Basically(in a nut shell) you are wiring up a toggle switch between
your ignition and the battery. You could also install it beween the
battery and starter, but that is a little more work. A simple switch
just like a for your KC's can be used and hidden where ever you
like(amongst your actual light switches can work too). When I had a
Baja Bug that was really decked out I used the dimmer switch in the
floor board(normally used for high beams). Worked great and with the
black carpet in it you could not even see the switch. This will also
allow your alarm to work, and hotwiring it or forcing the ignition
switch will not start the vehicle.

Most autoparts stores carry the switches.

Another option(someone else did this) put a valve in the fuel line,
put the switch to the valve on the floor board next to the drivers
seat. Switch it off and it would interrupt the gas flow, what ever
was in the line up to the valve would continue to keep the car
running, but within a 1/2 mile it would kill the vehicle. It worked
great one day when he was carjacked, as he got out he flipped the
switch, they drove about a 1/4 mile and it died. They could not
figure out how to start it again and fled the scene. If you switched
it when you parked it, they would not get far before it ran out of
gas.

Just a couple of idea's.

I am very sorry to hear about its theft. I will keep an eye out for
it.

Bob,

Perhaps you could talk to the board at your next meeting about the
possibilities of an online registration.

In the meantime, I'll work on a web form where users can put their
info and the website will generate a page that they can print out and
send in with their money.

IMO, the easier you make something, the more likely people will
cooperate.

I recently bought a set of axles out of a chevy 1 ton from an out of state seller. I was lead to believe the axles were from a single rear wheeled truck. Now that I have them I have found the rear to be a 14bolt from a cab & chassis dually but the front D60 is from a single rear wheeled truck. This means my front is 69" wide and the rear is only 62-63" wide. To much of a difference.

My choices are:

1. trade the rear for another that is wider. These 14 bolts are plentiful around here so this would be really cheap.

2. Narrow the front to match the rear . This would cost a few bucks, but would be a more reasonable width. The money to narrow it is not an issue. It would also fit on my trailer

I need some opinions here. Help me out. Let me know what you think.

Subject: Re: Bought a CJ-7

Something to consider. If you are planning to start with 35's and your
stock running gear, then your going to need to get wheels that are 5 on
5.5" pattern. The message you sent to Ross stated you were going to go
to D60's. In that case, your going to need to swap out your wheels for
8 lug versions AND tires to be a 16.5 (unless you do some interesting
stuff and are able to get 15's to fit over the D60 calipers and drums).
I'll be honest with you, if your going to do a build up anyway, you'll
save yourself some $$ in the long run by just jumping to those 1 ton
axles and getting the wheels and tires that you REALLY want.

I've got a CJ7 with stock running gear right now. I initially did just
what you are looking to do. I went and got some 33" boggers and 15X10"
wheels. I'm now in the midst of doing my axle upgrade and am going to
38's for tires. Wheels have to be swapped out! Not to mention, I spent
money on lockers for my stock axles. I REALLY should have just done it
all right the first time.

The flip side is if you intend to give your son an education on working
on it and how to build it at the same time!!!! Then you probably ARE
better off starting with the stock stuff, go through it all, learn what
works, and then move forward. Doing the SOA will teach you/him a lot
about springs, setup, etc. Go wheel it, break some stuff, learn, then
upgrade.

As for the engine, if the I6 is still good, I would just hang on to it
until it is dead. You WILL need to do gears if you go to 35's or 36's.
4.56's are going to be recommended. But then your getting into putting
money into axles that you know you will eventually get rid of.

SOA with some fender triimming and a mild body lift should fit 35's or
36's. You should consider putting an add-a-leaf into the spring pack or
taking another Wrangler pack and insert another main leaf just under the
main leaf of the pack. This will aid in long term durability and you
will need this setup if you go to 38's and full width 1 ton axles. I
think Ross is running 2.5" Wrangler springs SOA on his CJ7 with full
width axles and it works REALLY well with 38's. I'm going to try to do
the same but with only about 1.5" SOA using all stock Wrangler stuff
(adding a leaf, etc).

Food for thought.................

Personally I would go with a wider rear axle. I have a dually 14 bolt axle and the width is not a big problem. The main problem is the huge bell shaped drums. They just beg to be hit on rocks when you use a standard offset or deeper wheel. I am planning on having custom wheels made that would draw the wheels in a few inches. Its cheaper and eaiser than narrowing the axle. If you really like the axles you do have, then have some dually style wheels made. They can be mounted either side out. For the narrower rear axle mount the wheels deep side out and up front the shallow side out. You do have to watch out for the hubs and make some decent measurement to make sure they don't stick out too much.

BTW, Anyone have a wide front 60 around? I still need one. hehe

I have a suggestion for you....get full glass coverage! :)
I carry full glass on both my vehicles and use it all the time. You
have to be able to get something for all of that money we throw away
on car insurance.

Hi Mike,
I thought the members of the Club might enjoy a little Holiday Jeep Humor but I am not sure how to post this, so I thought I would send it to you first. I am a habitual jeep "junkie" as I like to put projects together and sell them when I find another project that looks too fun to pass up. :o) My wife says I have a problem, because I start a new project before I have finished my last one. (I have 3 projects that I am working on at this time...Hmnn..Maybe she is right!) Now my wife and I have come up with a few warning signs to let you know if you might have a Jeep "Problem." If you can think of any other signs, please add them to the list. Call me at 623-583-1787. Oh and I might add, I am on the west side. (Some people call El Mirage "East California") A few of the group have bought things from me and I found out about this sight, when a member came to a Jeep Yard-Sale that I was having. Anyway, We just want to say Thanks, to all the Jeepers that have helped us live on a teacher's salary, buy purchasing parts and jeeps from us. And for also helping me afford my Jeep hobby!

Here's wishing Everyone at AZVJC .....

@@A VERY HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON AND MAY YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR!!!!@@@

*******WARNING SIGNS*******

1. You might have a Jeep Problem if....you have a least 1 jeep project on cement blocks in your yard.
2. You might have a Jeep Problem if....you are spending the "grocery" money to buy parts.
3. You might have a Jeep Problem if....you have a T-shirt, baseball cap, or a tattoo of Jeep, somewhere on your body.
4. You might have a Jeep Problem if....you are spending the "utility" money on Jeep parts.
5. You might have a Jeep Problem if....you have a least 4 friends that have Jeeps that don't run.
6. You might have a Jeep Problem if....you are spending the "beer" money on Jeep parts. (If you are spending jeep money on beer, there is a 12 step program for this).
7. You might have a Jeep Problem if....your Jeep expenses are higher than your house payment.
8. You might have a Jeep Problem if....you are working a 2nd job at a Jeep Parts store to help pay for your own parts.
9. You might have a Jeep Problem if....your girlfriend or wife threatens to leave you because of your Jeep obsession, and you aren't too upset about it.
10. You might have a Jeep Problem if....you have enough spare parts to have your own Jeep Parts Store.
11. You might have a Jeep Problem if....you have given up cigarettes and beer to help finance your always on going Jeep Project.
12. Women Jeepers are not immune to these symptoms although you might want to substitute chocolate for beer, as for vices that are sacrificed for our Love of the Almighty Jeep!
****I apologize for any politically incorrect opinions, and invite you to offer some more of your own observations of us "Jeep Junkies" that I may have missed!****

Call Flanders Glass on East Washington in phoenix they will put one in for around $100.00 602 254-1079. We use them for our commercial trucks and the quality is fine.

OK, I broke it on the Martinez canyon run, and it's really bothering me.
So I want to replace it. My insurance doesn't cover glass.
I first thought about Plexiglas, but that is too soft and will scratch. I called a glass place and they said for a DOT approved glass would run me $350
So pro's/con's suggestions?

David,

I have one suggestion for you:

Get zero deductible glass insurance... change companies if you have to.

Subject: Stock Rim for TJ

Hi All:

I managed to mangle a stock rim pretty bad on the
Chivo Falls trip 2 weeks ago coming back up Three
Feathers.

I have a '00 TJ SE. I need atleast one rim, it's the
one that comes with the SE. I bent the rim the spare
is on about a year ago, so now I have one bent rim on
the Jeep and the spare is on the other. Thought maybe
someone had one lying around.

Please e-mail me off the list, thanks!

Bobberman
