I saw this topic on another board and wanted your opinions. I know that 3/4's of the people here run black steelies and have never had a problem. It will be interesting to hear from the vendors on this.
Is it neccesary to run hub centric wheels on a TJ? Why or why not?
I know for a fact that the stock Moab wheels on a Rubicon are hub centric. In addition, the use of spidertrax spacers maintains the lug centric design while granting the desired backspacing when using stock wheels.

If your original configuration is Hub-Centric, you need to stick with that. The difference is wheels that are made to be hub-centric but the vehicle weight on the hub rather than the lugs... Puting pressure on the lugs when you shouldn't can cause the lugs to sheer. See the attached link for what can happen if the lugs sheer off. OUCH!

Are regular TJ's and all newer jeeps for that matter Hub centric?
Here's the thread that got me going:

I realize that people over there tend to sweat the small stuff, but I see probably 25 jeeps a day with custom wheels and am sure that this isn't being considered.

Looking at the hub and its 5 broken wheel studs you have got to ask yourself if it just happened while driving down the road or did he hit something [pothole, bump whatever] that would cause what a catastrophic loss/breakage of all 5 wheel studs.

He was running el cheapo wheel spacers.
Quote from thread:
"They were billiet spacers. Don't remember the brand. They were not spidertrax"

Very interesting thread, especially since I want to get Walker
Evans bead locks next spring. I hope Simon and 4 Wheelers has a good answer to this issue.

I was waiting to hear from them as well. It's not like he has a business to run or anything :)
