a KILLER driver (as soon as he's old
enough to legally drive anyway <grin>)), two cut sidewalls, one broken
u-joint, and one broken transmission fitting.
Even though Ross and Bill can drive this stuff in their sleep... they really
did a great job coaching and spotting some of us smaller dogs through the
run.
Once again, Thanks Bill and Ross... you guys spent a large portion of your
day on a run you could have done in an hour. I appreciate it.
Kind Regards,
Joe West

I second that thanks to Bill and Ross. It was great wheeling with those guys
again.
No breakage on my rig. A light right foot, good spotting, and some good
luck were on my side today :)
This trail required the winch for all of us on 2 waterfalls. This is one
hell of a trail.

Hey Grant,
Dicks driveline is about 28th street and McDowell on the north side of the road. Their Phone number is
602-244-8115. I have used them to retube a couple of my front drivelines.
Hopes this helps.

Actually... all of us but Bill needed the winch THREE times <grin>.
I think that Bill was the only one able to make it up the next to the
last
waterfall without a winch. Me and my winch are close now... we's

Had fun today, My Jeep did ok. Still finding some little things to fix here
and there. Seems as the difficulty level increases, the more I find to do.
Everyone did well on the trail. There were 3 CJ's and 3 TJ's, that actually
made it to the run. Of the 3 TJ's, I seem to distinctly recall them being at
the end of a winch line a little more than their "Lower budget CJ brethren",
if that means anything in any future YJ TJ CJ XJ ZJ Leaf Coil Blah Blah
Blah discussions.......
A good time was had by all, and everyone pitched in where needed to get
things done.
Here's a few virtual awards:
Joe West wins the "Most air under one tire without cabin pressurization"
award.
Chris Skinner wins the "I drive Dad's Jeep better than he does" award.
Scott Kruize wins the "Nicest guy in person" award.
Tim Naylor wins the "Biggest Cajones in a TJ" award.
Ron wins the "Consistently doing more with less" award.
I don't have any pics.
Too busy having fun.

Great run today Joe. It is a fun and technical trail. Everyone helped and
was patient. 30mins on the long side was a pretty good time.
Chris and I wish everyone a great New Year. When Chris is kicking butt in
ARCA someday you can say you saw him stall it when he was 15. Actually I am
proud of him and he is a good kid to have out on the trail or anywhere else.
Good pics, I will put mine up tomorrow, you look good lying on your back in
a TJ..;-)

Subject: [Tech] 85 CJ7 - YJ Tub On CJ7(85) Frame
Since cheap CJ tubs are almost impossible to find, I measured up a 90 YJ tub and found it to be an almost exact match. There are two body-mount locations that are different on the YJ. The ones that required some modification were the mounts at the rear of the frame
located on the last crossmember. The CJ mounts are approx. 1 inch inboard to the YJ holes. I drilled out the pinch-welds on the body and opened up the metal so I could remove the captured nut. I drilled a new hole that would line up and used a new piece of plate steel
and nut. The new location is right next to an internal
support so measure and drill carefully. The other location was the body-mounts just forward of the rear axle. These did not line up at all but I was able to utilize the existing holes in the tub with a heavy duty washer and new nut. These mounts required no modification to the tub. All other mounts lined up with only minor tweaking. (my tub is slightly askew)
It should be noted that when bolting in the body mounts the YJ has larger bolts vs. the CJ- 7/16&5;/8 for the YJ
and 3/8&7;/16 for the CJ. Also YJ body mounts do not fit
in the holes on the CJ frame-they are a larger diameter.
You could file away some metal I suppose but I just went with the CJ mounts with different bolts and the
"cheapo" 1-inch body lift.
The CJ front end and hood are bolt-ons as well as the brake cylinder and CJ pedals. The HVAC duct-work from my CJ went right in(the YJ is vaccum controlled and would be a pain to convert)The CJ instrument panel went in for the most part, but two bolts in the middle need to be drilled out and longer bolts used due to differences in the YJ. There is no provision for a defroster on the YJ since it is routed through the dash on that model and the windshield frame on the CJ. I suppose I could fashion something, but I'll worry about that when the time comes. You'll also need to cut in a new fuel filler hole to use the CJ tank.If anything wacky comes up as I finish my project(other than when I go to register it)I'll let everyone know.

This is one
hell of a trail.

don't see your pics tonight, I guess I can view them in the morning

Hey Grant,
Dicks driveline is about 28th street and McDowell on the north side of the road. Their Phone number is
602-244-8115. I have used them to retube a couple of my front drivelines.
Hopes this helps.

Are you happy running a SUA setup? This is my son's 1st project build

I would be very interested in any comments you have either way.
