Hunter

Its the 8th Annual AZVJC BBQ hosted at Hunter's

Ok everyone here is the News and Notes for the BBQ

For starters, here's the how-to rules for the BBQ, for all of you rookies coming for your first time; or for those of you, cant remember the last one ..

This will be the main thread for the BBQ. If there are changes, they will be added here in this post. Watch the "update" date to see if anything has been added. Notes will be added.

Last up date: 11-27-2006
Check for Toys for Tots and Raffle Sponsers 4Wheelers is on the list now

1) First Rule,
And most important. Food. Everyone brings a little. Everyone will have alot. Bring a side dish, bring a few bottles of ketchup, plates, drinks what ever. If you can, post what you are bring here so some folks can get an idea what you are bringing. One thing I ask.... If you buy meat, try and buy matching buns, helps cut down on being too lopsided. Bring a cooler with ice and have a freind bring sodas or water. You get the idea.

For those of you thinking, "I should tell him to make a list", (it happens every year), it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep track of what everyone is bringing. I have 100 poeple signed up. I will have 150 show up. I go with the rule, "average in the chaos".

2) The W's of the BBQ

Where: Hunter Offroad Parking lot 625 S Smith Suite 1 Tempe Az 85281
Map can be viewed at www.hunteroffroad.com

When 3:00 PM Saturday, Dec. 9rd. It will kick-off at 3 O'clockParking lot will be full by 3:02. If you want to get in the lot, come early. And another thing,, after all these years I have given up .. I have created the "Rock Rat Rule" and this will be the first year I have enforced it. If you want to come early for more BBQ time, come early. Parking lot will be open by 12:00

Why: Goes back to the roots of the very first one... Allows everyone a chance to meet other Jeeper's and swap ideas, check out other rides and get ideas, make freinds and have a good time. Most fun you will have with your 4x4 on pavement. There are alot of new faces this year and the club needs a big get together.:D

3) RTI Ramp,
It will be good times as usualy on the ramp. Show everyone what you got. See if you improved over last year. Or justhave fun. Lot's of pictures and probaly some tire climbing. But, remember from last year two rules:

No Sex in the Champagne Room and No Rolling Off The Ramp. I checked and final approval was negatory by the property owner. Too much risk of damage to the parking lot surface. Rule 1, may be bent. Rule 2, Can't.

4) Raffle
Ah, fast becoming one of the best, well known raffles out there.... Well, atleast in my mind. But where else can you get tire deflators, a JP Cooler, and a Christie's Coffee Thermos all in the same raffle?

Raffle Sponser's so far...Stay Tuned, there will be more..One of the club faithful, 4 Wheelers has joined up once again... Should be a good raffle this year..

Absolute Off Road
Desert Fabrication
JP Cooler's
4 Wheeler's

5) Drinking.
NEVER had a problem with folks haveing some cold ones in all the years I have been doing this, but I have bring it up. Only thing I ask, remember, it is a family event, so take care and mind your self. It is private property so you can drink. So, if you like to bring some cold ones and talk shop with your buddies, go ahead and play nice and be prepared to share with the host. And just like the year's before.. dont ask what's mixed with my Coke.

6) Selling stuff Swap meet ideas.
Usually folks will want to bring stuff and try and sell or swap stuff. I have no problem.. Thats what this is all about. Got some old shocks or Jeep parts, bring and put them on display. Old winch you wanna sell? Only rule, dont bring so much stuff, that is takes up room in the parking lot for people to park. If you have something bigger, leave it on the street. I want to save room for folks to setup their chairs, and allow as much room for people to park as possible in the lot.

7) Kitchen Help
I need BBQ's... always do. More the better. From the past, 5 normal size grills can cook all we need im the time to feed everyone. Be a hero and bring a grill. We are always looking for volunteers to help. At this point I have nadda. Also, anyone want to run the kitchen area? I have found it does help to have alittle direction.

*Stay tuned to this as I will update it with who is bringing what.

Still looking for grills........

Toys For Tots.

We have become pretty famous for this over the years. Mike, one of our members and a Marine, leads the charge for the Toy Drive. Bring a new, unwrapped toy and make a kid smile somewhere. Each year we have been getting bigger and Bigger. Lots set a new record this year!

Other Notes....
Also if anyone wants to donate to the raffle, Please contact me. In year's past we have had gift certificates for a restaurant other club members bought, to a free therapy massage by a another club member's private business, gift cards, or even the classic re-gift.
Email: hunteroffroad@aol.com 480-557-7577

This is has come up in the past so i will set it out from the start... if you have freinds from work or other buddies, all are welcome. Folks dont have to be in the AZVJC club to attend. In, fact more the merrier. Help spread our image. I figure after the guy drove his Ponitac Sunbird up the RTI ramp, all bets were off.

Do not to forget too bring Tables and chairs to sit on too for you and for others. Also, I will need BIG tables for Kitchen Area. Contact me if you have some. Will need atleast 4 to 5 3x8 tables.

I think that about covers it, but I know I probably forgot something. Be in touch with everyone. Take care. Stay tuned for updates........

Also, I will try and get the sign up list on the AZVJC web site at AZVJC.ORG tonight (11-13-06). PLEASE, please sign up if you can...

Best Regards

I have two 3x8 tables I'll bring, as well as an old gas grill (anyone wanna bring a propane tank as I can't get mine filled anymore). I'll even pick up some new grill rocks for it :)
I'll also look around the shop and see if I can find anything to con Todd out of... er... put in for the raffle. No promises on that, though.
Oh, and I'll bring me and a cooler of various beverages and see if I can't stop off at the store for a desert of some sort... I prefer cheesecake :) If I can't find a good one, then I'll just grab a bag of chicken parts to get coooked.

Toy drive... AWESOME idea!
I'll grab a few toys anyway.
So... does anyone want news or other media coverage for this as a toy drive for Toys for Tots or anything? I have a couple friends in town and might be able to scrounge something up.
Great chance to further the truth about the good that we do in a very time-, community- and proximity- relevant nature (if you can get three relevancies, then you have a GREAT chance of getting coverage).
It would only mean that we'd have to be conscious of ourselves... closely... while the cameras were around (or on)

Mike posted the Toys for Tots run (ie, at the BBQ) days ago - where you guys been?

http://www.sosnws.com/OldSite/Trips/View.asp?T=4192

There are 23 signed up for the BBQ and only 4 for the Toys for Tots? That's sad.
Don't forget to sign up for it so he has an idea how many toys to expect.

Oh, and I'll be sure and stand near you for the raffle :D

Sorry. Unlike you, I'm still in the garage trying to finish my CJ.:D Infact, at the rate I'm going I might be driving my service truck up the RTI ramp. I think maybe it's time to have a wrenching party at my house. And yes, you do want to stand next to me. Everyone around me always wins, but me.

I have been in Vegas for W.E. ROCK World Finals watching our buggy get torn up, then to New Jersey to get rained on and freeze my nether regions off, then to malibu to compare who has more plastic... the women or the vehicles they drive. (I was there for a class at Pepperdine university, Malibu).
Where've you been? LOL

added my name to the TFT list.

I'll need someone to take my grill home, as I have to leave early. It appears that my wife's company xmas party is that same might. No offense folks, but It's a choice of being jealous over those that have running rigs and an open bar... hmmm tough decision :D

And just an idea to toss out for future BBQ events...

This thread (http://www.gljt.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7434) is about the Great Lakes Jeep Club from the Chicago area that does an annual Toys for Tots parade with 400+ rigs. Maybe we could try to plan something similar for future BBQ's where we could stage a parade on University Blvd. the morning before the BBQ with it ending at/near the BBQ for toy dropoff to the Marines. It would be a good way to get our image out and collect more toys at the same time.

ThumpAZ
11-22-2006, 11:40 PM
As liberal as Tempe is, you'd be very hard-pressed to get a permit for that.
Your best bet is to get a co-sponsor event with a marines drop off station somewhere with a decent parking lot for to park rigs and such.
This would very liely garner some news attention. and spreading the word to local radio would get someone to bite on it.
Hate to rain on the parade (no pun, really) but I don't want to get folks' hopes up.
Would be worth a try, though.

k7mto
11-23-2006, 12:10 AM
That's a good idea, Glenn. We could still parade (convoy) our way there which would get some attention, especially if we displayed Toys-for-Tots signs on the rigs. Might be something to think about for next year and it doesn't necessarily have to be connected with the BBQ (although it could be the same morning with many folks heading over afterward).

ThumpAZ
11-23-2006, 07:47 PM
With a week to go, someone who's dedicated could get the marines over there, and leak it to the news stations. We might get a hit and will be a good learning experience for a more organized item next year.
I'll be in New Jersey this next week, so I can't take the helm.
But I'll be glad to give pointers to anyone willing to do it.

Mike (SteelPonyCowboy) handles the Toy-for-Tots collection at the BBQ every year, but he usually fills his ZJ and hauls them over to the Marines. Maybe he can get them to make a showing at the BBQ, but to be newsworthy, we'd have to step it up and donate much more than a ZJ full.

John as usual the Rats will be there and I would be happy to run the ramp scores on my lap top, I just need a parking spot close to the ramp for power from the Jeep. We will also help with the Toys for Tots. Looking forward to seeing everyone.
Jim F.

BTW Glenn on the propane tank do what I did with the old tank. Take to a Circle K and do the exchange they have no idea they are taking an old tank and you get a new refillable tank.

I have a customer that works for PPX, and he says it happens all the time, they expect it. its part of the deal to change from the old style fittings to the new "acme" type fittings. The difference is that the acme fittings thread different and also will melt away @ 375 degrees in case there is a fire. so, you are still staying "honest" but now you can use the BBQ once again!!!!

Hey guys, doesn't look like I'm gonna make it... My exhaust finally fell off today and in the process of getting it fixed, I discovered I have a leaking gas line... I'm mean it would totaly keep with the BBQ theme if she blew... But I'd rather not.

Sorry I had to miss the BBQ this year. Both our girls came down with the flu and I spent the afternoon tending to and cleaning up after their upset stomachs :(

Hahaha... More haters...

Don't hate my rig cause it won the Fart Box race... Hate it cause it was there and you weren't.

here's a word to the wise... If you don't want Bill Mish to play Jeep Checkers with your junk, don't leave the keys in it. That would have never happened with my old exhaust!

Had a great time as always, John and the newer addition of Brandy.
My little girl was having a blast watching all of the people and Jeeps (yeah, she does have a thing for them at only 8 months old). Actually glad my wife decided to come out, as she can finally see why I like to hang out with you guys.
Good to meet a few new faces and reunite with old pals. Oh, and I now know what Frenchy looks like. When he intro'd himself he was all "shhh!"
Why?

Oh well, it's all fun and games 'til a wall gets knocked over :shaking:
I'm taking Rach's keys next time... and she's gonna have to perform to get 'em back :grinpimp:

Thanks, again, John and Brandy... helluva time!
EDIT: Oh yeah... to the cooks and other grill mongers... damned fine food prep, folks. Thank you!

I try to stay incognito because I'm not social and I don't like making new friends, friends are bad, socializing is bad. In fact that wasn't me you saw it was an out of body experience from my good side.

Thanks John & Brandy, that was only my second BBQ, I didn't make the last two but I had a great time this year.

A big thanks to the cooks, I know I ate too much and it was all good.

If you like to see and talk jeeps that was the place to be, but it was a little cool on the ride home with tube doors.

My big thrill for the night was getting to meet Frenchi's mother, never did get to meet his father but who cares, mom was great. ;) :D

John,

Thanks for hosting the BBQ. I'm glad to hear that everyone got home safe, regardless of the after hour antics.

How about folks post up some pics of their rigs? It would be good to put a 'rig to a face'. I was driving a white Xj, parked behind the Evo across the street.

This is what our club is all about. People from all over coming together for a single reason (JEEPS).
It was great to see everyone and to meet some of the new members. Eric (DM) you are the BBQ King. You finally found out what Bud light was for. Putting out the flames.
Thanks John a good time for everyone.:)

Wow, I am glad everyone had a great time. It makes haveing my shop smell like port-bathrooms for a week worth it.

It was a bit smaller this year than others, but that was kinda of the idea. After the last few years, it was getting pretty big. (140-150 jeeps last 3 year average) So it was nice to have it down aroudn 75 (Thanks to my Dad for counting.) this time and give it more of a cozy feeling. Cozy? Well you get the idea. Lots of old faces, and lots of new faces which is the best part..

Brandy and I give our biggest "Your welcome" and glad everyone had a ball. Plenty of food, plenty of parking, good times on the ramp and no one threw a rod in a 4 cyl. Cant ask for any more. I am looking forward to next year and we can start the maddness all over again..

Also, at the end of the nite, when my Dad and I were cleaning, we came across a folding chair... Anyone forget one?

Thanks for being a great crowd. Hats off to all for bringing the food. Lotta good food this year.

Best Regards,

John "Hunter" and Brandy.

Thanks again for another great x-mas party!
Sorry about the wall, Hunter. I thought the ramp moved. ;)
And I did leave my chair there. Blue Ozark Trail with a tiny burn hole in the middle of the seat? That was mine. Fun times as usual.
I really was planning on sitting in that chair, but never actually made it back.
