Yup....it's possible ;) Got the front fenders cut this weekend. I reused the stock turn signals and just installed them in the grill. Hoping to get to the rear by the end of the week cause I'm out of town this weekend. Let me know what you think so far..........

I'll try to get some better finished shots in the light......For the rear I'm going to use the top of the flares as a template to draw a line. Then I'll remove the flares and cut. I still need to pull the inner fender liners and see what I might run into. I still can't believe that I just chopped an 05 Rubicon

Yeah, alot more than I thought. Before I cut I had 5" from tire to flare, and now I have 8.5" from tire to fender. I still need to flex it out and measure for bumpstops. I need to get a good front shot to post up. I've got 3" BS with the new spacers and I'm just loving the stance. I'm hoping that the new stability and clearance really come through on the trail like I'm planning.

Looks good. How much debating did it take to decide to cut the fenders? Would be hard decision to cut a good fender down for me.

Alright finally got a good front shot. I just noticed that the passenger turn signal is kinda crooked  Oh well.
Walter: Not too much debating actually. I've planned on doing this since I traded in my last Jeep for this one. I've just been trying to convinvce my wife that it was a meaningful modification  She thinks I'm crazy but at least she's still letting me sleep in the house :p

One of the magazines awile back (JP maybe?) put 35's on a TJ with ZERO lift. They bumpstopped it, installed a hi-clearance rock crawler hood and saws-all'ed the rear.
It can be done.

Looks good.Does it throw a little water during moonsoon season?:D
I like the low COG idea-I have tried to do the same with 37's-4in lift & 1in BL.

Yeah it works, I had 37's on mine with 3" of lift. In regards to the rear cut you won't be able to use the top of the flair line. You will be able to cut up to where the inner fenders and the sides are spot welded together. It's what I did to mine...

I later redid the front cut up even higher... I wanted the strength of the tube around the hood but the tires touched the bottom of the uncut hood at full flex so I cut it up higher and then built the tube fenders...

Rioshilo-Nice work-looks great.Looks like you have full-width axles? Unfortunately I have stock width axles so making it low with large tires is a bit more of a pain.Bumpstops, sawzall,& tube fenders have helped.:D

Wow, forgot about this thread. Since you guys bumped it I'll throw in some new pics

She's coming along slowly. I still need to extend the bumpstops and then get some longer shocks to maximize droop. Then I'll need some limiting straps to keep from dropping them. I just picked up some Superior Evolution shafts for my front 44 and should have some matching rear shafts not too long after the new year. Next on the short list are: adjustable control arms, longer shocks, longer brake lines, limiting straps and a new driveshaft. I really love Rio's rig. I was thinking that I would need a 1" BL to clear 37's but might just give it a shot with the 3" that I have now. Of course that's about a year down the road when these wear out.

I'm also planning on moving up to 35" tires next summer. I just put on PSC tube fenders and crusher corners. What have you guys done to the rear wheel well? If I back space my wheels 3.5", will larger tires clear. Crawldit, looks like you might be rubbing back there?

I'm running 3" of BS and rub front and rear still (You can definitely see where the tires hit the fenders in the pics). I need to take some measurements and lengthen the bumpstops on all 4 corners. I was planning on doing some trimming in the back but never got around to it. I'll probably just wait since I can't make up my mind whether or not I want to comp cut and stretch the rear (no sense in cutting twice).

They are early bronco axles so they are the same width as the tj axles were. The rims were pretty backspaced though, 2" bs. I did have a 1" BL on. with the 37's in the rear they would have rubbed some without, of course that can be bumpstopped
Crawldit... Looking good, and at least your getting out. My last time out was october.

That firestone sign is at 115 ave and bell. I used to live at 114 th and bell. Now I live out in the desert, but I still work at 107 and bell....

Rio;
Everytime I see that pic of your rig flexed out on that wall; I have to snicker. So many are quick to bash radius arms and promote superior flex at the expense of dropped coils. There sits an awesome rig flexed like mad with radius arms from the 70's along with fully captured 3"coils. Do you miss the old rig? :)

Yeah I miss it. Can't wait to build the next one, but I'm still trying to gather parts for the CJ. It's difficult to find a good price on axles so I'm waiting for a deal. The best I've found is a military truck place in Utah, $2000 for C14 with a detroit and D60 front, both with 4.10 gears.

I know this thread is old, but com'on man! Stick to your guns! By golly, I just saved a silly TJ tonight in my lowly XJ. Well, the floorjack saved him, luckily one of the bolts from the floorjack was long enough to nurse the TJ home (lost a long arm bolt).
It does suck, but hopefully with 6+ inches I'll be able to fit 35's under this piece.
YO.

Rio,
How about these? They don't have the gear ratio you are looking for or the other goodies but the price on them is good. $900 for both. Don't know about shipping.
